Dirk's deity game

I don't recall whether ou've had a GA already, but it might be worth it to produce a GP and trigger one. With extensive civics changes like you're contemplating, the value of a GA increases dramatically. Since you have the mausoleum, you'll get another 50% length on it. Looking at your cities, Mayapan can run 3 specialists in 3 turns, I'm not sure on the amount of GPP still needed, but it might be worth it.

It's certainly worth it as i haven't had one GA, i mentioned at the end of one of the posts. Not only am i contemplating switches in the near future but i'd like to switch on/back once oxford's up.

I'm not in caste system however so it's hard to run enough specialists, i can try in the capital though, build a theater and i should be able to run some 4-6 specialists as i have uni/market there. Maybe build NE there next but this probably clashes with oxford. I have to figure out a way to make it all fit. I can switch to OR/Rep in one turn, maybe this simplest anyway sine the effects'll kick in immediately.

1070AD-1842AD

Some lengthy considerations in my pevious post. In the end i keep it simple since as Snowlywhite already said the game's just won.Revolt to fm/rep once economics is in. Build Oxford as planned. My science rate is > 600 bpt now which is satisfactory.Go chemistry-->corporation-->steel backtrading for things like ecomomics/constitution.

Check out how the war between Boudica and Pericles goes. Boudica has dropped some 15 units near Corinth and she takes it.I could join in but i only have some 5 trebs now and i'm busy with Oxford so i decide to wait. Pericles takes back the city some turns later and for a while it's quiet over there.

1150 AD Boudica asks me to join the war. She now has a 15 unit stack before Athens. I'm 3 turns from steel and i certainly want to please Boudica any way i can now so i agree. Things move fast from here on, i move the stack to Athens which has been weakened by Boudica and take it.Boudica takes Argus,i Bribe Boudica to peace now because she would have taken Thebes otherwise.

I have cannons now and Pericles falls easily 1400 AD the greek civilization's destroyed.Move the stack's to the north declare on Toku and take 3 cities. Then 1500 AD Boudica declares on Hamm and asks for my help next turn. I agree, make peace with Japan and move my stacks to the south. Boudica takes Borsippa, i take the rest after bribing Boudica to peace again. No Babylon left 1595 AD.

Meanwhile Toku has backstabbed me and he takes one of his cities back with some curi's. Move the stacks to the north, end of Japan 1675 AD. It's totally clear that i'm winnning now. Even in war times with quite a bit of WW i always had a small tech lead along the Steam power-AL line. Only Fred is way more advanced than i am but he doesn't count. He goes for a weak cultural attempt after teching indu.

With the whole continent online i leave all the others in the dust from the moment i have researched radio/industrialization.Can get techs like plastic/comps in 4 turns, later on all the modern techs cost me 2~3 turns.Only Boudica and i are left as free nations, Fred and Kublai are both vassalized to Boudica. Relations with Boudica > + 20 so there'll be no wars.

Found mining for +14 hammers production. I have all the techs sooner than i have built apollo. build the whole ship in 10 turns from there. Reach Alpha 1842 AD while teching future tech 6.

Especially the first part of the game with the defensive war against Toku was fun. Rounding up was not too tedious so i played it out to the end. Next time i probably go with a random start, taking my chances. Thx remoulado for providing this map, it was a pretty good one.

Congrats on another nice deity win, Dirk! You make it look really easy, almost Rusten-style.
But I do believe that this game might have developed differently if the AI wasn't too scared to move Settler-parties through cultures with open borders. Both Hammi and especially Pericles would have settled your hinterland quickly, putting you under pressure to either REX there yourself (using up resources needed for the war on Toku and increasing maintenance early) or to close borders (eliminating foreign trade and +ves in relations).
What do you and others think about this {bug?}?

Thx Dan, i take the comparision with Rusten's style as a compliment :goodjob:.

About blocking strats, in former versions of civ (believe even in warlords) ais would go through borders. As it is now they go through if the border's not totally closed but they don't if they are. A very costly solution would be closing borders but the ai can just as easily build galleys.

In this game i would have made peace with Toku and settled as much of the backyard as possible. That would have been possible since i has lots of early cottages up.

Generally it's not so simpe of course. So is it a bug/flaw that should be changed? Personally i disliked the very aggressive way ais would settle in your backyard building cities that are not profitable for them but eat up your land. So i kind of like it as it is now but it'd be nice if the ai knew a bit more about blocking/chokes itself. Let's face it human players don't go through borders either to found some city that'll be culturally pressed and costs some 15 gpt without courthouse.

In this game i built a blocking strip then slowly settled the backyard, fully exploiting the way the game is coded. In this case where i left so much land open maybe the ai should be allowed to go through borders. Some algorithm could be built that calculates the amount of open land and decides on settling accordingly. But in the end i don't mind too much as it is now, deity is hard enough as it is and blocking is part of the game. And if i ever think deity's becoming too easy i could always give the ais another settler as you once suggested on immortal.
