420 AD: I finally get the roads from Paris hooked up. I start a Granary in Paris.
430 AD: I achieve something Bush and Kerry can only dream of:
440 AD: My first galley sinks in treacherous waters. And the warranty hadn't even expired....
450 AD: The Romans demand literature. They don't get it. They declare war again. I am worried in no way whatsoever, because the Zulus are unwittingly helping me defend my border:
As long as that Zulu Impi stays there, the Romans can't get at me by land. Har har.
I notice that Russia has lost a big chunk of territory. One of its cities suddenly appears to be Roman. I also notice that the Arab capital city got destroyed.
The Ottomans, Zulus, and Russians are pretty close behind me tech-wise. They seem to be the only ones. I am unable to check up on the Roman tech level at the moment, but it appears I'm rapidly running short on contenders.
490 AD: After not seeing the Germans for several turns, another medieval infantry appears in French territory.
The German soldier declines, moving south instead. He gets squashed by my Army next turn. My second galley sinks. Geez. Maybe I should just quit trying to chart the open oceans.
500 AD: Another one bites the dust.
You were right, Rhino--the Arabs were the only ones who had Monarchy. That knowledge has been lost to history.
I start the city of Acropolis on that key mountain tile east of Doomville:
The Zulus leave MY territory, and I send some workers to chop away that first jungle tile.
550 AD:I finish Monotheism. I now have a few decisions to make. I want to get Republic in order to improve my research rate (which is really slowing down). I can research it myself in 18 turns. Or I could get it from Germany in a peace deal--if I throw in a tech or two of my own. I also want to get Feudalism from Germany, but that won't happen unless I trade some Middle Age tech--which I don't want to do at the moment, because Germany is liable to shop it around as soon as other civs reach the Middle Ages.
