What I didnt' like was... you have too many settlers right now... and too much time & hammers was wasted on cottages. Also I don't like your civics, (but now your got tied to them cause of the cottages). And I really don't like the city builds.

Now, that I have butchered your save up. Let me re-iterate that I still think it's the best (I guess this means I insulted everyone else too?).

Regardless, I think it's impossible to lose this game at this point.

, i have known for years that our playing styles are wildly different. The more the merriers means very different things to us , you're talking about wonders i am about cities.

About the civics , FS was chosen for culture not cottages, i'm still in HR instead of rep for the diplo/trade bonus, i'm hardly running any specialist anyway. I'm sure you like OR yourself.

Dirk, I also agree about impossible to lose. It makes the current voting round quite meaningless. I am quite content to finish my game (I don't think my save is the best, but I am sure it's winnable.), and everyone else who wants can finish their's, and then we can move on to the next cookbook challenge.
Maybe we should add "finish game" as a voting option for the next round, so the majority believes it's a "can't lose" situation we can move on.

Yes i would certainly like to do this, gives me the opportunity to finish my own save and move on. Since the saves will be played out it will also become clear why we think the position's won (or that we were wrong ).
I think Obsolete and Rusten would be pleased too since they'll have a fresh start. I don't think the voting is meaningless btw i love the discussion about strengths/weaknesses of the saves, think it's educative too. So i propose to vote for a save but include the willingness to play on from any save to the finish.

On the other hand, there may also be players who joined the thread expecting we'd play this game according to the rules, that were laid down at the start, to the end. If there's is any objection to this plan by one of the participants i feel we should stick to the original rules/timeline.

Well don't mind me. I don't have problems with carrying on other's saves, even if I'm the only one who hangs around to FINISH it. And like you said, the settler to immortal players are probably wanting to see this finished. It could be very well they are suspecting we are just FULL OF IT, and simply want an excuse to re-roll a new start before we get pummeled to death in this one. Haha!

On the other hand, I"m all up for starting a fresh one from scratch while this one is still in progress. Even after all this time, there definitely is a deficit of deity games. It seems the players of caliber for it is just too little to get much going. I even tried to get a team game going in the succession threads, but it's hard to find the caliber for it.

I agree that the game should be impossible to lose now. I thought my save was great and it is pretty much a guaranteed win (first in production, second in land and pretty close to the top in techs), but several better saves were posted.

So voting for the best save loses some of its appeal. I think I will probably just continue my save and see how much faster you guys can win .

Ideas for next CB.

1. Have a non-player friend generate a map and make sure no stone no marble near by.

2. Pick a weaker leader. I believe Deity is all about successfully REXing to at least 6 cities pre 1AD, and We all have seen a creative leader with a superb early UU can do this with ease. So I suggest someone with Aggressive/Expansive/Industrious with no stone/marble.

About map, I think we should just stick with the normal settings and take a no-so-generous (i.e. no rich floods, 2 gems and etc) map which the generator gives.

That's great and all, but then we'll end up with someone like Darius, get horses near by, and after killing our neighbour in BC, we are still stuck with the same problem.

As educational as this thread is for lurkers like me, at this stage following the rules to the letter rather than letting people finish their own games probably wouldn't add much to the experience. Seeing a victory would be nice though.

Also it's quite hard to follow the game over so many pages, perhaps players could link to each stage in their initial post?

I would happily roll and check a map with these and any other settings.

It's imo important that the games get finished. We said "impossible to lose", it's still a deity game so this has to be proven. I remember playing a NC on deity level, the start was great and i was in roughly the same position as i'm now. I did win it but i had to work very hard as Sulei who also was in the same position there as he is in this game threatened to launch ~1810 AD. Since i also had to reckon there with an oversees cultural vic by a very big Willem that was harder than this one i think.

Is there a consensus we don't vote this time? Personally i like the voting process but i don't have time to write a summary this time. So i assume the following amendments to the rules are made:

- we play to a finish instead of 1500 AD
- we may continue our own save (or everybody else's for that matter)

I agree with Munch's idea, i had long planned to at least link to the summaries in the OP. I can certainly link my own posts together in the way he describes very easily. If others do this as well i can subsequently copy those links to the OP.

So we need a hard map next time. I'm not in favor to bend the rules with things like no tech brokering. The most fun would be if the map is hard but we don't know in which way it is hard. That's the problem with other games i've seen in this respect such as the immortal + game you just knew you're surrounded by warmongers. On other maps you just know you don't have much room to expand etc...Lack of happy resources make a map as ABC suggests harder too .

So my idea is that someone (Munch?) who knows what makes a map hard to play should prepare it so we can play it without prior knowledge.We could pile up a list of ingredients that might go into the mix.

We also have to evaluate before starting the next map what the rules will be exactly, as i said in the discussion thread i'm in favor of always being allowed to play on from your own save. I'd like to continue discussion about format there.

Didn't really follow the whole thread (or the game) but Imho I don't think the trait/UU won the game. The fact that you could quite easily block of land for 6+ cities did.

Yes, sure it was the block, i didn't use the ub at all myself,uu came in good for taking out barbs. Before we all drown in a sea of "look how good we are" i think all the participants have to play the game to a win from here to prove this. I'm fairly confident i can do this but it may take some focused play, so i will certainly be back to report what happened.

I've been interested in using the UU's of Sumeria for a ruch on a smaller map, and a good capitol-capturing raid on some lager maps. However, I've not been able to pull it off very well...
strangely, I am able to pull off early rushes very well with serveral civs, just not Sumeria.

Am I just suited for medieval warfare (as my namesake implies), or is there some unseen tactic that I'm missing with these UU's???

Hi guys...

Well I played to 940AD when it becomes clear that the situation is lost ...
Tech speed was quite slow (even if I would win the lib race in 3 or 4 turns) and I didn't build quite enough troops to prevent a Dow from Shaka. I killed some troops in Eridu but he surprised me with a stack near my banana city... the city will fall next turn probably too much phants, cats, maces, pikes to cope ...
I guess the situation was too bad in 1AD (I played from my save)... I let the save if someone is kind enough to take a look and give pointers...

Will go on lurking mode for the end of the month as I lack civ time and prioritize the SGs (to not penalize the team).

Don't know exactly but i think the Zig is very overrated . It seems nice to have it handy at priesthood but in reality you're building granaries/libs/lighthouses in these cities. By the time you really get to the Zigs you're close to col anyway. So imo the only real advantage is that they're not so expensive. But in this game it was the easy barb city taking that i loved so much, vultures rule in the barb city taking game.

@RR i think your city will hold. It's not the best save here but you're still in with a chance imo.
