DaftNES 3: Alternate-World Fresh Start

The long, flowing ceremonial robes of the Highking's Ministry were uncomfortable and strictly ceremonial, and Mentarrin was glad that they would be kept that way. Wearing them in the cold of morning was tantamount to torture to the man, and his knees knocked together as he attempted to look dignified and wise, continuing his austere march through the halls of the spire.

The cold winter's sunshine cut through the few windows on the second floor of the building like a dagger, providing a not unwelcome warmth to the frozen corridors of the governmental facility. The Highking slept for the moment, and the time was ripe for movement. It would not do for the Ministry to be unprepared for the Highking's awakening. Mentarrin had been reminded of this, many times, by his elders.

Peering out of a slit in the wall, Mentarrin could see the town watch returning to their homes after the night-patrol, and fresher, less fatigued watchers arriving to begin the mornwatch. The affairs of the city and the nation were being carried out as was right and just, in casual fashion.

The banners that hung from the third story of the tall tower were covered in frost, but the sun began to melt them, its light and heat cutting through the layers of cold. They would run wet as water along the banners, cleaning them of the wind's produce, and falling to the ground. The sun would then dry the banners, and the process of winter would begin anew upon the symbol of the kingdom.

A horn sounded in the distance, and Mentarrin fancied that he could hear the sound of the bronze-shod end of a wooden pike-handle being hammered against the ground. Far to the north, the mountains rose in a fearful manner, their snow-covered peaks reaching out as if to pierce the sky. In their snowy, cold, unfeeling embrace, sat the Northrealms...

INFO: I will be starting on the update tommorrow, HOWEVER I will still accept orders at this point.

ooc: I suppose I can now get the benefit of their forts, aye?

AYE, I forgot to say, but not quite as good as having your own.

Organisation: 1 [I think this should be 2, if my Organization went UP like it says.]

Noted+Fixified!

OOC: I'm dropping out, scince the mod can't tell the difference between "Each" and "East", and the resulting raids that happened/supposed to happen following, along with outright lying that I shouldn't kill the barabrians because "they were my friends".

The player is always right. EDIT: self-censure, was being a little inflamatory with the rest.

:bump: TaylorFlame, I may send you a message regarding a borders treaty between the Kaerlan and Vethmenari.

I don't use smilies but bump. Also when can we expect the next update daft? Anyways does anyone think that we should be given some kind of hint on where all the cradles are like have a world map as part of the update after the one daft is working on now?

The last update took many hours over two days. This one will be the same, at least. I'm afraid I've have barely started it right now...

As for how the cradles fit together, I want to preserve the mystery for a little longer :)

BTW I already have a world map... I do all the work on one big, single map, with no blackness. Once its all set, I add the blackness and split it up into the three cradle maps. When/if the revealed areas have merged enough, I'll just have one big map to upload. I am a little conerned about the file sizes though... Seems to be tricky to get images over 500k to show reliably, either on photobucket or imageshack. Anyway, time will tell.

@TaylorFlame
The unified Houses of the Vetharil would hate to find a survey by pikemen of your clans necessary :p

From: The Highking of Vethmenari's Ministry
To: Mountain Peoples of Vetharoualk
Hail and well met. Though we have lived in this land since we first began to record the passing of time, we welcome your addition to its pageantry, and hope to reach a satisfactory borders agreement. We present to you such an agreement today, that the nation of Vethmenari and its Houses and provinces lay claim to all lands south of the mountains and foothills that you inhabit. We await your message eagerly.

Some Personal Gods of the Early Shahanar Castes

Okalon - The Great Sustainer: Okalon takes the form of a giant turtle, who holds the pearl of the world in his mouth. He is known as a protector and a patron of life. For obvious reasons, many coastal castes worship Okalon in his various forms. The deity is easily appeased, with a gift of fish. Followers of Okalon prefer to be placed in stone coffins and thrown into the sea at death. Okalon is the patron of rain, so some farmers ask for his blessings as well.

Vashi Vashar - The Golden Handed: Vashi Vashar takes many forms, including a stork, a golden-skinned woman, and a mouse. However, she is known as the patroness of good fortune, and of domestic security. While not strictly a goddess of fertility, Vashi Vashar is known to give protection to mothers with young children. Her favored castes are mostly craftspeople.

Saph'kalos - The Wise and Understanding: This particular deity has many variations, as some castes call him Saphkal, Aphkalos, Akhalon, and other spellings besides. He takes either the form of a stooped, older man, or a lithe, silver and blue salamander. In many tales, he alternates between the two. Many of the remote, mountain castes follow Saph'kalos, and some believe that he was actually a Tharnite mystic who ascended to godhood after achieving oneness with the Circle of Tharn. Saph'kalos appears in many tales as a guide or a wise man. Scholarly and scribal castes are particularly favored by Saph'kalos.

Tharn - The Great Circle: While the Tharnite mystics pray to a variety of mountain spirits like Saph'kalos, they also acknowledge the "World Circle" which unites all things. Like a momentary whirlpool in a broader stream, the Tharnites believe that one passes into this world, and may pass around the whirlpool many times, or simply once, before passing out. All things in creation participate in the Circle. The Circle of Tharn is viewed to be a broader, spiritual force that is the "current manifestation" of the physical world in which all people participate. Many Shahanar castes are beginning to 'worship' the Circle by acknowledging the participation of their individual personal gods and goddesses within it.

Kath Karu - The Herald of Night: The husband of Vashi Vashar. He commonly takes the form of a black wolf, or of a man with pure midnight skin. Kath Karu is the primal force of destruction and the shepherd of death. Shahanar warrior castes commonly make offerings to Kath Karu before going to battle. Kath Karu is a terrifying god, and he has few worshippers, but all speak his name with both fear and reverence.

Update's going to take another 24 hours. Or more. I hope not, though. I do want to keep this moving! Big wars, migrations, climate change and one wonder so far.

I'm guessing emu has given up, and I don't see any orders from Anonymoose or Abaddon, which could mean Matt0088 and Ninja Dude are all alone in their cradles :(

I am currently in the process of linking your signup/temple/description posts to the nation titles in the stats. Hopefully this will be of some use.

Ethaliri and Rhuhia added, preview below. I took some time to stitch together some custom grfx, didn't turn out too well IMO. And I really can't draw these things from scratch without it looking horrible and out-of-place. Anyway...
