DMI XII - Imhotep's Legacy

T63: IW in, we have Iron (mined) at Thebes! Select writing next. Worker -> Axeman
Spoiler :
Iron.jpg

T65: Thebes: Axeman-> Settler, Thebes is unhappy at six.
T68: Writing in, Sailing selected
T70 : OB with Monty, hoping religion will spread
T72:Settler done, GW started. (in 7)
Decide to move the settler to the blue circle

T75 Memphis: Granary->workboat
Heliopolis is built in the jungle 2E of the bananas and lights up several barb archers in the vicinity.
Spoiler :
Helio.jpg

I whip the GW for 3 pop (1 unhappy and we grow really fast there). Poly selected (we need that for the Glib)
T76: Great Wall is build: now we can go to war, I declare on Monty. :D
Spoiler :
GW.jpg

Thebes:GW-> Axe selected.

Helio is building a granary, but the jungle needs to be chopped to let it grow (stagnant now). Our 2 workers are already near.
Memphis needs a warrior for protection and could then start Moai maybe and some wonders next. Thebes is still near it’s happy-cap, so could build us some more settlers and workers, mixed with some military.

An overview of our empire, there's stone to the north if we really want to start pumping wonders :mischief:

Haven't looked at the save, but from what I saw in your report you declared on Monte with 2 Axes? on Monarch? Maybe I'm lacking, but that seems a bit pre-mature. Maybe I just misread and 1st post and we're supposed to declare once we have 2 wonders?

In SP, I'd have waited for ~7-8 axes at least before rushing him. And in SG games, I'd have just built up an army and let the team decide.

I didn't look at the game, but I suspect that comment was a joke. Later in the post he was talking about building settlers - you don't do that in a hard war.

It was a (lame) joke.

Nice turns MOC.

I think we need to make a decision:
a) Build cities now in the jungle. I don't think we have enough workers to make this viable, and a little more exploration would be nice before deciding on locations
b) Take some Aztec cities. These are more productive in the short term than the jungle (just look at Tlatelolco), but I'm not sure if it's in the spirit of the variant. If it is, then it is my preferred option.
c) Build more Wonders

What do you all think?

It will take a lot of worker turns to make most of the proposed jungle cities viable. Before that Monty will DoW us surely ( he settled in our direction, so he should not have no one closer than us... ). as we need to have to make a army to defend ourselfs, maybe it is better to DoW him anyway. We have a chip of war to spend anyway ... ;)

Seems I'm up :) . I'll play and report tomorrow. I'd have nothing against a good ol' fashioned brawl with Monty - in fact that's the reason I placed him where he is :D . Before you complain you should wait for the later stages of the game - I was gracious to us with the placing of the AI... :) Warfare is not strictly forbidden in this variant, but it's just there as a spice once in a while...

@MOC: :whew: I was just sweating about the scrambling we're gonna have to be in for if you had in fact declared. But no sweat :goodjob:, it was a joke that I'm just too :old: to get

I'm all for war and declaring on Monte, I just wanted more prep work before it. That's all :)

Had a hard day at court and feel rather worn out  . I'll play this on the weekend...

Not only a hard day at court, but having to argue in German too!

Sorry for the long delay, but here we go again ! [party]

We have a new neighbor in the north:

Always love when she pops up ;) . The good news is that Monty and our beauty don't altogether like each other due to religious strains...

Which brings us to Monty. He spread Hinduism into Thebes. I didn't convert yet as we have to decide who to buddy up with.

We get a Great Person. We had 98% on the Priest, but of course we get a...

Damn ! And I had looked forward to that Priest, everything was planned so beautifully...

Stupid low odds RNG stole our shrine !

I suggest we found a city here - gems, horses [sic!] and food, and all nice cottageable land.

A Settler is queued up at Thebes, afterwards we can decide if we want the 'mids and/or the Oracle. Our fishing villa should pump units for a good while now as it is at its happy cap anyway.

I got it......

Good turns Imhotep. I agree we need to settle the horses/gems site quickly. Horses for our UU and gems for the extra happies we desperately need. Being Egyptian I'd say we have to build the Pyramids. Too bad the stone up north is a bit far away, or isn't it?
Regarding relations: I expect us to go to war with Monty sooner or later, so it won't do us much good to befriend him. Besides, Boudica looks much better. :mischief:

725 BC
I see no comments on usage for the spy, so I settle him into Thebes. This early in the game +12 EP a turn is really nice. At this point even the +3 beakers help.

With the whack jobs we have for neighbors, I agree to let Memphis build 100% military during my round.
(IT) We are so short on cash I have to lose all the food in the granary in Thebes.

650 BC
I read the last three pages, and found nothing about tech path. I went for Aesthetics as it opens up plenty of wonders.

475 BC
The proposed city for gems was built.

425 BC
Monty demands crabs, and I give it to him. We will fight sooner or later, but I prefer it on OUR terms.

Summary:
Make sure to cancel the crabs for Monty when possible.

The pyramids are due in 13 turns.

There is no stone / marble toward the west, but the cattle / rice / clams to the south looks nice.
