I'm surprised our Scandinavian friends didn't get that one, especially with three clues. Your question...

Well, the Inca are not my area of specialty, so I don't want to say your answer is wrong. But according to my sources, they called their empire the "Land of the Four Quarters", because there were four administrative regions. The Quechua word was "Tahuantinsuyu".

Well actually I'm quite sure of my answer but yours apearsto be right also.

I think that was Labrador, but I think the year was 1927.

Question: Which famous son of Delft is thought by some to have used the "Camera Obscura" in his work?

It depends on your native language Athos!
Put both into Google and you get the following...
"camera oscura": 3530 hits (in languages like Italian)
"camera obscura:" 22300 hits (in English)
...so I'll go with the majority!

OK I'll give you some clues:
* Lived in 17th Century
* Married with 11 children
* Painter
* Less than 40 surviving works

lived in the 17th century, 35 surviving works.

Oh it took me an awful lot of time to find it.

Am I right?

Well atually I must be because I also found that it is said that he might have used some sort of optical device to help him create his paintings, possibly a device called a Camera obscura, the forerunner of the modern camera. Literally 'darkened room' a Camera obscura is a box which has a lens at the front. A portable Camera obscura can have a ground glass screen onto which the image from the lens is thrown. Or a Camera obscura can be big enough for the observer to be inside it.

Yes you're right!

It was Vermeer. Seeing his paintings "live", so to speak, is an awesome experience. Definitely one of my favorite painters. I'm surprised one of our Dutch friends like Willem didn't get this one.

Your question...

Ah, I see a history quiz broke out in my absense, but there is no active question! So, I shall provide one, of a Napoleonic flavor. Name the only man to be present at both Trafalgar in 1805, and Waterloo in 1815. This a difficult question, for the man is not very famous, but for a student of the period is should be answerable.

I believe this was someone by the name of Miguel de Alva.

I hand my question over to Az since he didn't get chance to set one.

AZ - YOUR QUESTION PLEASE!

Charles DeGaulle's Government in exile, which included French holdings in the Western hemisphere, as well as some colonies in Africa. The combat arm was made up from men that escaped with the BEF from Dunkirk, and was augmented by forces in North Africa after the allied torch landings. LeClerc was the major field commander of these forces. I guess that puts me in the position for the next question. Name the two Generals that served as Ghenghis Khan's cheif warlords, and planned and led his most successful campaigns. I'm looking for the military officers, not his civilian advisors.

Sorry Az, but no, those are not the fellows I have in mind. The Great Khan relied on these two men that he knew from his tribal days, when he was only Temunjin. They planned the destruction of the Song in China, and led the forces that crushed the Korizem Empire (modern day Persia). But that's all the hints for now...
