Deity Challenge #11 - Inca on Highland

Yes we are all different and have our own way of learning and having fun.

For me when I have had the most fun and learnt the most is when a map is too hard for me and I have to replay it over and over. What is working. What is not. What can I do here hmm. etc. :)

Back to the map.. I am playing it atm, and have finished the first tree. But what next? Piety still looks stinky nomather how I see it. Patronage maybe for a stronger relation with cultural city states etc? Rationalism? Hmm...

piety is worth it. get to the cost reduction if city has a wonder (nationals dont count). take the bonus gold from temples last in that tree. traditionally, culture vics try to tech quickly to industrial to open and finish freedom ASAP.

trees typically taken are Tradition - Piety - Freedom - any 2 from Liberty/Patronage/Commerce. this is just typical, not a must.

Freedom wow.. Hmm... I am learning so much here lol. :)

I can't help myself focusing on science still. :( I need to really get into this cultural thing :)

its just like filling science slots but fill artist slots to churn them out. getting cathedrals with religion is a must for the extra artist slot if its available. settle 5+ artists and then double that with freedom finisher plus % modifiers, wonder spam the biggies, prioritize oracle/chichen itza, try to stay in a golden age as long as possible, get the louvre, save 1 artist for GA for Utopia project, etc. the "general" pace is finishing a policy every 10 turns. keeping that pace is pretty hard.

if played optimally you dont need Cristo Redentor. and on this map i dont think you can get Sydney Opera House (not always necessary) if there are no coasts.

going with the Great People strategy is popular and useful. there are other ones (france with puppets, monty with warfare, etc) but many do rely on the 1 policy per 10 turns pace to get below t275-300.

What is the point of piety really? The only one I really understand is "religious tolerance". Reformation seems decent, but others really looks awful to me.

Guess i have posted before:
best sp path for cult victory:
1-4 cities:
full tradition-->liberty till reduced sp costs-->full peity-->freedom-->finish liberty-->whatever

4-6+ cities:
full liberty (maybe leave happy away)-->full peity--> tradition till indu is opened --> full freedom -->finish tradition-->whatever

2nd option is a but more tricky, u have to fit in tradition starter and legalism clever, but if u can keep multiple cities early and fast growing it should be able to pump out more culture midgame (and endgame aswell obviously)

We had a thread where I thought it might be a good idea to use Rationalism instead of Piety for a 'late' cultural victory. It did not work out as intended.

@Old Peter: piety isnt the best tree but it is decent for culture vics. you'll see the strength when you play more culture games. a strong religion is a big benefit for CVs so lots of faith and bonuses to faith buildings are helpful.

more faith (5 instead 3), 33% more culture, free GA, 10% less sp costs - not good enough?
Pretty strong tree, with only 1 problem - blocking rati ..

And to pick spots where to settle with the Incas = Supertricky!

Normally, I have a good idea of where to settle cities once I have explored. But with the Incas it really takes a lot of time to figure out good city spots.

I am disappointed with how I've played this map. I will replay it from scratch. :) Hopefully I will replay this map a lot of times, I am learning like never before ;)

Oh, i missed that it was Culture restricted. Anyway, start looks promising, might try it in my free time. I guess, to be safe, one has to play a domination game anyway :D

Which is a shame because that's a such a *HUGE* cost to pay for taking it in a game so driven by science. :( It's actually a good tree on its own merits(well, the +10% Gold from Temples thing is kind of ass, but still).

map looks very "multiplayerlike" doubt many people will like it.

Also I fear that occ might be best on this map and difficulty as other cities will very probably not get any wonders - and without wonders the oportunity costs in sp will be kinda high.

So it ll proly be like 4 ciites --> war
Or boring occ (and win at some point as ai cant win)

From what I hear so far everybody is put out of their comfort zone in this challenge. I think a ton of strategies will be viable and it will be so interesting to see which is the best one. I think at least I will learn more from this challenge than all the others combined lol.

Thats because you are choosing Swords to Plowshares.:p

* No ancient ruins! (They are luck dependent and stressful. People will reload less and not learn patterns.)
The best "reload and not learn" pattern is the one Firaxis implemented: long turns times at the end. I must admit they keep me from even an initial load forget about reloading. I've learned to avoid the ending with gusto.
