Darius, The Best Leader.

Too much time preparing to defend my dissertation!

But i llike lots and lots of cities, like 30+ :(

Ditto! I sometimes drive my economy into the ground shortly in the beginning by building so many cities...
I fall behind for a bit, but then I storm ahead once I have markets, libraries and courthouses in them all.

6 cities is enough on any level.

Only against the AI... If you are playing against humans 6 cities can often be too few(of course in 1 vs 1 it is often too many...)

i'm late to this discussion... but hannibal has and always will have the best traits. pity about the UU and UB

If you feel like it, you could do an option in custom game allowing a leader and a civ to be separate.

-Set up 6 cities
-Get Rifling ASAP
-Have Globe Theatre city draft
-40 rifles, plus 20 trebs to roll over AI

:goodjob:

I'd like to see it.

40 rifles and 20 trebs killing more than 100 cities worth of Deity-AI spam? I know drafting is powerful, but isn't it most powerful with many cities? With only 6 cities, the amount you can draft in a short time is relatively limited.

Put cannons in the picture and it might sound more believable.

And yes, I'm fairly skeptical at times.

Huge map it should be 8 (minimum to build Oxford, Globe , etc.. )
Case in point.

if you have many city you cant have Rifle as fast
and you build 20+ Mace to Upgrade the turn you have Rifling. 7 turn of mad draft you have 20 more = 40+ Rifle very fast.

I've made post about this before. MP is a joke. Starting Position > Skill. The only way to make MP fair is to use Set Maps with Identical Starting Locations, Resources, and Land Features. Until they do that MP will remain broken and unplayable.

6 cities on a Huge map, on Deity, where the AIs were not picked? I'd like to see it.

Most people don't play Deity or Huge maps and on my last Deity win (in this forum) I only had 6 tiny, tiny, little cities.

However, take a look at some of Obsoletes Deity wins where he wonder whores or gets an AP win with 3 cities and an in game score of like 700 where 1st place has like 7000, lol.

For me drafting spam in 6 cities is not enough starting from Emperor. It feels like from Monarch to Emperor the AI unit build speed is almost doubled (with research and wonder build speed only slightly improved). Do you uber dudes play on normal speed?

I also think 640 KB of RAM should be enough for everyone.

you dont "draft" all your rifle man. You build bunch of maceman in your HE city long before Rifling , then updrade them. On Emperor you dont even need to draft, upgraded maceman and cats are enough.
I'll play a demonstration game on Emperor/Immortal if you like

Am I the only one who expands considerably less on Deity?

On lower levels, I'm confident that I'll overtake any opponents eventually if I secure sufficient land, hence I'm willing to push my economy to the limit and fall behind in tech for a while.

On Deity, staying in the trade game and snagging the few wonders I still care about is more important to me; catching up from behind can take too long to allow me to abuse the time windows of military dominance. AI-vs-AI war is also fast-paced enough that joining a dogpile and scavenging cities becomes attractive - so I'd rather have an army than a few additional cities.

@ Muxec

Here is the basic jist of how to use gold to upgrade large amounts of units. It's already in my signature actually. I say 6 cities is enough because especially on Deity you won't always be able to get a lot of cities, sometimes not even 6. Either way the link demonstrates the basic principles which is really overpowering.

6 cities is enough with some settings.

There are often times 6 cities is not enough, especially on Deity. Huge maps is still the perfect example and I've never seen someone do it (with at least the recommended number of AIs) without hand-picking them.

Most people don't play Deity or Huge maps and on my last Deity win (in this forum) I only had 6 tiny, tiny, little cities.
Maybe the reason people don't play Deity on Huge maps is that needing only 6 cities doesn't work.

If you're going to say 6 cities is enough on any difficulty level, you can't just later on say "most people don't play deity" to backup your claim. I'm still waiting to see someone win a Deity huge map with 6 cities.
