DG02 - A Fascist Variant Game

save

Pre-Turn
wake up some lazy buggers to work on lumbermills
mil count 71 units and 16 cities, well I guess we need 10 more turns for mil build up
I also think we do need some Cavs to fight
reduce lux to 0% and incerease science to 70%

1. 1455AD
decide to sell caesar a tech for 910gold that we might want to use to upgrade our knights to fight India

4. 1470AD
rush bank in Thermo
75 units now

5. 1475AD
Mil Trad comes in, steel for cannons next
upgrade a bunch of knights to Cav

6. 1480AD
cancel all deals with India
declare war and take out 2 units for a start
move in at 3 locations

IT India attacks with a knight but loses :)

7. 1485AD
we are hit by WW already, sisn't even lose a unit???
bomb Karachi, suicide 2 cats
defeat 2 units and Karachi is ours
dg21485.jpg

move to Calcutta and Madras

mil check: 17 cities 75 units, still ok

8. 1490AD
bomb both cities, do not want to waste units here

IT defeat 2 rifles at Madras

9. 1495AD
autoraze Kolhapur in the south but lose a grenadier there
bomb Calcutta, suicide 2 cats, lose a Cav, but capture town
bomb Madras to 0%, attack with lousy odds but am really lucky to defeat and retreat
dg21495.jpg

Madras has the Notre Dame :)

take out 2 grenadiers with Cavs in the field
renegotiate banana to hatty for 12gpt instead of 4gpt

19 cities and 73 units, we need more cities to be able to attack again

IT lose an exposed Cav

10. 1880AD
get 2 more Cavs so mil count is 19/74 which is still 2 units short of taking more cities
maybe we should simply go for peace once India agrees.
I hope with steel will can overpower hatty with cannons, we'll get it in 8

a scary graph, this is power
dg21500.jpg

Man, that's one runaway Hatty! I'll get to this tomorrow with any luck - we're definitely going to have to do something about her sooner rather than later :)

 If a graph looks like this, it is usually me who's in Hati's position. Rarely see an AI in that position. Peace with Ghandi and a buildup against Hati sounds like a good plan to me.

I'll have to be skipped for this game, possibly for some time - my graphics card's just died on me :( I doubt I'll be replacing it with anything capable of running Civ 4 for a while; I'll probably get a cheap one to tide me over and upgrade to a new motherboard at the same time when I get chance. I'll be checking in to see how you're getting on, though.

Sorry, guys - this game appears to be cursed, everyone's dropping (out) like flies.

That's the second graphic card casulty in this game. :( A real bummer, Beef!
I suppose that makes it my turn then. Got it and will play tomorrow.

Wow! with 2 people left, this will be a quick SG!

Inherited Turn:
74 units, good for 18 cities. We have 19. Looks like i'll get a builtup turnset. I dial up Ghandi, but he's still mad at us. Monti and Ghandi are the only ones with any income left. I decide to take Monti's 4gpt for some silk.

*enter*

1: Grenadier kills Indian Rifle. Nice job. We get a new grenadier and a pult, so we are at 76 units now. Take out an indian rifle and elephant with no casulties.

2:
77units/19 cities. Ghandi is ready to talk now, but ready ready to give up his techs for peace. Your call, buddy.

4:
80 units. Enough for one more city. Hopefully Ghandi is ready to part with some techs after that.

5:
Our stack draws catapult fire on the way to Bangalore. We are at 81 units. Gold is discovered near Delphi!

6:
84 units.

7:
We learn Steel.85 units.
Battle for Bangalore:
Catapult dies.
Catapult dies.
Grenadier takes out Rifleman.
Heck.. odds are still bad for our cavalry. I sacrifice another pult.
Cav withdraws.
Cav takes out grenadier.
Cav takes out rifle and the city is ours!
82 units now. I dial up Ghandi. Can't even get rifling out of him. :(
Oh well, we really should focus on Hati. I take peace for Ghandi's remainding money.

Ghandi is 3CC, but hati is a threat, as usual. One stack of units is waiting south of London, and one is waiting in Calcutta. I think we should wait a little longer, gven the defenses in Memphis. Several of our cities are in high risk of flipping, though.
Good luck!

---------->The Save<----------

save

we aren't in the position to fight just yet, we need more cannons
built up more units, got us rifling from caesar after our steel monopoly was gone
we got steam and have 3 sources of coal
built the national epic in Timbuktu since it generates a lot of GP points
(it will giev us another GP which could be used for a GA)
Bangalore went into a revolt already though I rushed theatre and library

I left all unit unmoved, if you feeling daring enough we can start war this turn and strike
at Byblos, I would raze the town. We have a lot of units in Calcutta which seems like a target

I don't know whether we can use steam as a bait to get anyone else to declare, doesn't seem likely but you could try
we do have 100 units now

Inherited Turn:
Nobody can be persuaded to join us againt hati.
Ghandi has a defensive pact with Hati!
That and our variant restrictions keep me from declaring.

5:
We spawn an great artist. I'm going to use it on a golden age.

10:
We learn Railroad. I go for combustion. Feel free to change.

I used our Golden Age mostly for units - a sin, i know. But i felt it was necessary, as we will have to fight on two fronts.
Scouting revealed, that Hati has quite a few cavalries. For them, i built riflemen. I don't think Ghandi will post much of a threat, but he'll bind units up north.
We can now trade technologies with Caesar, i didn't do it, but i think we should. Our foreign relations are bad and if we declare on Hati, Caesar probably will refuse to trade with us.
There is no way we can get anybody to declare on either Ghandi nor Hati. The only thing we can do, is ask Hati to declare on Toku. While that would be nice, we can't offer her much in return.

You have about 5 turn of the GA left. I think we should go to war after it ends the latest. Possibly earlier.
---------->The Save<----------

good thing you realized that they have a pact, I didn't, shame on me.

Ok, I will bite the bullet and attack during my turns. It was a good call to use the GA for units, we will need them if we fight Hatty.

save

Pre-Turn
acquire liberalism and consitution and 300gold from Caesar
this opens up new techs next turn, will wait for that until I declare war on Hatty

1. 1652AD
check trades again, get sci methods from Cyrus for steam and his 660gold
we now have 1250gold, sell WM to Toku for 200gold
decide to attack now, we do not have the time to wait any longer
count our military: 118 units, 19 cities

cancel all deals and declare on Hatty, Gandhi declares on us in return
need to increase lux to 20% due to the Indian war declaration, this is utter nonsense in my mind
attack Byblos, lose 2 cannons and 2 Cavs, but take that hard nut

dg021652.jpg

I go and dig in awaiting for the fierce response

IT the first repsonse is lighter than expected, we defeat 3 and retreat 1 Cav at Calcutta

2. 1654AD
defeat a pillager pair, but lose a rifle in the process
defeat the wounded Cav near, there is a stack of 6 Cav, 2 cannons and 1 grenadier next to it
decide to suicide 2 cannons to wound those units

IT go 2:0 at Calcutta, a small pillager stack in India gets attacked and we go 5:2

3. 1656AD
defeat a stray cannon lux still at 20%
defeat retreated Cav and notice another big stack approaching
dg021656.jpg

decide to upgrade 2 muskets to face the stack at Calcutta

we also need to weaken the attackers, attack with 3 cannons to take out 2Cavs, the rest is heavily wounded
and taken care of by us , leave a lone wounded cannon there

defeat a grenadier and pillage Egypts copper
trade again with Cyurs, give him RR for corporation and democracy

IT game crashes...reload
we might lose this game as a rain of units comes at us at Calcutta
we go 16:9 with 5 added retreats by Egypt, India drops some units next to Karachi

4. 1658AD
well the few units turn out to be 9 attackes against 2 defenders at Karachi
upgrade both units in Karachi in a desperate effort to save the city

take out 6 wounded Cavs at Calcutta, Egypts power is rapidly declining
suicide a cat to wound units
we now have 103 units

IT luckily the Egyptian seem to take a break, only 2 cannons attack
India bites the bait I put in the form of a musket near Karachi and we go 1:1, Karachi still stands

5. 1660AD
our GA is over and we need to run 30% lux, not really funny
we need to run 40% lux by now, I really hate Civ4 WW model, it makes warfare so difficult
take out 2/8 Indian units at Karachi

move in to Egypt from the south at Pi-Rameses, I hope all the units are in the north, so we should be able to take them on in the south

IT we go 1:1 against Egypt and India suicide 4 units at Karachi but defeats a rifle
their navy moves in and we start to starve

6. 1662AD
move on to Pi-Rameses, decide to take that town and then go for peace, we need to take out India forst to get rid of that pest

7. 1664AD
move on to Pi-Rameses

IT Egypt still has some units to throw at us

8. 1666AD
battle at Pi-Rameses
take out defenses, suicide 2 cannons
dg021666.jpg

now I wonder, we can make peace with Egypt, but India does not want to talk to us, what will happen then?
Hatty gives us 1100gold for peace, I don't mind that

I notice that Gandhi and Hatty have no longer that pact, we can go for them now and take them out

9. 1668AD
march on to Bombay, India has only 3 cities left, we should be able to take them out

10. 1670AD
Cavs arrive at Bombay, that is not too heavily defended, big stack is a tile behind
I am sure we should be able to take those 3 cities

dg021670a.jpg

Egypt suffered more than we did, at least
dg021670b.jpg

I have been RR a line from the south to our core and now connect the east
combustion in 3, maybe we can trade for biology
we do have 21 cities and 106 units, enough to take out India (do not forget to draft every time Thermopylea grows)

That read made for a real nailbiter! Excellent work! I'll try to finish off Ghandi asap and then turn back to Hati, while she is still out of gas.

Inherited Turn:
106 units -> 26 cities. We have 21.
Sparta needs a health building.
Hati could pay 12 gold for spices, but i think we'll be back fighting her soon. Wouldn't be worth the 10 turn restriction.
Nothing else to do.

*enter*

2:
Ghandi shows up with an empty galleon. Sigh, have fun tearing up our fishing nets.
I foolishly lose a rifleman while trying to attack Bombay. THought i had selected a catapult.
Well the catapult i eventually manage to select survives its suicide mission. A grenadier goes down next. Not my lucky day.
We take the city without further losses.
bom5am.jpg

3:
Combustion comes in. I go for assembly line, as nobody has it yet.

6:
Aztec revolt in Pi-Ramses. Bah.

7:
Lose a cav against a stray grenadier.

8:
HOLY /(%(/%! Delhi is full of units! Ghandi kills 3 cav, losing about 6 rifles. Where did those units come from?
I send in two catapults, one survives.
A cannon goes in and dies. The city still has a dozen denfers left. That forces me to sacrifice another cannon. It survives and takes out a unit!
We take the city without further casulties.
Civ ate my screenshot despite me hammering "Print" like mad.

10:
Hati offers open borders. I refuse. Cyrus offers astronomy for combustion. Yeah... get real.

In hindsight, i should have taken the 12gp/t deal. Oh well. Ghandi was suprisingly difficult to beat down, but i hope his last city doesn't hold as nasty suprises as Dheli did. I have never seen a city so strongly defended on this difficult level. Bombay is deep in Persian territory already. It will probably flip. I fear the remaining indian cities will fare no better. :(
Good luck! :)
---------->The Save<----------

got it, I think it is best to simply raze cities that are close to the enemy borders and let the AI build new towns so we can take them later. It's not wise to get all those cities flipped.
If Pi-Rameses flips to Monte, no issue as I think we can take him out in few turns. I rather it flips to him than Hatty.

save

Pre-Turn
move a cav to hill next to Lahore to check units in there, 5 of them left
mil check 115 units = 28 towns, we have 23 cities
increase lux to 20%
whip theatre in Calcutta to fight off the culture pressure
sell Ceasar our map for 160gold :)

I am thinking that we should fight Cyrus next to get rid of all the culture pressure

1. 1692AD
move units next to Lahore

IT lose a caravel at Vandal, luckily those caravels can't rip fishing nets
we get education

2. 1694AD
attack Lahore, 4 cats are enough to bomb defenses to 0% (actually ridiculous concept)
2 cannons attack, one dies, of course lose a Cav at 76% odds
take Lahore for 148gold, no culture pressure, thus keep city, but India is still alive

time to make peace then, get WM and nothing else, too bad. We find that India has a city overseas
culture down to 0% and no for war preparation for Cyrus

set up for war against Cyrus, this little diversion for culture-ease will hopefully not backfire

3. 1696AD
declare war on Cyrus, march into his territory in the north

IT Cyrus attacks especially Bombay and loses 8 units but defeats 3

4. 1698AD
since Baombay is under huge pressure with only 1 unit left inside, attack Bangalore without bombardment
it works as we los 2 cavs but defeat 2 rifles to take city. We can now reinforce Bombay easily
take out 4 stray units near Bombay
get open borders with Egypt to take out a Cav from Cyrus that wants to go after our core
find out that Pi-Rameses has flipped to Monte

IT this time lose a rifle and Cyrus has artillery

5. 1700AD
defeat 5 stray units, but lose a suicide cannon
move units next to Gordium

IT Cyrus seems to have more units than expected as he throws more at us defeating 2 units, but he also loses 2

6. 1702AD
Gordium has only 2 defenders but 1 is a sam battery
we seem to be far behind in techs, need to suicide 2 cannons
take Gordium and our rid-of-culture war is almost over and done

IT quieter now from Cyrus

7. 1704AD
last goal is to raze Arbela, move on to it

IT we finally get assembly line

8. 1706AD
Delhi is online, whip a theatre there due to unhappiness
spot a SOD next to delhi, since Cyrus has almost identical colors I almost missed that
need to attack that stack, manage to take out 7/9 units for the loss of 1 cannon

IT Persia surely ran out of steam by now

9. 1708AD
attack Arbela, lose cannon and rifle
burn city and Bombay looks far better now
take out southern city but lose 3 Cavs

10. 1710AD
Cyrus loses 2 Sams against us

we did suffer losses and have currently 109 units only with 25 cities.
Cyrus refuses to talk to us, I think we should go for a breather once he offers peace
we have a stack moving towards Pasergadae, alos pillaged some tiles

we did get a Great Artist which is near our capital at the moment

we could get 2280gold and astronomy from Egypt for assembly line, I was reluctant to give it to her though
we don't want to face infantry but might have no choice

dg021710.jpg

according to the graph, Egypt is picking up in power again, while Cyrus dropped a lot

SAM infantry? Oh dear... I wish, pointy stick research would still work. Both hati and Cyrus are dangerous researchers, so i am not sure whom to turn to next. Probably hati, if she continues to catch up in score.
Got it

Inherited Turn:
109 Units -> 27 cities. We have 25.
Take out two catapults next to Dheli.
Foreign relation situation is boring. No trade opportunites of any kind.

*enter*

1:
Artillery attacks us at Calcutta, but the defender hold out.
Take out a stray infantry.
Cyrus is ready for peace, offering all he's got with the exception of techs and cities. Basically, he's offering us nothing.

3:
Artillery fails to take Calcutta. Will Cyrus ever learn?
Battle for Pasargarde:

Suicicde catapult survives.
Suicide catapult dies.
Suicide cannon dies.
Our odds are 50/50 now.
Cavalry takes out rifle.
Cavalry takes out SAM.
Cannon takes out rifle.

pasar1sa.jpg

The city is ours! I keep it for the incense.
Now what to do?
Cyrus still refuses to give up a single tech. It's laughable.
I decide to keep the pressure on him and go for his capital next.

5:
We learn Facism. I am not sure baout the rules, but i think we were supposed to revolt into Police State as soon as it came along. Doing that now. Are we allowed Free Religion? Free sound fishy to me, i decide to stay in paganism for now.

7:
Two cavs die in artillery attacks. We are streched thin on infantry. One persian artillery dies against a grenadier.
The offending artilleries get disabled.
Someone is in emancipation already and we suffer unhappiness from it. +4 thus far.

8:
Battle for Persepolis:
2 suicide catapults and one suicide cannon soften up the defenders.
A grenadier takes out a rifle.
A cavalry dies against a rifle. :(
A rifle takes otu a rifle.
Infantry takes out a rifle.
A cavalry takes out a artillery.
A cavalry takes out a SAM.
The persian capital is ours!
The loot money allows us another turn at 60% research. (We are making -201/gpt)

I decide to march onward to Susa, in order to drive Cyrus from thenorthern part of the continent. (Susa should be razed, due to vincinity to Rome)

9:
We get a great engineer. I suggest we use him to build Mnt. Rushmore, but i'll leave that to you to decide.

There is a huge amount of our army next to Susa. Taking it should be easy as pie. In Calcuta, you'll find another large stack of unmoved units. They could either head to the remaining Persian city or spearhead an assault on Egypt (whom we should go after next, i think)
Persia still has a large navy including a destroyer. That's about the only thing, they have left, though. Cyrus still refuses to part with a single tech. God, the diplomatic system makes me roll me eyes sometimes.

---------->The Save<----------

Because we fight a lot, we have nobody left to trade with. Silly system. Maybe instead of a tech we can get one of those overseas towns from Cyrus after taking Susa.

Anyway, Cyrus isn't a threat any longer, it's merely Egypt that's left for us to deal with again. It's a monster though.

Rushing Rushmore sounds good to me. We will fight for a long time and it will help us big time. I think the moment we declare on Egypt, WW will hit since we fought them before. Silly system.
