[Development] Map Suggestions

I was talking more about whatever is going on with those rivers? Am I hallucinating this?

Please IGNORE current rivers - they are not finished
That's why - there is no any information in my text-post about them
And if we speak about American rivers - I prefer return to current git's version of map because my idea to show extra U.S. rivers is useless

On first look, there's some things that are a bit questionable. To put some words to Leo's reaction, these are the two things that stood out most to me:
  • Why is there an oil resource in Massachussets/eastern New York state/the Atlantic coast? If this is supposed to be the Pennsylvanian oil, it really should be to the west/centre of Pennsylvania, which is a minimum 4 tiles west of that oil.
  • There are a LOT of horses. I count at least 8. I'm not an American, but I don't think of horses when I think of the seaboards, and there are currently 5 horse resources between the two seaboards. Hell there might be more horses in the USA right now than in all of Europe.

Thanks: I agree with both statements
Please write here other ideas - if You will find something

Anyone knows the ETA to atleast make the map playable for SVN?

Just wanna know because i'm thinking of modding some civs, but right now i feel like it's not the time since the map will be enlarged soon.

I don't think the map will be ready for some time still. The actual geography of the map is only the first step: all RFC maps are heavily modded with settler maps, war maps, stability maps, and city name maps (plus resource spawning scripts and conqueror events, which all are tied into the map) that it will be a long time before the map is in any playable state for RFC style play. After all, the geography itself is not even completed yet.

There will only be progress once the map is finalised, at which point discussion of the city name map will start. We are far away from a working map and I made no pretensions about that when I laid out the roadmap for this.

I'll take the asnwer as: Definitely not in this year.
Thanks for the answer.

That sounds right.

I've been playing RFC Europe for a while and i noticed that despite of the map's size, they actually have Denmark and Sweden connected, letting you cross the countries by foot.

Just saying, it's a bit inconvinient making a ship bridge between Denmark and Sweden

I know Leoreth has not been a fan of previous suggestions regarding straits, and perhaps this has already been suggested, but:

Why not allow units to land on and walk on the "Island" terrain feature, and put islands in the Danish Strait (among other places, perhaps Honshu-Hokkaido if appropriate and if the larger map allows that amount of granularity, for example.) In my opinion, it's simple, elegant, makes sense, and doesn't require any special tiles while still allowing ship access.

I tried doing this before, the AI could not handle it. Would require some changes to how the AI handles land/sea movement.

I see. Unfortunate, but I shouldve expected it. Seems like any kind of nice solution would be really hard to implement, aside from just not implementing anything at all.

Whenever I play as Indonesia I change the tile, that perhaps represents Bali, to have rice

Here is a quote from the Wikipedia article that would suggest a similar sort of change:

"The great prosperity of Majapahit was probably due to two factors. Firstly, the northeast lowlands of Java were suitable for rice cultivation, and during Majapahit's prime numerous irrigation projects were undertaken, some with government assistance."

So a "northeast" (or just eastern) tile of Java can be changed to have rice. The banana tile to or on the south east of Java (this might represent Bali, not sure) can be eliminated or changed.

Nothing suggested here has been implemented yet, the idea is to collect suggestions and then implement the best ones. If you want to make the most impact, focus on areas that haven't had much attention in this thread, but you can always go into greater detail like Finbros's posts did.

I know there isn't an 'updated' version of the big map, but where can I find the original version of the big map, that people have been revising and editing? I was hoping to contribute to a few areas, though I don't have the Git updates (I'm running version 1.15) so it'd need to be compatible with the last installer.

There's the map branch in the Git repo, you can checkout to that branch to see the bigger map.

It's not compatible with the 1.15 release, the map branch includes a bunch of code changes to make it work.
