Not sure about the marking system here... Surely some correct answers are better than none. You're saying it would have been better to send in nothing??

Well... some points could seem strange... (1,6 , 0,8  ... where's the 3,14??? ) but I think that every quizzmaker could be a right judge in giving points, cause he knows very well what he want that others answer... And decimals can be part of this system. (In this case, maybe Steph gave decimals in relation of dead-Marshals and military-Orders, how many of them have been posted by everyone of us... IMHO). I try to answer to all 10,and if I dunno, sometimes I give crazy answers...
These 10 were difficult, but sometimes there are question more difficult than others... and difficulty is quite subjective: we all have so different knowledges... So, today you gain 1, tomorrow 7... :)
However now I'm so in peace... I'm not the 'quizz-bad-monster' anymore...
I propose a motion to forbid Gagliaudo to ask any more quizz. Anybody second that motion ?
;-)

In a word: Steeeeeeeeeeph!!! :aargh: The solutions !!!!!!!!!

I apologize (I posted twice...)

A few words about my scoring system.
Every question is worth 1 point if answered correctly. If the answer is not accurate, but close enough, I give part of the point (for instance for the question about relative casualties).
Now, for question with several answers, like the Marshal or the order, I've done this: a correct right orders give 0.2 point (as I asked for 3), but I count only once an order given twice with two different answers. For the marshal, giving a marshal who died in battle give a part of the point, but giving one who didn't gives negative points, for this question. So someone who listed all the marshals, thinking the one who died are in will actually get 0 to the question.
Anyway, I'll give the answers this evening

You asked it, you got it. Here is the solution

1. Called the "Solomon of the century" because of his wisdom, he was a powerfull ruler who retired to become a monk, before being elected anti pope, and resigned 9 years later to quell the old dispute with Rome. What are his names and country of origin?

Amédée VIII, Duke of Savoy, Pope Felix V.
Gagliaudo was the only one to find it. Although he said he was half French , half Italian :shakehead

2. After the defeat of Japan in 1945, the Americans banned all martial arts. What was the first to be authorized again, and why?

Aikido, because it’s the most pacifist one. North King got it.

3. What did Richelieu used as a model when he created “l’académie Française”?

“L’académie florimontane”, created in Savoy in 1607. :D No one found it. You should read the only history article I wrote...

4. What are Napoleon’s Marshals who were killed during a battle (including death because of the wounds received during the battle).

Bessières, Lannes, Poniatowski. Ney and Muret were executed, and Brune was killed during a riot, so they do not count as it was not in battle.

5. What is the percentage of French casualties during the Indochina war, relatively to American casualties during the Vietnam war ?

87000 French to 58000 Americans, this means 150%. One answer x2 and got half a point.

6. Why is the highest speed limit 110 km/h in Brittany, when is it 130 km/h in the rest of France? (Yes, this is really an history question).

Because when Brittany joined France through a marriage, a condition was that Brittany will not have taxes on the roads, and thus there is no motorway in Brittany (although they are 2x2, they are considered "normal" roads). No one answered correctly.

7. How many famillies have seated on the Imperial throne of Japan?

Only one. Although the emperor seldom had any real power and was often a pupet, there have been no dynastic change in Japan

8. Give the name of 5 religious military orders of the middle ages.

Knight templars, Hospitaliers or St John, or Knights of Malta), Teutonic Knights, Santiago (or Saint Jacques of th Sword), Porte-Glaive, Alcantara, Calatrava, Brother of th Sword (in French "Porte-Glaive"). When someone gave the same order with different names (such as Hospitaliers and St John), I counted only one.

9. What is the main reason why catharism was considered an heresy?
No one really got it, although some gave a start of answer. Cathars believed in manicheism. The spiritual world was from God, and the material world from the Devil. Thus, they denied Jesus was flesh, and said he was only spirit (or he would have touched by the Devil). The heresy was they denied Jesus was God made man.

10. What was the first engineer school created in France? And when?
"Ponts & Chaussées", (bridges and roads). Created in 1747 by the king, and reorganized in 1804 by Napoleon. The corps of engineers was created in 1716, but the school was created 31 years later.
Polytechnique (created in 1795 by Napoelon) was a trap...

Hurry is really a bad inspirer...
Yes... :mischief: ..but... the other six errors ???
They're all mine!!! ;)

Anyway here goes, since it's close enough now :)

1) Why did Queen Victoria refuse to put her name to legislation banning Lesbian relationships, despite signing similar legislation banning male homosexuality?

Interesting answers for this question, ranging from "She was one" to "Her daughter/Friend was one" and so on. The answer though was that she refused to believe that a woman would ever do such a thing!

2) What name did Hitler plan to give to Berlin after the war ended?

Germania

3) What is said to have happened on the spot at the Waterloo battlefield where a large mound is surmounted by a Lion? (Bonus for anyone who can say which way it points and why)

The lion is placed on the spot where the Prince of Orange fell wounded on the field of battle. It points towards France, it's said to watch for the return of Napoleon.

4) Which country was officially joined to England by the act of Union in 1536?

Wales

5) Which Queen of England during the Tudor period reigned for just 9 days and is not normally recognised in most "official" lists?

Lady Jane Grey

6) What was the only Japanese battleship to have been sunk solely by submarines during WWII?

Kongo, note the question was not torpedoes, but submarines, so the answer Yamato was incorrect

7) Which US cruiser was famous for delivering the atomic bomb to Tinian during WWII?

Indianapolis

8) Name two of the three provinces that the emperor Claudius added during his reign.

Any two of, Britania, Mauretania, Thrace

9) Why did Elizabeth I put Walter Raleigh in the tower during her reign?

He married one of her ladies in waiting and annoyed her no end, she got jealous

10) Who (ie general) did Davout soundly thrash at the battle of Auerstadt in 1806?

The Duke of Brunswick. Note that pawpaw answered "prussia" before I added the remark about General, but since the question was ambiguous I gave it to him anyway :)

Pawpaw (again) to go ;)
