Here we go BB. :)

Set up:
- Greece (scientific and commercial)
- standard size map (continental)
- 4 rivals (England, India, France, and Rome - all commercial trait civs)
- regent level
- barbs restless
- culturally linked starting locations -> OFF

Hey, lets bat around how we want to approach the game: victory condition, self-imposed # of cities, no Forbidden Palace, gov't restriction, etc as some ideas.

I'll email you my save file after my first 20 turns.

Hmm. This looks interesting, but I moved out of regent about 6 months ago :lol:. Good luck, and may the Schwartz be with yoooooououououuuuuouuuu...
OK, seriously, this is an insanely good start. have fun with it :). And once I start up TSK02, feel free to join ;).

Not much going on.

I set the research line for literature re: Great Library. I figured w/ 5 civs on a standard map, it may be a while before we need offensive units. We've almost reached writing, and a settler is 4 turns away.

May I ask why you didn't research Pottery? It's one of the most useful techs you can have for fast colonization.

Its relatively easy to expand at the same rate or better than the AI on regent w/ out pottery, its always a cheap tech to purchase or trade for, and would be x amount number of turns that prolong the construction of the Great Library. Also, the AI will give up techs for literature, in a trade made after its close to completion.

ok, i'm gonna go for the great library as soon as I have a couple of perimeter cities (about 3-4 I think)...after Literature, what technology do you think we should research...I usuall go for Monarchy, but if we're definitely gettting the GL we can just set the Tech Rate to Zero and get gads of money....

as for restrictions...I don't think there should be any...except no nuclear weapons...how about that? (meaning, we can only retaliate against a nuclear attack, not start one) :)

That's Berkeley Militarist Philosophy for you.

Also, I'll make sure to build library's in every one of the cities...I'm thinking cultural victory right now...with peaceful expansion until then...

Kewl,
I'll play my 20 turns hopefully today...but I might not get the save game back till Monday, I'm busy moving and stuff...

Ta! :)

What arrangement do you want? Overlap or no overlap? If I'm expecting a game filled w/ conflict, I overlap to improve production from less corruption. But, if we're looking at "live and let live" then 4-5 tiles between each city should be fine. What do you think?

No hurry, I've got a EU2 game going that's consuming me alive! Plus, I begn teaching again on Wednesday. A nice slow pace here is fine.

3000BC
~2800BC- Goody Hut Found (Free Warrior)
- Sparta Founded
2670BC- Barracks Built (Athens)
2550BC- Hoplite Built (Sparta)
2470BC- Settler Built (Athens)

Sorry I didn't give a whole timeline, I forgot how many years equate to each turn... :lol:

I suggest placing the city on the isthmus to the east where I have the warrior fortified (good defensive point :)

Also, yeah, I'm going to try and space the cities between 4 and 5 (with resource-grabbing exceptions of course)...I wasn't sure how you meant that you maximize production with close-built cities (doesn't that take away from each cities production? oh wait, right, corruption is reduced) So, I guess we're going for overall city size and a powerful cultural empire. Veni, Something, Something...May Greece Conquer All! :goodjob:

P.s. Hope the file came along good and well through the e-mail :)

Hey, I guess you're busy with school and whatnot...(and my school starts tomorrow!)...but I was wondering how those greeks were coming along? :)

no problem man... but thanks :)

1910 - Athens b settler, set to hoplite; Thermopylae b hoplite.
1870 -

1790 -
1750 - Thermopylae b worker, set to barracks.
1725 - Settled Corinth west of Athens.
1700 - Contact made w/ France, traded writing & 317g for masonry, ceremonial burial, warrior code, and iron working; France has communications w/ England.
1675 - Athens b hoplite, set to Pyramids (intend to switch production to Great Library once literature is discovered [28 turns]).

I completely forgot to send Thermopylae's warrior scouting to the east, do this ASAP. The race is on w/ France for settling lands to our west and north. They do not have our maps, but they are in the area now. We need to secure both iron deposits ASAP, see jpg (north of Athens & to our south). So far so good!

dojoboy, just a quick question...

how do you save picture of Civ3 again?

thanks,

<Command-Shift-3> places a full screenshot in a tiff or giff file called 'Picture 1' (or some other number) on your statup disk under classic OS and on your desktop under OS X.

Press <Command-Shift-4> to drag a specific area to capture.

Use preview to export the image into a jpg.

To attach a file in a post, it must be no larger than 100 kb. If your pic is larger than 100 kb, then it must be uploaded using the 'Upload File" option found at the bottom of the page, right-hand side.

well, it was a pretty uneventful 20 turns (or 22, I'm not entirely sure)

I can see that we have different playing styles...I kinda always keep one or two cities on settler duty for constant expansion...and I always have new cities build a culture producer first (library/temple) ... I think the greeks are still doing good though :goodjob:

Summary:
1675BC - started my turns
1400BC - Therm. b. barracks
1100BC - Therm. b. temple
1050BC - Sparta b. Colossus

Yeah, I'm bringing back the warrior to Sparta and then probably to the new iron settlement to the south (I think that's the best one to go for first)...

That's about it... Have fun!

I don't know if we really need the Great Library on regent, but its always nice to have. ;) If you want to swtich it over to settlers for a wahile to expand, go right ahead BB. We may still get it in the end. We're the only one w/ literature atm, but someone may try to extort it from us soon reason for me building some archers. Save on its way.

Turns that had entries;

150 BC - Begin Turn
110 BC - Sparta b settler -> settler
50 BC - Argos founded
10 BC - Thermopylae b harbor -> galley
30 AD - Sparta b settler -> settler
90 AD - Delphi b temple -> barracks

190 AD - Knossos b library -> temple
210 AD - Sparta b settler -> hoplite; Thermopylae b settler -> library

Observations: Things are going well, anticipate a conflict w/ England over English city near Athens (reason for building some barracks); two settlers en-route to settlement sites if you like them (pics below).

I love the great library. But I gotta love the Golden Age that it sparked even more!!!

Summary:

Couldn't figure out what you were doing with the hoplite east of Argos, Sent it to Mycanae

230 AD - Begin Turn
240
250 AD - library was built in some city
260
270 AD - GL Built! Golden AGE triggered! (Good thing?)
280 AD - Traded Spices, Iron, 730 Gold, WM, and Polytheism to France for The Republic (would have taken 16 turns otherwise)
290 AD - Started Revolution
300
310
320 AD - Republic Declared. The people rejoice. :)
Hurried production at Mycanae (library) and Ephesus (library) Both cities are near wines and need more culture to combat Frenchies
330
340
350
360
370
380
390
400
410
420
430 AD - Game Saved. I love Golden Ages! Ok, so I'm thinking that the French are more of a threat because they have about equal culture. Thinking pre-emptive strike maybe? Building up horses that will immediately convert to knights in the middle-ages...then the conquering of the continent. I think the British can be taken by planting 'culture cities' near their border towns. Eventually, they'll probably declare war on us. (Thinking this should be before the French Invasion).

Anyway, that's the deal. Sorry for the wait...Berkeley is crazy as always!
