[Development] Resource Spawn Suggestions

By that same logic why make it a spawn then, it might as well be present on the map from the start.

No. There are many resources that spawn for consistent, historical and gameplay reasons. Again, before Greek spawn nobody will settle Italy or any of those spots, so I still don't see the point.

I don't think we need to simulate the historical spread of every single crop, as long as no civilisation can prematurely access it.

I really like magnificent idea of speading Earth's Map: I prepared some changes for Central Russia and Ukraine
P.S. Also I think new Map need some deers in the Russian North and one other hand - much more oil in the Siberia and Far East territories

So I got a bit crazy with Africa here. It's a bit resource dense in some places but mostly just added food and happiness items. This includes some suggested resources to add but mostly resources to spawn... plus even the resources that are indigenous might spawn later because they weren't developed until the colonial era or later. I'm thinking most would spawn late 1800s or early 1900s. I wasn't exactly sure when Cotton in the Sahel should spawn or if it should be there from the beginning. Does anyone know?

I added olives in the Sahara as a replacement for dates there. I added potatoes to represent potatoes, yams and cassava important staples in modern Africa. I added copper in Zambia but I think that's the extent of my mineral add-ons.

Of course this is just a suggestion as the final Africa map is far from finished. Things would need to be tweaked.

As for my methodology. I looked at which countries produced large quantities of crops and commodities. Then I looked up maps of "[country] livelihood zones" to pinpoint the primary regions in which they produced these resources. Additionally, I looked at this map to fill in some of the gaps for less productive regions that still have substantial production of certain resources: https://fluswikien.hfwu.de/images/0/07/Africa-agricultural-resources-map.png

Also, does anyone know where to find the default save location for WorldBuilder saves in the game directory? I can't seem to navigate to it.

Also, I forgot to mention. If we're still considering future resources to add to the game. Consider "dates" as an important food and trade resource in the Middle East/North Africa, as well as "peanuts" as an important staple in Africa and even the American South.

Usually they are in Documents/My Games/BTS/Saves/Worldbuilder.

I have a couple more things to add for African resources: Kenya should have coffee and tea resources spawning around 1850-1900, and that Ethiopia should have wheat from the Ethiopian civ spawn, or earlier. My other suggestion is that there should be iron in the Congo basin

Yeah, I think considering Ethiopia would be the first civ to settle that region might as well just include wheat from the beginning. I also thought that Congo was a bit light on production resources but wasn't sure what I could add and where. Thought about copper further North that would only be unlocked with clearing rainforest but considering Congo already has copper there's no need. Maybe iron would be a good addition. It seems from a little research that Congo has produced iron tools for a long time and there is significant iron deposits up the Congo River a bit. Also, Kenya does have a coffee resource on the current map, the label isn't there on the screenshot though because it's close to the bottom of the screen. Adding a tea spawn sounds good.

Soy, peanuts or legumes could definitely be added to the game.

I don't know why I put Millet in Ethiopia, it should be Wheat.

California:
Oil on the Los Angeles tile to represent California's historically massive oil production,
Wine on the tile North of the river it needs wine to represent Napa, and the state's major wine production.
Rice on the Northern San Joaquin Valley Tile
Crab north of San Francisco, California has a major shellfish industry
Fish, California needs two fish south of San Francisco and workable by Los Angeles both to represent the major fishing industry and help California reach its historical population.
Livestock, it might also be worth giving California a cow as it is know for its milk production

Elephants on a wooded plain tile near Sur, just to add a hammer or even build a camp.
They should disappear before anyone has riding. There was a large elephant population in that area which went extinct from hunting between -1500 and -1000; so its only use would be a very limited production bonus for Babylon or Phoenicia, and possibly happiness for several turns in Marathon games. If there are plans for a deer resource in the area, you could even switch the disappearing elephants for deer, which would go extinct much later, maybe around CE.
