Developing the next RNES.

Good to see another RNES, I'll definitely join lol.

Now what I was thinking Roddy, was that if you make life too hard for players, they don't bother to send orders. I mean however easy JNES/UKNES/RNES orders are, you still get some people without time to send them.

So tomorrow I'm going to begin work on a program which I hope I'll finish before I go on holiday, which will simply allow the player to write a list like this:

Number of Units=Current Province/Sea>Destination Province/Sea
2=MAU>CON
1=EGY>LIB
etc

And then just copy and paste across. But then the impact on the map...

I'm still trying to figure out what I'll do, maybe just leave units as not appearing on the map, or just have it as lists.

lol well u can lower the value from 12, well it was primarly designed to be accurate as of today in economic value. oh well.

and how can a naval transport carry soldiers and planes?
shouldnt it be separate to personel carriers and aircraft carriers?
throw submarines in ;)

maybe we can place nukes in the game, really really expensive, when deployed it kills a large percentage of the units defending that terytory, but that terrytory value goes down bigtime, making u pay a lot to rebuild it.

Hmm, I have a few idea's for the next JNES (this weekend is going to be launched), Ill post some here, the rest talk to me and Ill tell you, Roddy, since Im, well, lazy ;).

Anyways, I like the 2 units idea, so that there is more strategy involved.

Air units should either be used to bombard, or to increase attack/defense. Also, you should have navy bombard.

Province costing, I would tweak the map as compared to what nations you are making available. Combine provinces so to match those of others. It will take a lot of balancing work, but i think that is the only way of doing it on this map. Also, that city thing was actually my idea, lol, that I gave to nem for his nes, and i think it is a great idea. You can bet u will see it on the next JNES.

Also, if your making it with air units, that means you will have countries premade, right? This can very much help in balancing economies, since the JNES system would have worked should I of had premade borders with every country on a continent having the same amount of territories. This can be accomplished by erasing and adding provinces, and then using each territory on a continent costing different, like on JNES.

Uhmm, lets see. I think thats all i cant think about right now, lol. I would love to discuss it and the next JNES on aim with you!

edited out.

Tech is good. We can also have a tech to increase speed of units.

Diff nation abilities is not so good. It will take ages to balance it.

Roddy,

Having been a part-time follower of various NES games, I'm looking forward to seeing how a new variant would be developed.

The best advice I've seen so far is to keep it simple. Period. Decide on the focus of your game, and expand from there.

What is the objective of this game? Conflict, like RNES? Then the focus is units. Building them, moving them and fighting them.

If you decide to allow upgrades - how long to research? How long to then upgrade existing armies? Does this imact the cost of the unit? Example, new rifles improve your ability to attack by 1. This could be represented by improving the kill chance by one, or by counting as one additional army per battle (no, not one additional army per army, just per battle). Once researched, the country must spend 2 turns equiping existing and new armies, at a cost of .1 per army, per turn. New tech does cost, after all. After this, armies cost .5 additional.

Players just keep making requests, you track the costs (should be easy in a spreadsheet).

Okay, just an example, insert numbers as needed, but this balances out what happens, while trying to keep things simple for you.

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled thread.

I've never liked technology in games, it is yet another thing to worry about. It should just be numbers and strategy.

And I agree, I like the one province expansion thing as well.

National abilities would be kewl.

interesting fact about the map that we're using in Jnes and the one i'm gonna use in this game.
there are 216 provinces (including islands)
there are problems with the following:
Chile (in S. America) has no province names.

BAN is near pakistan and there's one in east india too.
BOR is in france and an island north of Australia
there's 2 CONs in africa, they're only 1 province away from eachother for crying out loud. that bytes
HUN is in europe (hungaria) and in China
MAL is in middle east, and an island off India's coast.
MAR is in France and an island NE of Australia
ROM = Rome and Romania. bastards
SIC is off the coast of Italy and in central China

do NOT download this file. it should disappear soon anyway. thanks
