Democratic Succesion Game

As for strategies for victory...are we going for domination or space race here? Culture may be a serious challenge, but we might pull it off. I have no experience with Diplo wins on a Big and Small map.

Your thoughts?

Turn 0, 875 BC: First off I remove the sign over our third city. Send the axe in our northern city towards the ivory just to make sure everything is clear.
IT- A barb moves adjacent to our fortified warrior.

Turn 1, 850 BC: The warrior stays fortified, as we have the fortification bonus and the defense from the forest.

Turn 2, 825 BC:
IT- Delhi TGL -> Galley; Bombay Axe -> Library

Turn 3, 800 BC: One of our axes takes out a barb warrior. I start connecting the second beaver resource for possible trade deals.
IT- Barb takes the bait and attacks our warrior from across the river. We whoop the backwards dog!

Turn 4, 775 BC:
IT- Research Math -> Alphabet

Turn 5, 750 BC:

Turn 6, 725 BC:
IT- Delhi Galley -> Barracks; Third Settler -> Galley

Turn 7, 700 BC: Galley heads towards sheep island/pennisula

Turn 8, 675 BC: Start chopping the tile the settler is going to squat on. Might as well grab those :hammers:.

Turn 9, 650 BC:
IT- Delhi Barracks -> Settler

Turn 10, 625 BC: Pata... is founded and begins a monument.
IT- Bombay Library -> Axe; Vi... Galley -> Lighthouse

Turn 11, 600 BC: I wanted to know more about the sheep landmass, so I played an additional turn.

I say we settle the purple dot on the island next. That stone could be very useful.

Here's he 600 BC save.

OMG! That's my island! Wow...what a sweet find! I totally agree with you, Methos, and a well played turn, way to take it to those dogs!

EDIT!
Those are Mansa Musa's cultural borders north of the island...I think we've found our first victim!

Maybe im really too late, but I would like to join you in this game. I don't really need to play myself, but I would like to think along etc :)

Anybody can comment on the game. You would be considered a lurker. Actual players must ask the host of the game, which is dutchfire. Discussion is always nice, no matter if it's the actual players or from lurkers. Assuming our host doesn't mind, of course.

Well I don't mind if I won't get the right to play ;) discussing alone is fun enough.

I need to do alot of reading first though ;)

Nice city site! But I'd prefer settling the continent first, as I see more competition from the other civs there.

How is our research slider doing? Good enough for some additional cities?

I'm fine with w00ter as an additional player, since we don't have a lot of players right now (as I'm out until I finally get my installation in order).

I've read the whole thread (w00t! took me quite some time!). I really like the whole whole succesion and discussion idea. But since I never played a succesion game before, I think I'm just gonna play along the passive way :)

That's fine too :)

Joe Harker is up again by the way.

Somehow I can't open the save file. I think I have the wrong version (latest patch).

According to you screenshot, you haven't patched BtS to 3.13 yet. You're still in 3.01 with save version 3.00 (like I am)

I've finally succeeded in patching to 3.13, so I'm up!

I've had a look at the save, and these are my thoughts:

Vija.... is set to a lighthouse, but doesn't need it, it has enough good tiles to work at the happines cap without the 3 sea tiles. I think it should produce a settler (7), though a worker (4) is good too.

On the western coast, there's a nice potential corn, cow, wine site.
It seems the barbarians are reading this thread too, and they've been so nice to settle Cherokee there. I think we should try to take it, it has 3 archers though.

There are malinese borders near Pataliputta, so we should hurry grabbing the last land available. There's a nice spot 3W 4N of Pata... that has corn, cow and 3 dyes. I think our next settler should go there. Our settler from Vija... can then grab a galley and settle the eastern island.

We're #1 in GNP, Production and Food by the way, good work so far!

Research should probably be alphabet->currency

when I press "check for updates" it says that there are no patches available and that I'm up to date...

w00ter, you may want to consider just downloading the latest official patch and installing it.

IMHO, lighthouse after settler, but I'm losing track of how many settlers we are now building. I think we have one, which I agree to go to the corn and die location, but we have the island and the ivory to also get...and a military to get moving...decisions are getting tighter and tighter already.

I would bank on Mansa and/or Qin attempting to grab either the ivory or the corn and die site ASAP, and I am not sure if we can get both if we also go for the island right away. We may need to get the two sites secured inland prior to going for the nice island location. 3 archers are going to require atleast 6 CR Promo Axemen or 5 CR Promo Swordsmen to be 100% sure of success. Do we have any Axemen yet?

So much to do....

I've manually downloaded and succesfully installed the latest patch. :)

After looking through the civics I wondered: no slavery.. why?

I went with the lighthouse as this city doesn't have many good tiles to work. Coastal tiles for the :commerce: could always be useful. I contemplated a settler too, but finally went for the lighthouse.

IIRC it has quite enough forests to work, and it's max size is 6 at the moment anyway, so it only needs 6 decent tiles.

Slave revolt random event, no point in running slavery when you're not whipping yet. (remember that discussion Conroe? :))
