Diplomacy

Although I don't understand at all what donsig tries to tells us... :crazyeye:

Let's just call it the FREE Maneuver.

@ Niklas: C'mon, don't keep us in suspense - what was the miswritten order? I sure hope it was German because the Evil Tri-Axis sure doesn't need any help. ;)

Alright, the error was England's. But correcting it certainly helped Germany. He wrote A BER->DEN (and consistently wrote BER on the support and convoy too) instead of A BEL->DEN. Since there was no way NTH could convoy BER, I find it very unlikely that was what he meant to do, even if he had had access to moving Russia's army. ;)

If I hadn't fixed it, Russia would have taken DEN and destroyed the army there.

At least BEL and BER are only one letter apart unlike VEN and ROM which has been known to be confused before. :mischief:

:gripe:

;) just kidding. Perfectly okay.

Do we set a new deadline?

Not that I was ready to post any orders...
I guess I need the pressure :mischief:

I think I sent my orders to cubsfan ages ago.

Guys, this game is getting a bit dead, and I know you are all active enough to send your orders in.

I propose that we either continue, or we have a DIAS (Draw Including All Survivors). A DIAS will end the game, obviously.

I'll pm this to all surviving players so it'll get slightly more attention.

For the last two turns I sent orders right after the results were published. Last time I sent them to both cubsfan and Niklas. Since there doesn't seem to be much interest in the game anymore I vote for the DIAS draw.

Allright then.

A DIAS has to be voted for unanimously, so one no-vote will stop the draw.

I'll set a deadline. All players in the game will have to vote before Tuesday 11 December. Players who don't cast a vote will be assumed to have voted yes. One no vote will stop the draw.

Officially the draw has to be held privately, but I think it's easier if you just post it here.

And obviously I vote yes for the draw.

Sorry, I've had my attention elsewhere. It's true that I, like Paul, need a whip. I was waiting for cubsfan to set a new deadline and in the meantime I let it slip from my mind.

Sorry guys, but I vote no. I want to see the end of this game.

It is no surprise that Niklas voted no. But please let's play the game. I will not be :whipped: the two who are winning to try to get them to finish the game. ;)

What the game needs is a stricter schedule.

Every update should be posted within a couple of hours of the deadline, and every deadline should only have a one day extension, no exceptions. When there's a definite pace, people are more likely to be disciplined and prompt.

Also, when there's certainty to the deadlines, people will know when they have to send letters by, and when their orders have to be finalized. Really, it's the only way games like this can proceed at a reasonable pace, and with continuity of action.

peter grimes, no chance you would consider stepping in as GM? I think you'd do a great job, and I'm not 100% comfortable sitting on two chairs.

Alright, regardless of whether peter accepts or not, let's set the deadline to be Tuesday at 9 PM GMT. If no one else will then I'll handle it.

I'll consider it... Let me play around with jdip a bit first, to make sure that I understand how to use it to process multiple orders without screwing anything up

OKay, I've got JDip working reasonably well, but I can't seem to open the last save.

It saved to my desktop as a ~.rar.txt

I removed the .txt, but jdip still wouldn't recognize the file. I tried changing .rar to .jar, as that's the extension of the executable. Still no luck.

If this won't work on my home computer (mac), we'll be limited to deadlines that cooincide with my workday - 8am to 5pm, gmt -5.

Any thoughts?

peter, if you give me your email adress I can send you the jDip file uncompressed. The .rar is a compressed file (like .zip), since CFC won't let you upload .jdip using the uploading system. If you don't have one, you can find an un-compressor for Mac OS X at http://www.unrarx.com/ .

As Peter Grimes is having problems with jDip how about setting the deadline to Wednesday instead?
