I was playing as Rome and I was teched up to around long swordsmen, when a pikeman I had found an ancient ruin, and found advanced technology...and jumped up to rifleman.
Is this the normal path for advanced weaponry, or was this just a glich? It was kind of gamebreaking at the time because I was already teched ahead of everybody else...

Wait, didn't they fix this in a previous patch or two?

What they fixed is that you no longer can upgrade a warrior all the way to mech infantry from ancient ruins. You get one weaponry upgrade per unit and that's it.

As stated, this is a function of the upgrade paths. It seems jumpy because the upgrade path is; Rifleman is the next unit after Pikeman on its line.

I don't mind it too much, because it's not like it's really exploitable (in the sense of being able to exploit the mechanic, as opposed to being able to make the most of it).

I think Musketmen could serve as a "stopgap" upgrade path for Pikemen instead of straight jumping to rifles, if they don't want to add in another unit. It serves as a weak introduction to gunpowder-based units, but its less jumpy than what we currently have.

I acutally DON'T undestand why Musketmen are completely unlinked, I would assume they would be an upgrade before Riflemen.
