civver_764. Good to see I finally badgered you into this :p

Daft, my avatar pic strongly approves of this NES. Emo cows -- We are sad, because you make us into hamburgers.

Form the nation of Kaerlan, uniting the clans, under the Rundri Galaen Keldara.

Encourage the nomads to settle down and form the city of Garetra, where the Rundri has set up a capital. Use economic incentives as well as increased means of gaining a powerful position in the new nation to entice the nomads to do so.

Spend 2e on the mountain fort of Kurdaegh.

Send scouts down to investigate the civilization in the Southern Lowlands of Mriz. Repel them from undertaking any venture into the lands of Kaerlan.

Vethmenari's Legions: The necessity of the warrior is one of the greatest points in Vetharili history. The first Houses came into the universe through the need to settle amongst each other for protection against those that would do harm against you. Strength in numbers, and among those numbers, trained and perfected fighting men and women. Although different Houses have always had their differing and preferred method of combat, since the dawn of human history, the Vetharil have favored infantry.

With the discovery of bronze-smelting several centuries ago, the Vetharili entered an entirely new era of warfare, entirely different from those before it, which focused nearly entirely around ambush, brush fighting, and archery. With the establishment of Vethmenari, the greatest smithies in all of Vetharoualk were put to work for the Highking, creating elaborate suits of armor, covered in runes and emblazoned with the image of a several pointed star, representing all the different Houses of the Vetharil, with an orb in the center, representing the whole of Vethmenari.

These soldiers came to be known as the legionaries, their creation allowed the formation of Vethmenari, and their endured use would allow it to remain, at least that was the hope and ambition of the Highking. Despite their highly-ordered society, and sense of right and wrong, the Vetharil are human, and force was sometimes needed.

These gold-armored warriors existed to provide that necessary force.

Sa'ad Danåb: BananaLee: ORDERS
Spoiler :

  • Spawn a new "Messianic Zealot" of some sort unit in the Karu Oasis. Their tactics are "stealing horses they can ride and killing the rest (so they haven't got chariots) and the Zealots can have something to eat and drinks when...." they be the nucleus of a slave rebellion based out in the salt mines.
  • Start a rebellion at the salt mines.
  • Have my naked blokes show the Hloga how much more awesome our pleasurable culture is. Convince the nomads and troops how much more awesome it is to join us and go north "beyond the great sandy desert" to a land of sheer awesome. Then have them march up north back to Karu with whatever Hloga wishes to join.

...and a Story(written by a mind that's wandering left right and centre)

Where am I...? The thoughts which began almost every other story known to mankind. Tomten Mäderchåd couldn't remember anything, but for the weirdest dream.. vision? ... that he had. A bearded old woman who gave him a sword. Another bearded woman thought him to use the sword to slay horse-like demons.

What could it possibly mean? He was in an infirmary. The infirmary of the Karu Salt Mines. The sterile saline smell of brine mixed with the hot desert air as it entered Tomten Mäderchåd's nose. Yes.. yes... He was a slave in the Karu Salt Mines. Underpaid, overworked, underfed and over here. His people were made for pleasure, not for bucketing out brine as it bubbled out of holes in the rock.

How did I get here? Surely the vision meant something. Surely the horse-demons were none other than the Tephites and their bloody chariot-pullers. And the bearded women a higher power. She must have become bearded because she didn't see pleasure go on in Sa'ad Danåb! Tomtem Mäderchåd knew what he had to do.

What do I do? Kill those horses.

--

And so it was that a new religion was born in Karu, that of the Tvåtinojanggut (Two Bearded Women). Their tenets seem to conveniently fit in with the hedonistic pleasure-seeking ideas of the Sa'ad Danåb, but they believe the beards of the Tvåtinojanggut grow as the collective pleasure of the Sa'ad Danåb decrease. Thus, it is important to get back to a situation where pleasure is to be had by one and all.

Using this rather twisted logic (and a strange hatred of "chariot-pullers"), the Tvåtinojanggut faithful have attempted a rebellion in Karu (under the leadership of the "Prophet" Tomten Mäderchåd) to oust the Tephites.

Assuming you're not a previous NESer (I'm looking at you, Wesley) doing the forum equivalent of sticking on a false mustache in order to escape a humiliating past, in which case we will find you, and we will destroy you.

If that's not the case, welcome to NESing! :D

I know Solanaar, he is not in any way related to Wesley. In fact, he is a good rl friend of mine, and I can account for his sanity. :)

Hooray :D

His computer is encountering problems at the moment, but I will give him a call and get him to make a post detailing where he's starting and what he's doing later today.

OK having now read everything up to date, I wish to say thanks for all these stories and things, and that people are actually participating in this, I am most humbled and grateful :)

Alrighty I believe I have enough orders to start on the next update, however I have to do SLYNES orders and stories for tommorrow, so there is probably about 48 hours from this post to get your orders in!

OOC: Do you want me to do orders for my first round, and if so how much 'e' do I start with?

@civver welcome! Cool stuff. You will appear in the next update, if that is OK.

OOC: Daft, the update says our civilization level went up but it's still at 1 in stats. Which is correct?

@Kraz you should've had that civ level so I fixed the stats, thx for pointing that out!

OOC: Is this story okay Daft? I wanted to give my "Great Person" a little background, as well as flesh out the Aquen a little bit.

@Ninja that is very okay, great story :)

I was just lookin' at this earlier, would it be alright if I were to join?

@Solanaar you are welcome, but I have to say this is not the simplest of NESes right now, so beware :)

If Solan hurries the :):):):) up, does his civilization have a chance of appearing in the most recent update?

I prefer to include new arrivals in the next update, that seems to be the convention in NESes.

In this case I can't really say what kind of 'e' a new faction will have to spend in advance, cos I dunno what kind of events or armies may be rampaging over the place where it is supposed to be starting, if that makes sense!

OOC: I'm dropping out, scince the mod can't tell the difference between "Each" and "East", and the resulting raids that happened/supposed to happen following, along with outright lying that I shouldn't kill the barabrians because "they were my friends".

Don't drop out deal with it and move on and daft might fix it in next update. If he doesn't then leave cause yah I agree daft screwed up badly and your in a bad situation. Though others are in worse be happy you have an army and some income take back what is yours. Also you could start over and ask daft to give you a new faction to control like those people that took your lands. Who knows there is a lot you can do.

You're being really lame right now, just fyi. You ordered your guys to raid an empty desert, you deserve whatever you get.

@Daft: My 1.5e for the slaves should be paid on delivery; if Banana's revolt succeeds, just bank it.

Well, if your people have strong ties with barbarians, such as through trade, traditions, religion, whatever, your warriors may be hesitant to follow your orders. Also, I've been in an NES where the mod constantly made directional mistakes (I'M LOOKING AT YOU JASON >: O ). It's no big deal, and if you ask nicely the mod may fix their mistakes.

Just because there was no standing barbarian army doesn't mean no one was living there at all. I could had raided the few inhabitants and then dominated them, expanding my empire. But Nooooooo, the mod screws up my orders and sends my army where there were MULTIPLE ARMIES. Would I seriously send /one/ army to Hurud and honestly expect to take it?

A'ight. Kinda doin' this as I go along, so bear with me. Or rabbit with me. Whichever.

Ethaliri: Migrating from lands unknown, branching off from a country ruled by a tyrant, the Ethalirii are a tall, dark skinned people, with generally long hair, always in varying degrees of black. Hailing from colder climes, where one must fight to survive, the Ethalirii are naturally strong, and are seemingly unable to become out of shape. They generally range from two to three hundred pounds, very little if any of it fat.

The typical city in Ethaliri is a low to the ground, but large great hall, moving outwards in a wheel-and-spoke pattern. Most have four main gates, some less (but never more), each guarded by two guard towers, with ballistae at each opening. Every town is headed by a Jarl, each province by a Luurk, and the country by a Blierk, determined by a combination of blood and combat prowess.

The Ethalirii are commonly warriors, and bowmen and crossbowmen are somewhat uncommon, but not quite unheard of. The common battle armor consists of thick furs, usually bear hide, with the animal's head aligned on each shoulder, and one so that the warriors head appears between its jaws. The claws are used as gloves, while below the waist, everything is orthodox fur and leather. The most commonly used weapon is a large, two handed hammer, with axes less common, and swords, due to the amount of metal they use, mostly restricted to higher ranking officers (generally the Blierk, Luurk, and their lieutenants).

You wanted to expand your empire into a veritably empty desert. =/

Leave, or don't leave, but no one really sympathizes.

Yeah. In history, orders get lost, or misinterpreted. Disasters happen against your will. You can choose to fight on, or give up. It's your call.

@Solanaar: You should read the first two updates so you kind of know what's going on, and pick an area to join. Technology is still pretty low at the moment, mostly bronze age.
