Cumulative PM-based History Quiz III

shortguy overtakes Plotinus with the score of 17 p, providing the complete solution to # 9 in the process.

We have a new leader, philippe strikes hard with 34 p, and additionally he mixed things up a bit regarding #8, so he might improve this score considerably.
I will now leave this place for the evening, but I return very early tomorrow, so just keep them coming!

Last update:
philippe 44 p
sydhe 38 p
Atticus 20 p
shortguy 17 p
Plotinus 15 p
dutchfire 12 p

And just to clarify, # 14 is not for making tea. I know such a similar item exist, I even have one of those myself, but the original purpose of this one was a different one.

As the interest has dropped beyond zero, I will most probably close it on Friday.
I am sorry to say this, but it does not exactly speak to the advantage of this community that absolutely nobody has provided any feedback on the thread regarding its merit or lack thereof. It surely is a good way to discourage the making of any future quizzes.

I believe external factors are in play here, this quiz has been so dormant for such a long time thanks to our "punctual" Gargantua, and alas, i didn't gave any feedback yet, it was an interesting quiz, not much really to add or take away. i suggest that the participants of the earlier rounds should receive a PM to inform them about the new round and invite them to participate. if enough replies are being made we can extend the deadline. :)

What do you think Luceafarul?

I would only make 3-4 points so i guess i'm out.

In that case people should be extra motivated, I (obviously wrongly) suppose.
and alas, i didn't gave any feedback yet, it was an interesting quiz, not much really to add or take away.
Well, you submitted, which is even better.:)
However feedback on the thread is relevant.
First and foremost because it gives you an idea on what you can do better next time regarding choice of topics and degree of difficulty.
But it is also a question of courtesy. Perhaps I am, as suggested by some little Fauntleroy recently, and old man, and out of touch with today's coolness, but it is not to much to demand that one gets some appreciation for one's efforts. I mean, it is not like I have written the goddamn Divine Comedy, but those quizzes do not drop from the sky either.

Well, I have mixed feelings about this. It might very well get a few more to submit, but in principle I don't want to chew other people's food for them, it is not too much to demand that people who are interested in such things check out the relevant thread at least once a week.

What do you think Luceafarul?
See above.
And completely unrelated, how much did you pay to be allowed to have a signature in non-English?

I would only make 3-4 points so i guess i'm out.
Nope. We are adherents to the gentleman principle, participation is the most important.
And BTW, sorry for not being able to participate in your religious one, but this spring has been tough.

Please submit, or else I'll end last :)
Just try to get some of the right-wing toffs at OT to submit. Some of them are quite capable to achieve a negative score...

I understand what you mean, we are in fault here.

I'll invite some poeple in your place then, I'll rile up fiftychat to do your quiz. :D

See above.

that is why size 1 is for. ;)

yes, look at Plotinus, i honestly never expected to see him in the lower tier ranks but it's very cool to see him participating :D

:rotfl: "if the facts doesn't fit your views, change the facts  "

So I suppose untill any new participations come in, i have to make the quiz :scared:

Oh, just 7 points. Better improve that.

As for the quiz, I think it had a good mixture of questions. Although it was a bit hard, at least for me. ;)

Oh God... these questions! After first reading, I don't think I can get a single point :( ... at least w/o googling, which we're not supposed to do here, IIRC..

But please don't feel unappreciated luc - as I said a while ago on this thread, I'm mostly interested in the answers to your questions - they broaden my knowledge considerably :-)) ... in this case, everything will be new to me :D

I'll look again when I have a bit more time - maybe I can get a point or two... submitting for 0 points would be too embarassing!

Perhaps it would be better to give more hints in the long questions, like for example 6. Because if you don't know the answer to the first part of the question (the painting), getting the follow-up right would be terribly hard.

Then again, maybe I just don't know enough.

Oh, just 7 points. Better improve that.
Which is exactly what you did.

As for the quiz, I think it had a good mixture of questions. Although it was a bit hard, at least for me. ;)
Well, one person's food is another's poison. The level of difficulty is very hard to get right. It shouldn't be too trivial, but neither should it be some esoteric ego-trip by the quizmaster. I tried to include a couple rather easy this time, together with some trick questions.

Oh God... these questions! After first reading, I don't think I can get a single point :( ... at least w/o googling, which we're not supposed to do here, IIRC..
Correct. We tried out the format where you where allowed to research after your heart's content, but that one just faded out, which is understandable.

ase don't feel unappreciated luc - as I said a while ago on this thread, I'm mostly interested in the answers to your questions - they broaden my knowledge considerably :-)) ... in this case, everything will be new to me :D
Thanks. The point is, that considering my current condition, I only do things here if it is in anybody's interest. Which is why I don't write much articles here, the few times I tried the response was underwhelming.
I will try to do a quite comprehensive write-up on the answers.

ook again when I have a bit more time - maybe I can get a point or two... submitting for 0 points would be too embarassing!
Oh, I think you can answer a coupe of these.

Perhaps it would be better to give more hints in the long questions, like for example 6. Because if you don't know the answer to the first part of the question (the painting), getting the follow-up right would be terribly hard.
The problem is again that for some it is not so difficult, so exactly what hints to give where might be a bit unfair.
But just to clarify a couple of things. The first image in # 6 is just a normal piece of gauze, nothing special about that one. The question is one of association.
As for the occupations, trapper has nothing to do with the Northern American one, and a couple of those occupations were not exclusively for minors.
Also, when answering the question of the Swedish battles, the outcome of each battle should be the part of the answer.
And again, a couple of the questions are quite tricky, after all it should be an intellectual challenge, shouldn't it?:mischief:
Then again, maybe I just don't know enough.
Nobody really do, my friend.

:goodjob:
Dont worry about it.
Actually I do, A promise is a promise, and besides not having the necessary energy to that sort of thing is quite troublesome.
As it seems like my wake-up call had some effect, the deadline of 5th July stays.
I got a couple of new participants, while a couple also improved their score. So the scoreboard is now:

Steph 73 p
philippe 44 p
sydhe 42 p
Atticus 20 p
shortguy 17 p
olav, Plotinus 15 p
dutchfire 14 p
Catharsis, Heretic_Cata 10 p
obliterate 7 p
Otkell 6 p

Wow, i didn't epic fail. Random guessing is fun. :D

I'll try to send some more later on.

1 more point to overtake the moderator...
