This is a WW2 themed challenge.

I have not seen many Deity games with Mao, so we will honor him as our leader.

Settings:

Deity/Fractal/Normal speed

Leaders:

Mao (human)
Roosy
Churhill
Stalin
Bismarch
Toku
DG of French

There is not locked team, so feel free to mix it up a bit with Maveric diplomacy.

This is an open game, everyone is welcom. Please enclose any reports in spoiler tags.

We could roughly set the following check in dates for discussion/comparison purpose:

1. 1000BC
2. 1 AD
3. 500 AD
4. 1000 AD
5. 1500 AD
6. 1800 AD
7. End

Here we go:

I might consider settling on the rice if there is another food resource nearby.

The hill to the east looks like a nice spot for a capital. Hammer-boosted, plenty of hills... An extra food resource wouldn't be a luxury though.

Three free turns on normal speed due to the initial worker finishing earlier. Your entire empire would run at a snowballing headstart.

Is Mao expansive? Then it'd only be a 2 turn advantage, though (12 -> 10 turns), since we already get a free hammer for building a worker @ expansive.

:goodjob: Sure to play this one. I don't see a clear reason not to settle in place. Will move the warrior sw to check. Hard to say right now how good the start is but with an irrigated rice and a gold it's certainly not bad.

I might give it a go, although I'm not up to deity.
To me the plains hill E looks attractive--but most likely there is food in the BFC to the W. So I'm thinking move the warrior nw, and if no food there settle 1E. If there is food, settle in place.

there's one reason why i wouldn't settle on rice ... it got fresh water

i'd throw warrior up on the gold to get a view to the south and east

and then most likely settle on the hill 1e

1S enables levee, so i sent warrior onto gold hill to check out South and East.

He finds river grass cow. This makes setting 1S more attractive.

I d give up silk for cow but another city can grab silk.

there are lots of plain tile and hill tile in this capital, it seems it will be more suited as a prod city rather than a cottage city.

i might even go 2s1e and then placing another city taking the rice and silk :) ... reason for this is Costal :)

^^ not worth it. he wouldn't have any coastal tiles so not being coastal isn't a big disadvantage - 1S is the best placement by far

i might even go 2s1e and then placing another city taking the rice and silk :) ... reason for this is Costal :)

Coastal is nice, but since this is the capital and the source of all our early worker/settler production, we really need to keep the rice in BFC.

i think 1S is a good idea, and if there is a strategic resource on the grassland hill or the plains tiles that would be given up, the second city or 3rd culture ring could pick them up.

Wow winning a deity game with Mao would be a nice achievement but then again the start looks really great! Might give it a go time permitting. 1S looks best of course. Not exactly a stellar bureacracy capital but it should ace the early turns with gold rice cows and a few river tiles. There's even a forested plains hill in first ring to cut worker production by 3 turns.

2200BC Map and dotmap

Spoiler :

Explored map:

dotmap:
Spoiler :

since we got tons of jungles to the north, we seem limited to expanding Eastward.

what do you think about this dotmap. Basically set up a GP farm first, then a commerce city. Cities will be far hence high Maint. So we will need early commerce from cottages (city 2 and 4).

City 3 will give decent production and + 1 :)

Research so far:
Archery, BW. Will need Myst/Fishing/hunting/Writing soon.

Big Update:

Until 1535AD

Spoiler :

475BC:

Rexing according to planned. It seems AIs are relunctant setting the jungles early so i was able to grab those 2 jungle cities with extremely high potentials ChengDu and HangZhou (I have been to both those cities in real life too..)

Note Bis captured a barb city righ between those 2 cities, it will be a tough cultural fight to get the rice and those suger. But that is what our UB is good for.

25BC:

HangZhou surrounded by 3 German cities, feelling culture pressure. Going for early drama for our UB. I joined Jewish club sharing it with 2 close neighbours Roosy and Bis. Working on getting them pleased/friendly.

500AD:

Focusing on growing cities large, 1 GP farm, 2 cottage cities, Capital+Nanjing prod/commerce cities, and 2 new cities are getting farms for growing and whipping culture buildings.

Bis already friendly.

No NE, getting late GS prob just in time to bulb Edu.

Bis got a large land lead, he got lucky captured some barb cities using a large stack of archers with the help from Americans.

540AD:

Bis (Ger) and Toku (Jap) double team on Roosy (US) who is Confu. Looks like the Axis are in control in this game lol.

600AD:

The world is in a messy war, Stalin and DG are doubing Church and Mao is enjoying his afternoon tea while reading about the news that the world is going up the flames.

800AD: Tech chart, back filled a lot of techs through trading.

900AD: Won lib race taking Astro.

1040AD: Bis became a monster, took some key American cities and Vassaled Roosy, he is no longer friendly. So I paid very high price for him to attack civs to the East. Hind site this is prob a mistake as the price was too high. Also he is so strong he actually is capable of defeating an aggressive Stalin. My idea is to somehow get the guy in the East Stalin/DG/Churchill against the German Jugg.

1070AD: Toku against teamed up with Bis against Stalin, there is no way Stalin can with stand this kind of combined power.

1110AD: Finally decided to put NE in ShanHai and use it as a late full time GP farm. GPs are no longer very important at this point, so I kept those early cottages.

1240AD: A Reckless DG declares on everyone. And he does have a decent SOD.

1380AD:

Winning the key cultural war in the rice/gem/Ivory city, put hermitage and cathedrals here.

1500AD: Massing Factories and preparing for war against the Germans. Bis is running away on techs, howevery he failed to tech AL for a very long time.

1500AD: GuangZhou fully cottaged in a late GA.

1535AD: Last turn duing the GA, changed to War civics.

I was able to focus on teching to Domocracy and setting up a full CE with my 7 cities produing 1300+ beakers at 1500AD. I was able to keep other guys distracted using my consistant tech lead and bribes the entire game so I had basically 1 archer in each city until now.

Now ever city got Factory/Coal plant mass producing Infantry, the 1st GG from Facism is used in a MA for faster troop prod. Workers railing up the 7 city network for a very mobile war.

Bis' powercurve is through the roof, Toku and Churchill can not be bribed to attack him since they are "Afraid his Military Might". So basically I will need to bribe De Guille out of his war with England, and then Bribe Bis to attack De Guille to stretch his fronts to the far East. Can Mao save the world from the Axis tyranny...

played up til 1360 BC
Spoiler :

I got a bit lucky with huts. Got wheel from the first one. The second one popped one barb(not enough to kill my warrior) and the 3rd one gave me xp for woody 2. Then i found yet another hut for 38 gold. My woody 2 got to woody 3. Got copper right outside of BFC of capital so i skipped archery. And hooked up copper on turn 57. Kinda risky but seemed like there were alot of AI units around in addition to my fogbusting warriors(later happiness helpers) so it was fine as i now got axes out. Capital is at size 7 and a production monster and second city have very good production as well... Guess they'll both spam some workers and settlers and i'll hopefullt be able to settle 6-7 cities peacefully at least... With stone and protective i might whip / chop out some walls later on...

It is war time! 1535AD-1655AD

Spoiler :

De Gaulle is Furious with me, but I do need to keep him strong to distract Bis. So I gifted De Gaulle all techs he needs and got him out of the war with England.

My plan is to pitch every civ that is not a vassal (France, England, Japan) of Bis to fight against Bis. And give them all military techs to allow them fight better against Bis' gigantic SODs. They have smaller land and power, and they will never be able to catch up with me on techs anyway.

1560AD:

Since I could not bribe De Gaulle to attack Bis, so I bribed Bis to Attack De Gaulle, works just as good. Now Bis will send his SODs to the far east of the continent.

1640AD:

I built up a decent force to quickly take those 2 Bis cities engulfed in my culture, this will only take 2 quick turns, but the main challenge will come from Bis counter attack. He still does not have Infantry (AL), but has tons of Rifle/Sam Infantry/Cav/Arty

So my plan is to use minimum amount of force to take those 2 cities, and keep a large defensive force fortified in HangZhou to face his onslaught.

1650AD: After taking the 2 cities, here is Bis awesome counter attack SOD. He got 40+ Sam in that single stack! Good that we are protective, I promoted all unpromted infantry(about 6) to CG3. My other potent defenders including 4 fortified Drill2 MGs, they have +50% against gunpower units. Since I bribed Bis to attack France 16 turns ago, I fully anticipated that his large Siege SODs are probably in the East, so i am not afraid his large SODs without Siege support.

1650AD: I sacrificed 3 Barrage2 arties on his stacks to weaken them

Now cross our fingles and hope for favorable RNG....

1650AD: Epic battle...

The power of fortified protective gunpower units in a showcase!

1650AD: I gifted DG some gold, Assembly line and Artillary to allow him fight better against Bis on the Eastern front.

1655AD: Give Assembly Line to Toku to DOW bis. This bribe effectivelly cut off all Bis' Eastern forces (fighting with the French) from his mainland since Toku is right in between Germany and France. I do expect Toku and DG will make short work of Bis' trapped SODs.

And Toku's Aggressive/Protective infantries should be able to cause some major damage on Bis. I will say this particular bribe is the most strategically important since Now #2,#3 AIs and myself are at war with #1 AI. Toku has very good power, we should be able to take down Bis.

1655AD: WWII in full swing.

Bis is 2 turns away from Infantry and a few turns away from Gunship/Tanks, so our window of success is very small.

The the key now is to destroy Bis large offensive SODs and put him completely on the defense and systematically using concentrated force to take down his key cities.

wow, i don't think i've ever seen a late game deity war be4. Nice job!:goodjob:
