Nope, don't think so. It stays the same in vanilla and PTW.

I think it used to let you switch beakers to a different tech on older patch levels, but it was changed to start research over on the last patch for both versions. C3C started out that way. This change makes it vitally important that if you're researching something and have a long way to go, you'd better buy it once an AI gets it first, to avoid throwing away all that gold.

80/20 split sounds fine to me. I think we've got a reasonable chance at reaching Philo at a slightly slower pace. Besides, researching it is already killing our income level - there's no need for it to kill our growth as well.

The whole rest of the world, at least the ones we know, have a grand total of 139 gold. We have 210, at -1gpt. The last thing we want right now is a bunch more gold because we'll just lose it to demands.

We should do our best to get Philosophy ASAP, so using the fastest method is what I would do.
