DI3 (Im back O_o) - Wonderless is Wonderful

Looks pretty good. Is that tile 1 NE of your nothern dot coastal or plains? If coastal I think we have a lnd bridge canal opportunity. Moving city ther allows us to locate a city on finger of land. See blue dots. Get the gems/cow tile first is a great idea, IMHO. That will keep France migrating away from marsh/jungle. Looks like we have a peninsula N all to ourselves with proper blocking. Hers my take on a dotmap to try and get more core cities. 7 of them. I would get the marsh/jungle last and get the producers up first. Sending a warrior S of France will probably get more contacts before it gets too congested in France.

Perhaps move gem city 1 SE if still on river.

I suggest we go to war with france as soon as they build two wonders. That way we can shock the world when we raze both of them and we have a reason to kill those french bastards

I like it! It fits the theme. How about this. We must declare when any of the civs builds a 2nd wonder?

That'll be an unnofficial rule, sometimes that'll be suicidal but let's try to follow it most of the time.

Um...maybe we want to change that settler build to a granary to aid our growth in the long run? I don't really see the benefit to getting another settler and leaving our city at 1 pop point.

I think the reason the choice was made was to set the second city up to create settlers and guarantee the gems. On reflection you may very well be right. The second city will only have a cow grassland and another grass to work. Also, until expansion, we are not guaranteed the gems with that site. If 1 SE is on river I would definately switch to that location. If we don't switch a pop rushed temple will be in order and hope the French don't pop in 1S of gems or we're screwed. I'm liking granary with, if forest, a chop to assist and open up a tile. I can't tell if the tile 1S1SW of capital is forest or jungle.
Nice point Yom!

I believe it's forest, I'd check the save but if I load it up I'll get addicted and play my 20 turns now and I have to do my homework before 10. :(

The second city will grow every 5 turns without granary, when the cow is irrigated. Granary in Kyoto should come after the first settler.

Btw, that is an inland lake I think, so the new dotmap is quite nice.

IBT : Check everything out, hmmm Ill just use the dotmap from before for city spots. The yellow dot to the nrorth is better off on the blue dot because it's a lake. Prefs are changed to my liking ;)

Turn 1 : Settler is done, he's going south fer the winter :D Switch to a granary; I believe in fast expansion. Incense north of the ivory at top ^_^ Will be a nice spot. I use warrior to south west to scout north shroud and Ill return the other guy up to protect our second establishment. (I Have nightmares where the comp attacks undefended cities eek) Writing is ok with me, if we get either GLs Ill be happy :)

IBT : Nothing much

Turn 2 : I start irrigating the cows, food before commerce I always say. Check up on france. Bastards are insulted by 31 gold and 2 gpt >_> Damn them! Oh well I hope we get writing before them. Move warrior north west and I find a Korean warrior. Why hello there! Get masonry for The Wheel + 8 g. Than Ceremonial burial for 50 gold (no deals for Warrior code). Double back to france and 2 GPT + 73 gold is close to a deal. Too bad it's all our cash. =\ I realize Kyoto is undefended and decide to make two warriors before a granary. I dunno if this'll be a good or bad move. I want to defend the city (as well as have the MP) and pop that goody hut. Plus there might be some mighty fine land to the east. Plus Korea is to the far west, I doubt they'll put anymore pressure on us than France. We can always gain land I lose us in war! Roar.

IBT : Nothing

Turn 3 : Move some units around; my calculation was incorrect; Korea is actually extremely close! I see a sliver of their border. Ill post a screeny next turn when I have more land scouted.

IBT : Dot dot dot

Turn 4 : Osaka founded, Warrior being built than granary (or maybe a worker, Im not sure at this point.) Warrior moved in for protection. Goody hut spotted to the north :)

IBT : Kyoto : Warrior -> Warrior than granary.

Turn 5 : Never mind Warrior -> Granary; THE FRENCH POPPED THE EASTERN HUT! GRRRRRRR THEY WILL PAY WITH THEIR WONDERS! Kyoto switched to granary.

IBT : ...

Turn 6 : Northern goody hut pops barbs; oh joy... Spud's in fer some smashin time. We have +5 gpt now O_o Ill check fer deals. Frenchies offer Warrior code for 3 GPT and 60 gold. I take it, we have 2 GPT left and our treasury isnt that empty now. I learn that they also have horseback riding... -_- oh well so much for tech parity early on. France ahead of Korea and us in Tech race.

IBT : Spud is ravaged by barbarians and becomes a veteran! Woot *celebrate* Nothing else much happens.

Turn 7 : Empty turn just movement, we find coast to the north though.

IBT : la la la

Turn 8 : Same as above, the northern tip is pretty thick (that sounds so dirty :D)

IBT : Osaka Warrior -> Temple (Due in 15) I have big plans for this city, when it expands it'll have 3 tropical fruit and a cattle in range :) Also it'll secure the gems for us.

Turn 9 : Nothing! Road is soon going to be complete between our cities, than I connect gems.

IBT : ...

Turn 10 : BAD NEWS! A gem mountain to the far west. Boo this sucks! D:

IBT : zip zero zilch

Turn 11 : Northern tip of the continent discovered... nothing else. Hmmm at -1 gpt we can get writing in 28 turns... 41 gold in the treasury... time to calculate... france is going down the war path (probably researches polytheism next) and korea is behind... if this gets pulled off it'll give us a tech that we can sell at a high price :) I take the risk, it seems sound enough.

IBT : zzz

Turn 12 : O_O There's another landmass north of us! A coastal city would be nice... Granary and temple due in 7.

IBT : zzzz

Turn 13 : A LONE SPICE TO OUR EAST! I SHALL CAPTURE IT MWAHAHAHA *cough* Oh yeah; I had a little brain fart... instead of connecting the gems I went back to Kyoto and am going to mine another bonus grassland. Sorry guys, but hey! We wont need it for a while... will we?

IBT : Nothing

Turn 14 : Exploration

IBT : Nothing!

Turn 15 : More exploration...

IBT : Wang calls us because I slipped a warrior into his territory. I apoligize and move on (if I declared war would I screw us all? :D) WTH HE HAS IRON WORKING AND HORSEBACK!?! Unpossible?!?

Turn 16 : Well.. we cant get any of the techs from either civ... at least I know they both arent going writing.

IBT : la la la

Turn 17 : No events, kinda boring, granary and temple due in 2.

IBT : La la la

Turn 18 : Civil disorder because I'm a disruptive idiot =\ I didnt realize osaka grew already! I SWEAR! Re-adjusted luxuries. I didnt realize it had the growth potential. Eastern coast is found, you'll see in the screenies.

IBT : Kyoto : Granary -> Settler woot Temple due in 1 thanks to me in Osaka. Or is it? O_o Apparently it finishes anyway with no lost turns. O_o odd. Osaka Temple -> Settler Why not granary? Well the next player can change it anyway but I want to grab those spices AND get at least one of the northern luxuries. Especially the ivory so we can build SoZ and wage war with a bit of a boost from ancient cavalry.

Turn 19 : We are at -2 gpt so I lower the tech rate so we are at +0, even if we miss writing won't it make it cheaper to buy? I dunno >_< Some more explorin finds a barb camp to the north on a hill... will spud be able to defeat the barbs? Tune in to the next turn of DI3 Wonderless is Wonderful!!!

IBT : Nothing, Korea does hurt the encampment though.

Turn 20 : More explorin, thats it. Screenies are up next.

No wonders permitted  I'll miss them but if we can't have any neither can they. They will perish if they get any!

I think we will get more settlers in the long run if we get a granary up and running in Osaka. The only risk is that we may lose the ivory. Microbes call, but I feel with a pop around 4-6 we get more shields and building any unit will be easier.
We probably want to throw a city up to block Korean expansion to the east. It's almost starting to look like a palace jump may be in order down the line. If we can continue expansion north we can jump palace somewhere near the lake later. Looks like S and E is all marsh. Koreans look like our first to kill off. A 5 archer rush with 2 -3 spear back up might be nice.

I forsee much warring in our future...

We should probably expand to the North and West first and settle in the jungle spots later (they'll be useful later on, and if France settles them, they'll be easily captured because of their low shield production). I vote we expand aggressively towards the Koreans first and leave France for now.

Lets own the north! Better lands for us and we need that. The jungle and marsh we can wait on until France clears it for us. No sense letting our workers do that arduous task. Lets get the lake area and move the palace with our 1st leader.

Remember guys, they have Iron Working; we have to get that tech or we're going to be behind. Horseback riding would be great too if we are going to have long range wars. After iron working is acquired we can redo our planning to accomodate any iron sources.

Pre-turn: check around.

We are researching sci at 40% and Writing due in 25 turns. Decrease it to 10% and still due in 25 turns???

Lux is 10% - decrease to 0 and everybody is content. Now income increases from 0 to +5.

Diplo: we know France and Korea. France has IW and HBR, so does Korea. Nothing we could do here.

We have a granary in Kyoto, settler due in 5 turns. Osaka is also building a settler, I change it to granary, due in 11 turns - but I'll whip it as soon as possible.

I switch off "Always negotiate deals" - folks, let's be careful with this. This could especially backfire for peace treaty. The correct way is to always watch it out - but decide manually whether to renegotiate or not.

Everything else is good. Press enter.

(1) 2110BC: Kyoto grows, lux raised to 10% again. Warrior in the north tries to fight the barb, but we got 25g without a fight? Guess during last turn it attacked the Korean warrior and lost.

IBT: People admire me so much that we expand our palace. Aztec builds Pyramids.

(2) 2070BC: exploring..

IBT: Osaka expands border - we built a temple here? We should have built a barracks or granary first.

We don't need that much happiness for now and now we have to pay maintenance for it.

(3) 2030BC: exploring.. Both Korea and France have Writing!! We ought to meet more civs. I continue Writing anyway.

(4) 1990BC: Settler is finished in Kyoto, continue on settler. Lux drop to zero.

IBT: Thucydides completes history:

1990BC-history.jpg

(5) 1950BC: zzz

(6) 1910BC: On sight of bab camp to the location that I want to move my settler, so the warrior has to leave Kyoto to escort it. Switch Kyoto to warrior due next turn. As a result lux raised to 10% temporarily.

IBT: France has Mysticism but not Korea! However we couldn't afford it. :( But Korea is broke too, so he will not be able to get it any time soon.

(7) 1870BC: Kyoto completes warrior, continues on settler. I whip granary in Osaka (20 shields).

IBT: A korean warrior kills a barb, but two more babs show up.

(8) 1830BC: Osaka starts worker - we need to connect the Gems. I found Tokyo, starts a rax. This will be our military city.

(9) 1790BC: zzz

(10) 1750BC: Korean warrior clears the barb camp for us. I switch the rax in Yokyo to Curragh - we really need contact!

(11) 1725BC: zzz

(12) 1700BC: we now can afford Mysticism by 124g+9gpt! But it will eat up all our gold and income, and since we are building settlers the income is not stable. I'll hold.

(13) 1675BC: Osaka builds worker switchs to rax. Kyoto builds settler continues on settler. Korea has Mathematics! But now we cannot afford Mysticism since with settler/worker our income dropped from

11gpt to 5gpt..

(14) 1650BC: Korea and France didn't trade between themselves..both hold monopoly on one tech. Our world ranking is above France. :)

(15) 1625BC: the west warrior keeps exploring..the other two return home - blocked by Korea and France.

IBT: two barbs attack our warrior in the west and promote it.

(16) 1600BC: Tokyo builds curragh, starts another one. The curragh is sent to the south. Warrior clears barb camp and redlines. Geez, we haven't met anyone else for such a long time.

(17) 1575BC: Osaka builds rax and starts worker. West worrior meets..France again!

(18) 1550BC: Satsuma is founded to claim the ivory. I start a temple right away. MM Osaka to hire a scientist otherwise we would have to raise lux to 30% - worker still due in 1 turn. Hmm, Kyoto will produce settler in 2 turns but pop will only grow to size 3 in 3 turns. I switch it to a templpe due in 2.

Korea and France traded their techs. :( So both have 5 on us. We'll have to meet more civs.

(19) 1525BC: Osaka worker -> worker. It should build a spearman after this worker, and probably rotate between them. Alternatively, you could MM it to build a worker every 4 turns (3 food and 3 shields).

(20): Kyoto expands and builds temple. Continue to settler.

I am very disappointed at contacts, and this makes no brokering possibility so I didn't make any tech deal.

Writing is due in 6 turns, though, and it would open up more opportunities.

I made a simple dotmap. Red dot is highest priority, and then pink, and then blue. I am not putting them too densely, though, which may be wrong, so it's up to discussion.

1500BC.jpg

Our treasure is 217g which is enough to buy IW, but I am more inclined to save the gold for later tech brokerage. We've settled several mountains and in my dotmap there are mountains to the south so I think there must be iron. If we can settle those asap we should not be worried about it.

The second curragh is due in Tokyo in 3 turns, after that I suggest sending it to the north. The west warrior should keep scouting (to the west) but he is redlined now so maybe you want to move him to the mountain and heal him first.

Whenever you meet somebody, check what we can broker with a 3-fer.

In short I didn't manage to make much progress, but I hope the next leader could have better luck.

Wonderless is Wonderful

EDIT: gems will be online next turn or two.
