next model, #40 :) was a request from Thomas SG

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culverin

based on this pic: http://www.intermundus.de/site2.0/wehrundwaffen/img-wehrundwaffen/bums5.jpg

models has 1077 vertices, 764 triangles, a 256 skin, 64 gloss, only fx version

cannonier is the musketman from Firaxis

(used bone transplant, was my first try, so glad that it looks almost ok, despite a different armature structure, still not able to get a in Blender rigged model working :( )

complete unit: 1700 vertices, 1464 triangels, (standard cannon 1190 vertices, 1168 triangles)

link to the included changed(!) standard cannon animation

unit scale for picture, same as cannon

texture, especially the wood structure could be better, but atm i have no idea how to do (and also wanted to release the unit to go on)

This is a nice catapult replacement for when the renaissance comes around. :goodjob:

Nice unit Coyote, it really looks good. An early cannon maybe, or a free cannon for who researches a certain tech :dunno:.
That's probably not a bad idea... make it a Str-10 Cannon that is a "gift" unit to the first Civ to discover Gunpowder... otherwise it's unbuildable (-1 cost)

at last someone realise the problem we face with artillery units. We have NONE.
thank you my friend for creating this unit.is something we surely miss, and i will use it immediately.
this opens the horizon for filling the gap betwwen the cannon till the artillery.i mean that we need badly a ww1 gun.
this culverin,is the cannon that should exist.
once again,great work.!

No, it doesn't fill the gap between Cannon and Artillery... Actually the Culverin fills the gap between the invention of gunpowder and... well... just about everything else. The Culverin is the FIRST gunpowder-based unit... it even predates muskets and was made obsolete by cannons.

Awesome unit coyote! It would be nice if trebuchets would look like this once you researched gunpowder and entered the renaissance.

Wolfy sorry but you didnt understand me i suppose.
when i m saying that fills the gap,i meant that the gap can be filled by a ww1 gun.and the "horizon"i ment before is that someone at last, spend some time to create something different ,an artillery unit.so it might be possible since he made the first step to create the ww1 gun, filling the gap.

We could use more artillery units, but you are posting in the thread about the culverin, one of the earliest gunpowder units of all, and you're talking about filling gaps after the cannon, so maybe I'm not sure what you're talking about, I'm just clarifying what the culverin is historically... it pre-dates the cannon, not post-dates it... but yes, we need more artillery type units... model makers tend to find cannons a bit "dull" to make I suppose.

Thanks :)

(more or less one problem with cannons is, like asioasioasio said there are not a lot blueprints, for example the reference pic in the thread was one of two references used [the second was a small black white picture/drawing from the back] and also cannons have a small fanbase - eg i must like a model to make it - but nevertheless - without guarantee - after a cannon timeframe american civill war there will be a WWI cannon - would be #5to #10 on my list - so with my current speed and freetime - perhaps September )

Really nice unit !

If you don't mind I'll reskin it quickly to make a better wood texture and a bit different cannonier than the musketman.

Thanks and i would really appreciate it if you could make a reskin

Basically, a bombard.
All we need now is for people to start attaching ethnic musketmen to it so that we have different ethnic artstyles.

This is a great unit graphic for a much needed unit. I've done this:

Culverin
8/1
+25% City Attack
Requires Gunpowder - Iron or Copper
Cost: 90
The various Collateral damage values are the same as for Catapult.
Defends as Cannon vs Cavalry, etc...
-10% bombard

Now, all I need is another cannon graphic to use as Sweden's UU...

I just came across a thread by Yxklyx regarding a button for this unit. I found one in a button bundle mod that works quite well so I figure I'd upload it here so other people can use it. I've been using this unit in my game and it works seamlessly. It provides a nice bridge between Catapults/Trebuchets and Cannons.

Hmm, it seems I can't upload an attachment to more than one thread at a time, so here's the link for it:
