Hail, dearest Neighbors!
We are interested in talking more about the possibility of a joint attack on the Donuts. We agree that an attack by both of us will be more effective that each of us pursuing different goals. Look at how much we've already achieved by working together!
While you researched Republic, we were able to research and trade for all the rest of the Ancient Age techs minus Construction and Polytheism (lucky pop!) The BattleIslanders have achieved nothing of the sort. Peace pays, and we both profit from it. And so we understand your reluctance to have your hands tied in future trading deals with the BattleIslanders. After all, you were locked down in researching Republic while we were free to trade with the others. One thing you should not mistake, though: We traded with TNT only because it was our understanding from communications with you that there was no strong objection, and we happily provided you (or are about to provide you) with all the techs we obtained in trades. We would also like to confirm that we did not trade Philosophy with anyone. Every trade we made was sent to you for approval in advance. But that is behind us. Let us talk of the future.
Since you are receiving MapMaking, and will thus be able to make Harbors, we want to strike a deal concerning Wines for Ivory. We will also add Polytheism to the trade: that way you get Polytheism, and there are no tough explanations required if those nosy BattleIslanders come asking.
Concerning the request for positioning troops on our eastern shore as a staging area for a Dnut invasion:
We see this as a very large step to take so shortly after stating that it is your intention to steer our agreement to "Null and Void" after this Republic swap (in the words of the Estimable Idiot Daghda). Our treaty clearly says that the peace between our two nations may only be broken after a 10-turn warning period, and that 10 turn warning period may not commence until after 10 turns have elapsed from the discovery of Republic. On turn 84 Republic was discovered, thus the peace between us is only binding until turn 104. There is a faction among us who are concerned that you will use the mandated 20 turns of peace to move GS into our heartland, then turn around and declare war with a whole stack already on our doorstep.
Clearly, that is not your intention, and so we think you won't object to agreeing to one of the following arrangements, by which we both continue to build on the successes and the trust of the past:
1. KISSMIA enter into a new x-turn peace deal, with the same triggers and provisos as the last treaty. We understand that you have no desire to see war on this continent, and as such, this treaty is really just formalizing the good will KISS and MIA have towards eachother.
2. If there's no guarantee of peace after turn 104 then we can't open our borders to military units. I'm sure you would feel the same if we were asking to bring 10 swordsmen onto the outskirts of your cherished villages! Therefore we would limit our cooperation to clearing barb camps, and wine-ivory trading. KISS of course would still get preferential treatment in all tech deals.
We look forward to hearing from you and to profit from many more years of peace in our fair lands.
Always yours in Trust and Honor,
Your Neighbors MIA
P.S. We know there has been some confusion over polytheism. We're confident the proposal outlined in the above letter solves this problem in a very satisfactory way for all sides. If not please know that we take our word seriously, and will make sure we get this resolved so that there are no bad feelings.
