DGIT # 2-Krafty Koreans

Hello!

I apologise for my abscence, but my parents have been having some troubles, topped off by my 85 year old grandfather being involved in a car crash.

Anyway, im ready to get back into these succession games that i have missed large chunks of.

Thanks for your understanding

About research... I think we should really turn it off, and make a specialist in one of our ice-berg cities, at least until we are able to make contacts. All we have to wait for is contact with 2 other civs, and that should give us anything we're missing. 10 turns if we keep pumping out the galleys.

I agree 100% and plan to do just that on my watch. The GL still presents us with too great an opportunity to let go to waste. If we're not ahead, we are quickly falling behind the unknown civs. The GL will bring us back into the game.

Regarding the level... I agree. But I am looking forward to the Sumerian uprising I'll be facing. Heh.

:( I do hope it's not serious?

That's good.

I wonder how SpikeIt is faring against those Sumerian punks..

So far so good. But its early yet. I'm only a couple turns in, but we've captured three new Sumerian cities and traded Sariwon back and forth (in our favor). And we now possess the Pyramids (were protected by 2 evil looking Sumerian longbowmen :D) The Sumerians lost their source of horses (boohoo) and are about to lose their iron. No more pesky knights and pikes to deal with.

Regarding research - I've cranked back Education to single scientist. Its unlikely I'll get a successful galley out in my 10 turns as we've pretty much run out our luck directly east and west of our lands. The best spot for suicide is east of the Byzantine lands where the sea tiles seem to stretch out into the fog. It will likely take at least 20 turns to see any benefit from this. If it even pans out. I've sent at least one galley in pursuit of this. While I agree, it would be a shame to waste the GL, we can research Education in 4 turns, and can be on our ways out of the Middle Ages by the end of 20. We can also research toward Democracy and use it to trade for techs with our new contacts. (There I go again. Communism. Communism. Communi... ) Even if we fall behind a bit in tech, with our luxuries we should be able to trade our way to parity unless there is a runaway civ.

I was all for single scientist, but once I saw the save and our unsuccesful attempts without even a hint of sea, I became a bit discouraged. At least if the other civs are outresearching us, it will make the space race very interesting. Any thoughts?

Most likely I won't be posting the save until tomorrow night. My wife has a large project due in a month, so my time is limited while I play Mr. Mom to my 6 month old. But I should be able to squeeze it out by then. And I fully expect the Sumerian people to be fully productive citizens of the Korean nation by then. :hammer:

I think we need to decide right now if we wanna keep suiciding Gallies with mininmum research or if we want to go full steam ahead for Navigation/Magnetism.
Any way in between will be folly. Either way can work. Suicide Gallies are a matter of luck, the other way is safe unless our rivals are far far ahead - which they cannot be judging by the wonder situation.
I say we go full steam ahead. We've lost enough Gallies already, this ocean is obviously large, let's get moving.

I agree with Blasphemous. Let's take Education in four and go straight for Navigation and Magnetism, get into the next age, and maybe take a quick detour for Deomcracy.

Go for it, the longer we leave it, the worse our situation will be

Plus once we get democracy, our tech pace should skyrocket anyway with all the land we are acquiring

Noooo!
WE ARE NOT GOING TO BE NO STINKING CAPITALISTS!
COMMUNISM ALL THE WAY! Need I explain the reasons again?

Btw, you guys may be interested in joining my new SG... Link's in my sig.

I was just thinking that we could try using democracy until we get communism, surely the faster we get there, the more use we can get out of communal corruption.

I was also thinking that with democracy, with our increased commerce we could take a quick detour away from communism and research replacable parts, and then speed up our workers, enabling the more rapid development of our infrastructure, then once we were commie we would have a very firm foundation from which to launch us out into space.

SK, the reality is that the time we'll spend on Anarchy to Democracy is not worth it. When beelining correctly Communism isn't that far away from it, so we can get communism and then head straight for Replacable Parts at a reasonable speed.
Also remember - while in Democracy war will be very tricky. And we want to get this continent cleared asap.

Very good point Blasphemous, just an idea i had thats all

The group has spoken and the direction has been set. Education full speed ahead. :goodjob: But man, I'm going to miss pulling in 200gpt.

And yes, Communism, Communism, Communism. But even if we were thinking of pursuing Democracy, I'm sure we could clear off our continent before it became an issue. We're rolling now. :hammer:

Bleh, never mind, typed a question without thinking... Me = Stupid.

I aggree that if we haven't made contact with 30-40 turns of galleys we're not likely to anytime soon before navigation. The good news is neither are they, and we've already wiped out 3 of the civs in the game. That means they can't have much more tech then us unless they have alot of people they're in contact with, which is unlikely with 5 civs on our contient alone. We're playing regent so that means no AI bonuses, and we're a science driven civ, who I think, has killed 2 other science driven civs. What are they chaces there is even 1 more civ who is scientific left?
We were able to pull 2 or 3 obscure techs from the GL, so it was of some use... just to bad we weren't able to make contact sooner. Damn America for making us go to war so soon!

The AI wouldn't use suicide galleys, anyway. They've no concept of it. :)

If we're going to communism, we need to be thinking about Court Houses.

Just another update, so you all know I'm not asleep at the wheel. I'll post my log and save tonight when I'm home, but I'm pretty much done with my turns. Sumeria is only a footnote in the Encyclopedia of Korean History. Education is ours. Our army will make mince meat of the Babylonians (might as well finish them off as they still lack gunpowder!). Astronomy is only a few turns away.

And don't you worry. We have plenty of courthouses in our core and, at least on my watch, they have been a priority elsewhere. The great University push has begun as well.

In fact, I'm thinking, we are going to have to watch our culture. With all the universitys, cathedrals, temple, libraries and wonders, our biggest hindrance to winning via space would be our total culture. We have to watch out for the culture victory. Not an issue now, but....

SpikeIt, I'm quite sure Space Race is he only victory condition that is turned on.
And when you said Babylonians, I do hope you meant Byzantines. :P
