Diety Warmongering

To cut a long story short, I'm looking for some tips on warmongering on Diety. I've recently taken my first (now also second and third) scalp on Diety using Culture to win the game. But now I want to adapt the way I play to take a Domination victory. I cannot help but feel that my war efforts have been some way off efficient since Monarch or even Prince difficulty levels. I seem to mass produce Axemen and send them at the opposition wave after wave and generally deciding whether to keep or distroy the city the moment I take it rather than pre-planning.

I play as Elizabeth due to her traits of Financial and Philosophical.

I've not yet started the game I plan to take the Domination Victory with yet so map types are open to suggestion however I do not want to play anything smaller than a huge map because I enjoy the challenge.

My general strategy is to have 6 cities: 3 commerce cities, 2 hammer cities and 1 Great Person generating city. I suppose I would have the 2 production cities supplying my military units (assuming that's enough?). I like to spread lots of religions, and take Free Religion. I also use Universal Sufferage and am planning on using State Property in order to reduce maintinance costs.

I'm thinking of moving in 3 waves of major war-times. The first early on as soon as a) my cities are up and running, b) I have discovered copper working, c) have a supply of Copper when I will invade my nearest neighbours who do not have Copper, however many that is using Axemen. Then go back to developing untill Knights are available and strike anyone else in the same way. Then (hopefully) finally using gunpowder units to finish the job.

What is everyone else's methods of warfare at Diety level and how can anyone see my own being improved?

Are you still planning on using the same leader for a war based strategy? Perhaps a combination on the lines of financial/aggresive would be more successful.

I've seen the Inca rush work in vanilla. You want to start on a plains hill so that you can pump out Quechua's like crazy and then just take AI city after city. There's still some strategy involved, like figuring out ways to lure the archers out into the open but it's the surest way to get either domination or conquest on deity.

I've played with Inca before but I find the problem is that you have to go to war too early because your unique unit is the equivalent of a warrior therefore to take advantage of this you must be at war within the first few turns which severely stunts the growth of your own cities. I would like to get 4-6 cities up and running before my first war in order to have a stable base to build upon otherwise I fear that technology/commerce will suffer later in the game.

Preatorians and catapults

Those 4-6 cities come from your enemies. There's no way you can build 4-6 cities normally and expect to keep up with the AI.

For vanilla/warlords:

Build/conquer 6+ cities

Run heavy FE during early game (you need the whip for your army)

Beeline lib with lots of lightbulbing (switch to cast for the last 20 turns or so)

Research Nationalism while going for lib

Prebuild harchers and knights

Pick mtrad as freebee from lib, trade for gpowder

Run tons of merchants after you have done the bulb on lib (trade for machinery only AFTER that bulb, because else you will get offered ppress)

Trade for lots of money, fire your trade mission, upgrade your army to cav (you need about 20) and whip some trebs (about 6) and go berserk.

You should be able to hit around 500 AD at your first neighbour (the most advanced) with cav or you are to late. But when you are in time, you should be able to take out 1-2 neighbours with this army before you face rifles

Tech to chem/steel while doing your warfare, prebuild about 15 trebs while doing so, upgrade to cannon, finish another 1 - 2 neighbours (or more;)).

Around that point you should be already close to dom. because latgame warfare on deity is more or less impossible... ...the average deity will have about 200 units waiting for you

...

P.S.:

funny thing is, that I´m actually trying exactly this (but on a huge map, to make things even more funny:crazyeye:):

domination with england on deity but haven´t come very far so far...
