I'm not sure to be on line this evening and tomorrow...
So, only a pair of hours before the term I gave (I apologize), here are the 'solutions':
1) Who changed side (the one,I think

) from C.I.Caesar to Cn.Pompeius, at the start of the civil war in 49 BC?
- Titus Labienus, former Caesar's legatus propraetor (vice-commander) in Gallia.
2) Which treaty gave the land called (after that) 'Normandy' to Normans ?
- Saint-Claire-sur-Epte, 911 AD.
3) Who received German emperor Heinrich IV at Canossa?
- Pope (yes...) Gregorius VII... Hey, guys, I hoped more precision... look at my profile's phrase
4) Who did Richard "Coeurdelion" (Lionhearted) defeat to catch Cyprus, and who received the island by him just after the conquest?
- Richard I defeated Byzantines (a kind of 'secessionist' emperor, not the same of Costantinopolis), and gave the island to Templars. Later, they gave Cyprus to Lusignan, cause they wasn't able to control it.
5) When Emperor Charles V gave Malta to Hospitaliers, which symbolic tribute did he request?
- A falcon every year (Malta was quite famous for its hunting-falcons).
Curiosity: the first year, Hospitaliers send (very gratefully) a GOLDEN falcon to Charles V. Not sure, but IIRC, the ship on which the gift was embarked sunk...
6) Who was the Polish patriot that 'gave' his name to a mountain? (Bonus: where's the mountain?)
- I meaned Tadeusz Kosciuszko, who gave name to Mount Kosciuszko in Australia.
But I accepted (I could have been more precise in asking) Kazimierz Pulaski (who fight in American revolution, too) who gave name to Mount Pulaski, Illinois. He was a Poland patriot, too

(N.B.:This point didn't modify the chart positions)
7) Who was the brave Napoleon's general that died at Marengo after giving a decisive help for victory?
- Desaix
8) How were called German volontary troops who helped Finns against Comunists after wwI ?
- Freikorp. (I know, this name was used for other formations, too; it's generic. I'll be more precise next time

)
9) What was operation "Torch" ?
- Allies invasion of North-West Africa in late 1942, ww2.
10) Who commanded the British battalion who defended bravely the bridge "too far" at Arnhem?
- Col. John Frost, 2°battalion, 1th division. Give a read to "A bridge too far" (or watch the movie: great action, great cast) ! Really worth!
PrivateHudson, you again !!!
