[Development Thread]WW1 Mod: Blood and Iron

Excusse me, I don´t wanna make this thread go off topic, so please don´t start a discussion about this:

but for everyone who can´t wait for some WW1 action, go here:

http://armorgames.com/play/2267/warfare-1917

this is a free flash WW1 tactics game with a punch of action. It is well done and fun to play for a short while.

cheers

This mod looks great. In fact i made a civfanatics account just to comment on it.

Just a question, is it going to have, mobile machine guns like the canadians used in the battle of vimmy ridge? (I'm Canadian myself and were learning about WWI in socials right now). The mobile machine guns were machine guns mounted on motorbikes that had sidecars.

Cool game, nice animations.

Sorry for not being no lately been really busy but I'm gonna start the map you can use it if you want don't have to but I'll make it just the same! Keep up the good work guys! And stay safe Smitty!!

Hi! This mod looks absolutely awesome! I really hope you guys can finish it!

I also created an account here just to comment in this thread..

And I haven't even properly played CivIV yet.. looks a bit too generic for my liking. But with this mod it could hit a double jackpot, some historic detail and oh! WW1 setting finally!:)

BTW for those looking for WW1 action, an RTS called Empires: Dawn of the Modern World had a good-looking WW1 setting (units-wise at least), though the gameplay was pretty arcade.

OK - Another previews made by Smitty.

Ah WW1 the long forgotten war for gaming industry... Cant believe it took this long to see this thread...
Thoose models and all look awesome :goodjob:
But i was wondering one thing and that was why is ottoman empire counted as minor nation and Italy as major? I think they both should be major.

Thanks guys, glad you like the preview. Big thanks to asio for posting for me on the thread when I can't.

For those of you wondering when I get back - it's not too much longer. I should be back in the states sometime in December.

The mod is pretty much near enough done from my end. This is the part where I have to beg for some help - the additional code support. I know a lot of you have offered help, now especially is the time I need it. The XML is nearly done, as is almost all of the required artwork. Just the following bits of existing code need to be added (at a minimum):

-Ranged bombardment (Dale)
-Route restrictions
-Bombing missions (Dale)
-Trench graphics code - allows improvement to make feature automatically
-Recon missions interceptable

There's more that I'd like, but to make the basic game playable the above is required.

That's actually a feature of the Wolfshanze Mod... it's a SDK thing... Xeno put it into my Wolfshanze Mod gamecore DLL.

I was trying all last night to upload this preview, but the internet in this country is so slow that it was impossible. So I stopped by this morning to give it another shot. Here it is - another 'must have' unit finished:

Exactly, which is why it shouldn't be that hard for any of the many coders out there to just compile the code. Asio was able to send be 3.17 in a bunch of smaller downloads I could get at work through email - I'm sure the same could be done for the SDK work. Or, I could just wait until December. It's not that far off.

Love the mod Snafu and really hope it gets done.

Here's my two cents, don't want to bring the whole trench debate up again but on the topic knowing a few things about world war one, could we heve barbed wire in the game as a river like feature and a penelty for attacking across as well as a promotion "wire cutter" or "banglore torpeado" (wire cutting device) and make tanks and heavy units ingnore the issue altogether would it be possible to have units create or destroy them (probably not do-able as that probably is python) the issue is that on larger maps the deatail will get blurred. Could we perhapps have maps for different battles (Cer, Marne, Somme, Ypres, Gallipoli...) I could do that I've got the time to make maps like that, any way I can help.

WW1 is a world war, and there's a great lack of non-european nations Units, but they still participte to the war :

- Japanese early dreadnough, japanese early fighter, & japanese imperial troops,

- chinese republican troops, (at war with Germany)

- colonial troops (asian, african, hindu, north african)

- foreign troops (canadian, australian, n.zeland troops)

- and Italian WW1 units, like a biplane.

And maybe Bolshevik troops, early infantry, machinegun, early armored car, biplane.
