Diety Game #2: Crowded House

420 AD: I finally get the roads from Paris hooked up. I start a Granary in Paris.

430 AD: I achieve something Bush and Kerry can only dream of:

440 AD: My first galley sinks in treacherous waters. And the warranty hadn't even expired....

450 AD: The Romans demand literature. They don't get it. They declare war again. I am worried in no way whatsoever, because the Zulus are unwittingly helping me defend my border:

Game2_Image36_SouthGuard.JPG

As long as that Zulu Impi stays there, the Romans can't get at me by land. Har har.

I notice that Russia has lost a big chunk of territory. One of its cities suddenly appears to be Roman. I also notice that the Arab capital city got destroyed.

The Ottomans, Zulus, and Russians are pretty close behind me tech-wise. They seem to be the only ones. I am unable to check up on the Roman tech level at the moment, but it appears I'm rapidly running short on contenders.

490 AD: After not seeing the Germans for several turns, another medieval infantry appears in French territory.

The German soldier declines, moving south instead. He gets squashed by my Army next turn. My second galley sinks. Geez. Maybe I should just quit trying to chart the open oceans.

500 AD: Another one bites the dust.

Game2_Image38_ArabsDead.JPG

You were right, Rhino--the Arabs were the only ones who had Monarchy. That knowledge has been lost to history.

I start the city of Acropolis on that key mountain tile east of Doomville:

The Zulus leave MY territory, and I send some workers to chop away that first jungle tile.

550 AD:I finish Monotheism. I now have a few decisions to make. I want to get Republic in order to improve my research rate (which is really slowing down). I can research it myself in 18 turns. Or I could get it from Germany in a peace deal--if I throw in a tech or two of my own. I also want to get Feudalism from Germany, but that won't happen unless I trade some Middle Age tech--which I don't want to do at the moment, because Germany is liable to shop it around as soon as other civs reach the Middle Ages.

Great thread, Basketcase. Interesting how the game changes when the countries have less land and cities to use....

If you get the chance, get rid of the Germans ASAP. I don't know how other people's games go, but the Germans in my games always end up being a huge pain in the butt!

In the game I am playing right now, I am sending a slew of swordsman to the German border before any problems arise :ar15:

On the other hand, as long as the Zulus are between you and everyone else and you hold that bottleneck that's great strategic position! I would think about looking north and taking out France and Germany maybe? Just a thought.

My my, war with the Zulu does seem possible. In fact, it is almost imminent since 3 troops in your territory probably will not want to leave (especially since you're at war with so many people.
Well, those Zulu troops did leave as soon as I gained that one jungle tile--but war with the Zulus has been a staple in the last three games I've played (Diety game #1 and two others), and it's looking to happen this game too. I don't know what it is about the Zulus..... :)

Basketcase, any idea on the state of the Zulu's military forces? From the screen shot above it looks like they still are using the basic soldiers. Do they have any access to iron?

Not a lot going on this update.

580 AD: Germany coughs up Feudalism in exchange for peace. Rome agrees to peace (again). Place your bets on how long until Rome declares war once more.

Spain and Germany are the only civs that have The Republic. Spain is unwilling to trade it for anything. Germany will only trade it for a Middle Age tech (Monotheism or Engineering).

I decide to pass up on Republic for now; corruption is minimal, my cities would earn 35 or so extra commerce at most, and I'd end up losing 28 commerce to military support costs. That 7-10 extra commerce would be magnified some by my libraries and marketplaces, but right now it doesn't seem worth the hassle.

620 AD: One of those critical jungle tiles is cleared. Getting at the second one will be another matter.

680 AD: I found the city of Herakleia where Leipzig used to be, filling in my chunk of the map (until France and Berlin are added to it, anyway).

Also note the stack of troops I have two tiles south of Rheims.

In the east, I have a couple other stacks of troops coincidentally very close to other strategic points....

Oooh, the suspense.....(feel free to hate me now Ansar, that was kinda cruel of me last time :) )

What ARE you planning, Basketcase? I doubt those troops on the border are going to be delivering flowers to the French. ha, ha... :mischief:

Hey, maybe your scientists can invent napalm so you can clear that jungle out of the way!

Could you post a diplomacy screen? I'm losing track of your wars.
I think its just with his favorite neighbors, the Euros(no offense European people  ) ;)

Wow, this is one of the greatest reads on this whole site, at least in my opinior. This and your other diety game are both extremely impressive to a lowly regent player such as myself (I only now have a game that I am seriously going to finish). For starters, I have to say :goodjob: :salute: .

However, the captions and the funny screenshots make these outstanding, to the point that it's like a drug addiction waiting for your updates. Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if you have given some people new reasons to live again. You are truly a great storyteller as well as a great AI smasher :D .

Anyway, keep up the good work, and I am eagerly anticipating the killing of the French, Zulu, and anyone else who gets in your way (or frankly just need to die). :ar15:

Thank you for the many compliments, everyone. I guess I'm making up for all the horrific stuff I post in Off-Topic. :)

@Lord Iggy: quick runthrough of the general diplomacy this game. I've fought two or three shooting wars against the French and Germans; I declared war on Russia once to get rid of a city they planted on my continent; Spain, Arabia, and Rome have declared war on me several times and then our troops never even touch each other; and during one war Rome dropped a few troops off by boat next to my capital.

Also, Rome recently eliminated the Arabs and has been beating up Russia, that's the most important stuff.

Wow! From such an abysmal start, you've come such a long way! Keep it up! :goodjob:

Incidentally, whom are you planning on attacking next? The French or the Zulus or the Germans? (They seem to be your main problems at the moment...)
