I just realized that our (United States') currency is really really boring. Take for example North Korea's. How come their's has so much more color to it?

I'm pretty sure I read something about how the currency must remain recognizable to keep the economy stable.

Yes, US currency is known worldwide as the most boring, and confusing because all bills are the same size, same color, and same basic design.

I don't really mind, but I suppose a blind person might have troubles since they are all the same size. We are taking baby steps with the facelifted presidents and the new twenty dollar bill.

Part of the reason is that pretty currency has a tendency to be hoarded as art.

I really think that we should have color-coded money. I hate having to uncrumble it to find out what bill it is.

Not only that, but our bills are also huge. I didn't realize that until I returned to the U.S. after my first trip abroad. I had been travelling through several countries in Europe. (This was back in the late '90s, when each country still had its own currency.) We had all gotten accustomed to using small, colorful banknotes. So there was a little, shall we say, monetary culture shock when we came back to America and returned to using our enormous green banknotes.

I, for one, like that all our bills are the same size, because it makes it easier to fold them all up together into a bundle. (I keep the larger denominations on the inside, so a casual glance at the outside makes it look like it's just a bundle of ones.) But they don't need to be quite as large as they are, and a little more color would be nice. The new twenty is a step in the right direction, though I note with distaste that Jackson is still on it.

Blind people have a pocket for each bill, I think, and they just rely on the kindness of the person giving them the change.

That DPRK bill has way too much. I wouldn't want American bills to have a bunch of soldiers gazing at awe over a diagram of an atom (which is rather curious in itself). I know it's usually easier for all of you...but I rather liked the bills before the 1996 changes.

Besides, at first glance, I thought Euro bills were Monopoly money.

I couldn't agree more. I would rather have Bush on there than Jackson, Bush is a puppy dog in comparison.

I don't even like what they did to the twentys and hundreds...and later the 5s, 10s, 50s...by making the picture larger and whatever else they did on it back in the '90s.

I just don't see how much easier life can get with different colors...you still need to look at it to figure out what it is anyway, how hard is it to find a number?

Canadian money is better than your crazy American currency. Nice and colourful. Our $5 even has hockey on it!

They look like either watercolors or pastels.

At least it's nice and dark, not bright and fluffy like so many others.

That is a peacekeeper with the binoculars and the family is viewing something, not quite sure what it is.
