So far so good. But its early yet. I'm only a couple turns in, but we've captured three new Sumerian cities and traded Sariwon back and forth (in our favor). And we now possess the Pyramids (were protected by 2 evil looking Sumerian longbowmen

) The Sumerians lost their source of horses (boohoo) and are about to lose their iron. No more pesky knights and pikes to deal with.
Regarding research - I've cranked back Education to single scientist. Its unlikely I'll get a successful galley out in my 10 turns as we've pretty much run out our luck directly east and west of our lands. The best spot for suicide is east of the Byzantine lands where the sea tiles seem to stretch out into the fog. It will likely take at least 20 turns to see any benefit from this. If it even pans out. I've sent at least one galley in pursuit of this. While I agree, it would be a shame to waste the GL, we can research Education in 4 turns, and can be on our ways out of the Middle Ages by the end of 20. We can also research toward Democracy and use it to trade for techs with our new contacts. (There I go again. Communism. Communism. Communi... ) Even if we fall behind a bit in tech, with our luxuries we should be able to trade our way to parity unless there is a runaway civ.
I was all for single scientist, but once I saw the save and our unsuccesful attempts without even a hint of sea, I became a bit discouraged. At least if the other civs are outresearching us, it will make the space race very interesting. Any thoughts?
Most likely I won't be posting the save until tomorrow night. My wife has a large project due in a month, so my time is limited while I play Mr. Mom to my 6 month old. But I should be able to squeeze it out by then. And I fully expect the Sumerian people to be fully productive citizens of the Korean nation by then.
