The good news: The game ain't over yet and we have still our chance to get it done.
Seeing that we were at -13 gpt @ 30% science I took a look at our payroll.
Unit costs and maintenance are the biggest factors apart from Civic Upkeep. If we don't do anything about it we will soon see only the dust of the AI techwise. So I dismissed two Warriors and whipped Courthouses where they missed, and I consequently worked cottage tiles. As we couldn't afford more units I built research in our Capital to speed research up, and I worked on gold and science multiplying builds.
I also canceled the last two deals with Hannibal as we don't need the happiness.
I shuffled our GM around for a higher yield, but ended up with where he was at the beginning of the set. Oddly enough not even the size 17 capital Amsterdam yielded more than Paliputra, must be because of trade routes. Anyway I cashed in the 1500 bucks as we need them now.
Why do we need them ? Because of this:
Right, I went for that tech as it opens up Grenadiers, which are the easiest reachable stronger footsoldiers. Rifling is a long way, and we need stronger units now. I suggest upgrading all our army to Grenadiers and attack as soon as possible - but
remember to put City raider promotions on each unit before upgrading.
We will have three strong stacks to deal with:
The next player should check if any of our three enemies has open borders with Asoka. If not, we can concentrate our forces in the northern cities. We have a GE in our Capital, but no wonder is available right now. I suggest either settling it in Madrid or saving it. Willy went Constitution > Corporation and hasn't discovered Rifling yet.
Imhotep
