Vietcong is autistic, look at the signature.

I also hope for flavor units.

dispite me being autistic the govenment dosent think i need disability any more.. allso took away my insurance!!!!!! no if im in an acedent im in debt

are u sure? i never typed good.. i alwlays have had a problem spelling and stuff like that.. but in other areas im beater then most adults and kids my age, like history, poltics, economics and things like that. im horible at math, i cant even do basic divison or multiplacation, my 10 year old sister, who failed one year in school dose beater then what i do * and i have never failed becus the class im bad in are modified for me*.. i fill so ashamed..

it realy dose suck some times, maby not just knowing ur bad at math, but just being difrent.. some times i realy fill alienated from every one eals and alone..

any way, did any one notice a lil difrench in some units?? unless ther going to have difrent archer types, or one of the archers is a uu

To be different means to be outstanding!!
To be disabled means to be differently abled.
You don't have to be categorised as one of us commoners. :goodjob:

Your suggestions about flavoured units - umm.... well, it does make a lot of difference. The game becomes more correct (historically) and obviously more fun.

Strange, a year or two ago Vietcong was typing as intelligently as any of us here.

I've always remembered Vietcong typing like that

If the latest preview is right stating the units will even respond in "their" language, it should be, that flavoured units are a must have. Just imagine: A "european" Longbow with Robin Hood-hood ;) guarding the chinese forbidden palace, Saying: "Hay, toranaga sama" Pathetic...

I certainly hope different cultures maintain different building styles, and hopefully get different unit styles as well. Err.. a disability with spelling alone is dyslexia, not autism (I know because a friend has it).

I wonder if he didn't mean DYSLEXIC...AUTISM is a very serious neurological condition and has nothing to do with misspelling whereas dyslexia is a condition in which the person affected has trouble in reading and associating a specific sound with the proper silable...

Please correct me if I'm wrong...

Stilgar, you make a very good point.

I like the investment in the audio though because it will be difficult to mod, whereas unit skinning and modelling should enable us to add flavour units. Though we really shouldn't have to.

I'm no psychiatrist, but that doesn't sound like something an autistic person would type. I'm guessing there's an error in translation; as someone else suggested, perhaps dyslexia is what he means.

You're right, so you probably shoudn't be making unsolicited medical diagnoses based solely on someone's spelling.

Anyway, this topic is about cultural differences in unit and city appearnces. I hadn't noticed the differences that Vietcong pointed out. So it looks like there will be at least some graphical variation across the civs. While that's nice, I always thought that the hardcoded differences between civs were kind of weird in a game that's about rewriting history. Why should the English longbowmen look historically accurate if England is a theocratic empire sprawling across desert and plains in my game? I'd imagine that architecture and clothing style depend more on the local environment and culture than the name of your civ.

Oh well, I guess in the end, the more graphical variation, the better.

Thread hijack! For the love of God....

Anyway, I think the distinct city appearance from Civ II was nice, and I hope that (along with ethnic variations) make an appearance in Civ IV. I would hope, however, that the cities retain the outward appearance of the "old nation" for the rest of the game, even if conquered -- it would give a sense of history to your empire.

Or maybe their appereance should be decided by what culture most of the people living there are. So if you conquer a Roman city, it'll keep it's Mediterrarean look until most of the populace has adopted your culture. Of course, then cities shouldn't lose 99% of their population after few turns of artillery fire.
