Boring turns; catnip for Builders. I concentrated on improving finance / infrastructure. Our military increased by approx. one and half Cho-Ko-Nus.

-------------------------------

Right, pre-flight check and... WHOA! Somebody has left little labels all over the landscape! "City", "Chop", "Fog", "Go Shopping", "Brush Teeth". Spooky! :crazyeye: Better not move them, I guess. GreyFox can deal with them. :mischief:

Okay, so we have a worker in production. That's fine as our cities need improving. We also have two settlers on the way. Not much use for them at the moment as our finances can't handle the additional upkeep. I send them to their assigned spots and put them to sleep. They can be woken when conditions are better.

What next? Convert to Christianity? I should cocoa! Wastes a turn, of course, but improves relations with Mansa and Alex to "Pleased". FDR is a tougher nut to crack, but that is in hand, too.

Just Press Turn and.... "The Egyptian civilization has been destroyed!"

In other news, a Library is whipped at Neo-Beijing (ready for a Granary to be chopped over the following turns), and a market at Euclid.

In 1220 AD Mansa builds the Islamic shrine. Not much else happens for a while, but I decide to trade Rice to FDR for 5gpt to improve relations (and fund our research). Let's see how long it takes for Alex to complain.

Alex eventually drops by in 1270 AD, but only to ask for OB. The galley is still off our eastern coast so I tell him where to stick it. He's back again a couple of turns later, this time to invite us to declare war on FDR. After making a show of considering it I regretfully decline. He is disappointed to the tune of -1, but remains Pleased nevertheless.

We finally get another beaver hooked up in 1290 AD, so I trade the extra fur to Mansa for 4gpt.

So, by the end of the turnset Alex has adopted Vassalage and Serfdom, we have another GS due in 3 turns at Ptah, all the fog has been busted removing any threat of barbies. We are running at 60% science 'cos we don't need to go any higher to get Education in 2. More courthouses built. A Christian Miss is nearly ready to send to NB. We still haven't opened borders with anyone. I'm not sure whether that is a mistake or not (trading?), but I dare say GreyFox will let me know.

JesusOnEez -- On Holiday! Back in time to play next? Missing all the fun!

Egyptians must've been the weakest Unknown Civ in the list I posted during my turn. Hrm, I'm realllllly concerned with how strong the other part of the world might be. Shades of CTIV-5?

No paper to present today ... absolutely no material.

First off, removed all signs. Thanks for the suggestions of where to chop, but I am sure people knew how to chop.

Secondly, why is the worker chopping off a tree in Gunagzhou????

ctiv9-AD1300-forest-chop.jpg

It is needed to counter the jungles, and there are jungles to chop! I vetoe dthe chop.

Thirdly, why are settlers put to sleep? They are not produced to sleep. As a result, two new cities were founded.

ctiv9-AD1370-shenzhen.jpg

I settled where the signs are ... and the signed are promptly removed.

There is a city renamed. I decided Guangzhou should be the one renamed.

WHy? firstly, the +4 culture will be good to keep Mansa's and FDR's cultural pressure at bay. Secondlt, Guanzhou has mor etiles that can be converted to cottages.

I have also decided to open borders with MM. Firstly, he has an islam sholy city. More religion is not a bad thing. Secondly, we are most probably going for diplo, (space is a distant possibility), so we might as well start boosting relationships.

ctiv-AD1390-MM-OB.jpg

I have set us on pursuit for Liberalism, we are getting it in 4 turns. Note that if the free tech we want is Astronomy (highest beaker count), we should first trade Education to FDR to learn us Optics (pre-requisite for Astronomy).

ctiv-AD1400-rosy-trade.jpg

NB: This trade is not performed, just testing what FDR will give us.

Nice work removing all my helpful (useless?) signs. Also, what is a sholy city?

I may play tonight.

Hey gang, I'm going to play, but I think I'm going to take the full 72. I could squeeze it in tonight, but I don't think this is a good point to rush things. Should have an update in another 24.

Turn 0 -- 1400 AD

The situation at hand:

Variant Rule Fulfillment is at 50%

Civics: We will be going Free Speech with Liberalism. Free Religion isn't necessary yet.

Techwise, we're staying pretty close. I do make the trade of Education to FDR for Optics, Civil Service, 10 Gold and his WM. I decide not to wait because I don't want him to get it from Mansa (or meeting the other 2 Civs)

FDR's map reveals that HC is one of the opponents across the water.

I rush the Christian Missionary in Socrates order to build a Caravel next and send it Westward (it looks like FDR's Caravel ran into ice...actually, it looks like FDR hasn't built a Caravel yet and all we're seeing is Mansa's journey)

I switch Ptah to a Mace build.

Everything else looks good, I press ENTER

Turn 1 -- 1410 AD

Gibbon gives us the Culture list. We're 3rd. Mansa is first, followed by an unknown Civ (HC?). Then FDR, another unknown, and Alex.

Christian Missionary heads to Shenzen.

Spread Christianity to Wuhan.

I run Science up to 100% to shave a turn off of Liberalism.

Turn 2 -- 1420 AD

FDR asks for Open Borders, I think it's time for us to do so.

Euclid: Forge > University
Wuhan: Granary > Library

:wallbash: Mansa beats us to Liberalism by 1 turn [pissed]

Turn 3 -- 1430 AD

Liberalism comes in. I start Printing Press.

Ptah: Maceman > Christian Missionary (sending on Caravel)

Mansa must've chosen Economics as his Free Tech because he adopts Free Market.

Christianity is spread to Shenzen.

I revolt to Free Speech. I consider Caste System for a little bit, but decide against it.

Turn 4 -- 1440 AD

Mansa starts a Golden Age.

Free Speech is in.

I trade Liberalism to FDR for Guilds, WM, and 10 gold. The WM shows us more of HC's land.

I hurry the Caravel in Socrates. I think we might be able to get the circumnav bonus.

Turn 5 -- 1450 AD

Socrates: Caravel > University (yes, I'm leaving the Christian Missionary behind)
Zu Chongzhi: Chokonu > Taoist Monastery

Turn 6 -- 1460 AD

Ptah: Christian Missionary > Knight
Nanjing: University > Barracks

:coffee:

Turn 7 -- 1470 AD

We meet Napoleon. He has 9 cities, and is behind in tech. He's annoyed with us...you could say he's short-tempered.

Turn 8 -- 1480 AD

Mansa wants to trade Incense for Copper. I decline.

:coffee:

Turn 9 -- 1490 AD

Zu Chongzhi: Taoist Monastery > Christian Monastery
Nanjing: Barracks > Catapult (for MP duty)
Euclid: University > Harbor
New Beijing: Forge > University

Turn 10 -- 1500 AD

Ptah: Knight > Grocer

Hrm, not all that much happened. Nanjing should build a workboat next in order to grab the whale. The Caravel is racing West, don't know if it'll make it in time ...

Lurker's Comment: lol you named the workers as Borg drones?

Ruff_Hi has some bizarre automatic naming mod ... I assure you, it's just him. :scan:

;)

And it is not just the workers. All units get borg names. The only problem was that I couldn't add the "tertiary adjuct to ..." part due to the name running off the screen.
