Deity/Domination or Violent Culture/Large Map

Played this one in one go.

Turn 150: Annexed both cities and other minor micromanagement changes. Switch the trebuchet/garden to Galleas/Guild.
Dido is suspicious so I have to Dow her.

T151: Steal economics, starting the war

T152: Feed Lisbon, it's a bit food poor

T153: Buy 2 galleas

T154: Navigation finishes we get 3 frigates, start building more. I go chemistry, we need extra production we're late on frigate numbers.

T157: Captured Utique after a recapture. I Raze, no buildings no new lux.

T158: Queued for Scientific Theory

T164: I get Carthage had to scrifice a few units (2minutes 3xb) but I think its okay as we are transitioning out of crossbows. We get a GS that I think we should keep for a later bulb.

T165: Next player

Spoiler :

I'd suggest trying to get Sukhotai from Dido and then continue if necessary or settle for peace.
Meanwhile build barracks+armory and ships. Once we have 7/8 Frigates I'd go harass someone to farm experience until we get some range frigate (promo 3) at which point getting some of the coast cities should be rather easy).

Meanwhile economy wise we should be ready for schools in a handful of turns and build them. Radio is not a necessary tech for Electronics so I'd preffer getting the ideology through 3 factories by getting undustrialization after ST. We can either buy them or build them. I'd still make a few melee units for defense and maybe the land cities can start making canons at some point for future artilleries as necessary.

Ouch! That was brutal

@Bugsy
I'm going to assume you will let Frigates help out the capturing of Hippo Regius. Personally I'd eradicate Carthage completely as Dido is by far the AI I hate the most in this game, warmonger penalties be damned :)

Your call though

I won't be able to play tonight - exams to grade. But ST brings up a good topic we should discuss. I just had a personal deity game where I took out Ramesses (had to go through the expansion city to get to the capitol) and I was immediately dogpiled by the other civs. I held them off, but it set me behind and never caught back up. Being gun shy I'm thinking we don't wipe out Dido. Right now she is crippled.

I think we take the Siamese capitol and then sue for peace.

Concur with this plan. Range 3 frigates promote to range 4 battleships. Add in some submarines, and a destroyer or two and you have a city capturing machine. What do you guys think about privateers?

Canons to artillery is good. We'll need some, but how many? I'm not sure.

So the way I am reading this is we go for Scientific Theory, then Industrialization. When do we go for biology?

Here is a play philosophy question? Do you always annex cities, or do you puppet some? I have only been annexing the best cities, typically the capitols.

You should annex cities as long as you can tank the temporary unhapiness. If a city is not good enough to be annexed I suggest razing it rather than keeping it a puppet indefinetely.

Getting control over more cities is more important than not delaying policies.

We should get Bio after industrialization. Then get toward Electronics. We should use Oxford + 2-3 GS for the last techs before electronics so prebuilding Oxford at some point is a good idea.

A handful of artilleries/rocket may be necessary for inland cities

Well that could be a game changer for me. Thank you for the coaching.

I concur with both. I'll just save the GS for some point in the future.

Some observations made during a break in grading. Here is a sketch:

1. Keep training frigates.
2. Keep a small contingent around Carthage for defense. Probably 3 crossbows.
3. Position the attack force to the northwest of Sukhothai. Lead with minutemen and follow with crossbows moving all simultaneously within range of the city in one turn. The goal is to have nearly all units able to attack on the next turn. Have to be careful not to have anyone in range of Saguntum. Definitely lose any unit in that crossfire..

Other observations:
Who's handing Rammy his head over on the coast? Si Satch is at half strength..

One last thought. How long do we wait to annex Carthage? Obviously it needs to be out of resistance and not at risk of being recaptured. But should we wait longer than that?

We have to get more happiness before more annexings. It's possible it will have to wait until Ideology.

Si Satch is actually healing, it was at 0 way earlier.

Frigates can hold carthage easy, you'll need crossbows if you want to get the other city.

So it's all out Autocracy romp and stomp. Nice! :D

Getting Siam cap back and then peace out is alright, I agree.

Thanks for the intel on the frigates. The more XP we can get them the better. Crossbows will head north tonight.

When I annex something, I usually wait until I have 600G (which we have) and immediately buy a courthouse to handle the unhappiness. Is that not advisable?

Preflight – Turn 165 – 1050 AD – Move a few units north into attack position.

Si Satchanlai has Machu Pichu. We might want to consider grabbing that.

We have Zoroastrianism in Lisboa. Shrines give food and happiness if we need it.

How many turns are we playing now? 10 or 15?

IBT – Ahmad of Morocco wants to swap open borders. Instead I get 50 G from him.

Architecture comes in.

Turn 166 – 1060 AD – Our caravel meets Yerevan.

Sell the Doge a spare citrus for 141G and 3 gpt. I notice that he has lost his capitol.

IBT – Bismarck wants a research agreement (300G a side straight up). Since I need to eat dinner, I'll ask the team. I'm inclined to go for it.

Finished with dinner. No response. Pull the trigger on the RA. (Edit: I see Acken agrees. Cool.)

Turn 167 – 1070 AD – Hmmm.... I wonder where Maria is going?

I’m thinking Siam.

We have a new SP. I select Secularism (+2 beakers for each specialist). That’s worth an extra 60 beakers a turn.

We meet Hanoi.

Use a general to get another ivory within our lands. Sell to Kamehameha for 4gpt and 108G.

IBT – Bismarck declares war on Maria.

IBT – Continued – Wittenberg captures Hippo.

Turn 168 – 1080 AD – Set up for an attack on Sukhothai next turn.
Philly: frigate => frigate
Boston: Minuteman => cannon

IBT – An artist is born.

Turn 169 – 1090 AD – We don’t have a place for another work of art. I’ll save the GA for now and build something.

Position units for the siege of Sukhothai. Here is the tactical situation:

Siege begins next turn.
