Current (SVN) development discussion thread

It's even worse when a hurricane hits and destroys a building you need for a wonder that you would of completed in a couple turns. Then someone beats you to it.

The worst for me is when you need to get a certain number of luxury resources connected, and a disaster destroys them a turn before you need them. I need world builder then, and hate it. There is no possible way to prevent this. (RFCA is bad for this)

The neat thing about this is, some materials we generally attribute to being only used in the modern age, have actually been used for a very long time, but in much different ways. Another example would be oil (petroleum) which has been used for as long as civilization has existed in a variety of ways. Even aluminum has had its use since ancient times--it was used as an astringent and in dyes back then.

Also I was just playing a game as the Congo, and a powerful hurricane hit my capital after 1 turn, destroying almost all of the starting buildings! XD

In northern Alberta (Athabaska oil sands) the native Crees used to use the oil that seeped to the surface to waterproof canoes.

I suppose you mean bauxite?

And even worse when that city is a temperate city that is 2 tiles down a straight (Novgorod) that a "strong hurricane" would never hit.

Let's re-rail this thread. We should discuss 'bout SVN rather than Chemistry here

I just had Kongo game.
It's practically one of my favorite civilization now. It brings up exotic & fresh flavor to DoC that IMO, is pretty rare lately. Neither Moors, Poland or Tamil brings this flavor to me :) -and their art is awesome -

I did not complete the game yet because of the WB Crash bug yet, but here's my thought so far :

1. I was about to point out that Mbuji-Mayi and Kindu is a different city until I check the CNM and they are separated entry .
In the game, the city name is Mbuji-MayiKindu :hmm:
2. Perhaps the Impi attack should be reduced...?
3. 1 more Settler and 2 more Workers at start shouldn't really hurt the stability, IMO.

On the another half of the world :

1. What is the ratio AI Moors will declare war against AI Mali? They ended up friendly in my game because of Islam.
2. Islam in Mombasa & Quelimane.
3. Portugal should spawn with 1 less settler, since, iirc, the settler was given by Rhye so they settle the Casablanca/Morocco, that they always settle Ponta Delgada?
4. Arguim should not be settle-able IMO

I actually like it when they settle Ponta Delgada, that way they have a chance at taking back Lisbon and not just die, not to mention Ponta Delgada is core, and it saved me from becoming a "Government in Exile" in this one game I did

2. Islam in Mombasa & Quelimane.

I thought Arabian traders went as far south as those two cities in real life too.

I never settled there so I didn't know if that's a good city or not :(
Isn't whatever the condition, if Lisbon does not belong to Portugal, it will be Goverment in Exile?

I mean the pre-placed cities should have Islam with them as there's sultanate IRL ;)
By the way, I think it's better if they are independents, not native.

No, Portugal needs to be pushed out of its core.

I fixed the Mbuji-Mayi/Kindu thing.

Natives are better for the Europeans.

So far, I only played 10 minutes of Kongo, the turn I spawned, the Portuguese dropped off their settler on the location where Mbanza Kongo is, thankfully, I got to settle there, pushing them out toward the south where they settled (2S of M-K on the plain by the fish and the Kalahari desert. The city was Coimbra (default name) and was immediately conquered by the natives, I only kept it due to the fact that Catholicism was present in the city.

Fun fun, but the impi attacks are relentless and the Congolese need to start with 2 settlers.

Then my game crashed and I don't know why :]

Not a problem. It is uncommon and uncommon things will happen. What game speed were you in?

Barbs and natives are to be reworked. I agree an extra settler would be nice, but not necessary with the current Historical Area, which ought to be fixed after the crashes. There only should be enough settlers to cover the core area.

If you have a save to contribute to the growing stack, it would be much appreciated in the Bug Report thread.

Huh, not sure I have the save any more, sorry. I was at normal speed though, at monarch (default) difficulty.

I don't think Congo should start with more than one settler. Settling and growing enough cities in time is basically the challenge behind the first goal (and spreading Catholicism of course).

What about them?

They are harassing Congo more than the Europeans at the moment. Maybe let Congo spawn at peace with the natives?
