DGIT # 2-Krafty Koreans

Good idea, SolarKnight...
I think we can wait and build up a sizable army, then the second they hit Chivalry, we zoom in and pillage all their horses... That is, provided their horses are within reach... Otherwise we should not wait too long...

Pre turm-all looks good.
The horses are near the Mongol capital, hopefully that's their only source.

I investigate the 4 closest Mongol cities. Most are defended by 1-2 spearman. The mongols are also broke. Based on these facts, I declare war since we have a nice stack of 10 swords with many more units on the way.
As an added bonus, we get Engineering from GL.

The Save

Comments-

I may have jumped the gun attacking Mongolia but I figured that their city defenses are weak, they are broke, and they have a desperately needed luxury. I couldn't believe that we were at 30% luxuries. Anyways, we have Knights building as we speak so I think Mongolia should be arelatively easy push over. After we take their core of cities, I think a break will be in order so we can switch goverments.

As I mentioned above, we need a solid road network between our cities to minimize the number of turns our units need to get up the continent.

We have about ten units hanging out near our new Ivory deposit, plus two more poised to attack the southern Mongol city.

I have more to say, but we can discuss it inbetween the turns, because I'm sure you all have comments. I'm kind of miffed that we still have the same number of cities, and the only reason for that is because of that culture flip. Sumeria will face our wrath soon enough.

Nice turns, even though you probably should have waited a couple turns before declaring (they weren't gonna get any better defended or wealthier...)
We should switch to Monarchy ASAP, then proceed to whipe out Mongolia and Sumeria.
It may be a good idea if we use the twenty turns break with mongolia to take on sumeria...

It was only a matter of time before Suriwon flipped. No real big surprise. It will be a Korean city again before long anyhow. :hammer:

Looks like a good turn. I'll probably try and take the Mongol iron city and then hold on a bit, building the road network. Maybe I'll switch govs, but I'll check the situation first. Almarikh is going to be a flip risk, as it had a decent amount of culture in it. I'll probably try and starve it down.

Anyway, I'll download the save tonight. I probably won't have a chance to play for a day or two, so everyone chime in...

Remember guys, if we want space, we will have to revolt soon, or we may never be able to get into the modern era in time.

(remember the tech pace in the roman game :( (shudder)):vomit:

Yeah, we need to go Monarchy ASAP, or we're done for. We're going to be some what okay until Education, but we really need those bonuses, or all our hard work with our workers is for naught. Guys, to let ya know I'm going to be gone from the 30th through the 7th, so if my turn comes up in that period, just skip me.

So many comments a bit ago, now no one has anything to say. hehehe... Go crazy on Mongolia SpikeIt. If things get waaaay to hot, then make peace, try and get a few small cities, and we'll be good.

Pre turn. Forces around Almarkh look strong. I can't envision the Mongols putting together a great force. Diplo shows they have no iron. Darhan is it! :D We will take.

We are building a lot of military in west where we already have defenses. And no rax. But Sun Tzu in 1 so all is good. Will switch off of some military in west to increase productivity of conquests. Defenses can be provided from the Korean core.

Also, thinking revolt soon. Pyongyang and Cheju should be powerhouses. We need to get those hills mined. These are strong cities. We have a worker building a road to nowhere that won't help. Moving him along. Heck, we only have 12 workers total (not including slaves)! We need more.

One side note. Northern Sumerian city of Kisurra has iron in its borders. Sumeria just became a bit more powerful.
Goal - continue slooow war with Mongols while maybe picking a time to revolt and building infrastructure a bit. Getting ivory connected. Maybe get a galley out.

Damaged troops pour into Ta-tu to heal.
Trebuchet bombards horse, knocking off a hp.
Elite MDI vs reg horse - wins.
Troop movement toward Karakorum.

Comments:
War with Mongols is moving along. We have the troops to keep pushing on even while in anarchy. We have taken Darhan, Ta-tu,and Tabriz. Anarchy is causing happiness trouble. Watch growing cities to readjust entertainers and taxmen. Seoul and Wonsan at least are going to lose a population point. I am starving down our new Mongolian conquests as well. Once Karakorum is conquered a lot of cultural pressure will be gone.

In three turns we'll be out of anarchy. Continue build up of cities. Libraries, courthouses, in the west. Military or marketplaces in the east. Continue building galleys.
The Byzantines and Sumerians are poor and have nothing to trade for our ivory or furs. Sumeria still doesn't have our iron connected yet.
Once we are out of anarchy, let's get some workers enhancing Pyongyang by mining the hills. Also, adjust sliders. They are turned down since useless in anarchy anyhow.

Down with the Mongols

The Mongolian killing field, er, front...
DGIT2_700AD_Front.jpg

Nice set, SpikeIt...
My only comment is it may have been better to sign temporary peace so we can have a peaceful revolution...
Probably not a critical point, but Anarchy at wartime is bad.

While usually I would agree, revolting during war in this case is not a problem. We easily already have the troops to carry on the war without the need for reinforcements, especially since the Mongols are already spent, sending each turn maybe a token unit or two.

I really don't see what signing peace would have garnered us, given the circumstances. I could have signed peace from which we would have gained nothing as the Mongols have nothing to give. And the Mongols may just strengthen themselves via tech trades and unit buildup. We may still sign peace at some point, but only when their remaining cities are on the northen stretch near the Byzantines.

Given the need to build infrastructure in our new colonies, and to build markets and such in our older territory, it seemed wise to revolt as soon as possible. The gains in corruption will be welcomed. Anything really to help afford keeping the people happy. I find it a bit disheartening that we likely have the only two luxuries on our continent.

Anyhow, in a few turns we'll likely have the Statue of Zeus, a few more cities, and a new government. Not too shabby. And we'll have the army to take it to Sumeria, hopefully before they connect their iron. All in the name of the space race, of course! :D

I aggree with SpikeIt. Since we went to war before we switched, It was either now or wait 15 turns. Peace with anyone now would be foolish. Our best bet would be to either wipe the contient clean before anyone else meets others... makes being dastardly a bit easier... or bring everyone down to just 1 city before gunpowder, which is closer then I'd like to think.

We may have to take a break from fighting and race for cavalry when Sumeria and the Byzantines get muskets...

Bite your tongue. Let's hope the only gunpowder around is Korean gunpowder! :D

Here's our order, just in case. -Oblivion- is up. Hopefully he's still around, he hasn't commented here or in the other SG I'm in with him in a while...

Or we can try this... Mongolia is next to gone. Why not declare on Byz, and let them try and wade through Summeria while we finish up Monglia. They'll be trying to wage war on us, not doing any research, and not be able to hit us with anything but their dromon. If we keep out of the sea, we won't trigger their GA. Summeria... Those Ekidu still make me nervous.... How many do they have left? Are they mostly in the Summerian core? Would we be able to do enough damage before we saw one that it won't matter if they have a GA or not? We gotta do something about them quickly though.

We're getting into the peroid of history where the AI usually grows leaps and bound, and the human gets left behind - (At least in my games) - as war is being waged. The best thing may be to get everyone going to war, and have no money going to any reasearch, all into military. We have a good solid core that can give us units fairly quickly. Produce military towards the west so we can send it towards the north, to finish off the Byz and Summerians, and keep what forces we have in Mongolia, maybe send one or two units up there per a turn to mop up and for MP.

It's a huge gambit, but we've seem to be taken them alot this game, and for a Space Race, we're still set up pretty well for conquest.:p

One last thing... I leave on Thursday and come back Sunday, so theres a chance I won't be able to play. Depending on how long it take Oblivion to claim it, I MIGHT be able to play. If you guys can wait til monday for me to grab it, and play it by tuesday, I won't need a skip, but if things get to hot and heavy, then let Smellincoffee grab it.

Conquest shmonquest! We want space! Its our destiny. Heck our Korean Trebuchet has already been tested and is ready to see how high we can launch one of our slaves. To the moon and beyond!

I don't think letting the Byzantines gear up is a wise move right now. We want the tech pace to progress. Its slow enough right now as it is. And if we are to quicken the pace, we don't want dromons drowning our suicide galleys. If we get our whole continent stuck in war, tech research will stop and we may find ourselves way behind when we contact the other civs out there.

I think we should crank out a suicide fleet, and the second we are in contact with atleast two new civs, we start to gear up for war with the Byzantines and Sumerians. We won't need them any more, as we will have new friends. :P

Alerum68,

If you have time today, I say go ahead and play. -Oblivion- hasn't posted anywhere since March 15. Once he checks back in we can put him back in the fold, but he's missing in a couple SG's now.
