DMI XII - Imhotep's Legacy

@team: I have shortened my username for ease of use*.

* but you can keep shortening that to Z if you want.

@r_rolo

We have a Sentry promoted War Chariot, so I would build a galley and try to meet the Greeks (or Americans?) to the south

I finally got rid of a persistent virus on my computer and have taken a look at the save. I believe we're nearly done expanding. We should also start spreading the faith for more shrine income and starting building up our military: Boudica is WHEOOH now and doesn't want to declare on Monty so she might have another target.

If the King of Himself doesn't come up with a report soon, berserks should take it...

Unlike advertized in the report, we were 5 turns away of sankore ;)

Not that we were going to lose it ;)

Anyway I decided to explore the Aztec-Celtic border.... and found this:
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0002.jpg

This only reinforced my beleif that Boudi was plotting vs us ( the city was filled with a nice SoD )

As I had a settler in hand, i decided to make a far-far away city:
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0003.jpg

And in a IBT:
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0004.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0005.jpg

I decided to cave to monty... as boudi was going to DoW us as soon as she could anyway ;) And we need monty good graces more than Boudi ones.

BTW.....
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0006.jpg

This was one of the worst fought wars I ever seen :p both parties sent their relatively big SoD against enemy cities, both withdrawed to face the enemy SoD and when the carnage was going to happen..... a broker stopped the war ;)

Well at least the war had a good effect for us:
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0013.jpg

Boudi stopped with that nonsense of making war with us....

I used the time of the war to discover if we were getting the backstabbing or the Philo greek. Place your bets....
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0009.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0011.jpg

Not bad... far better than our resident northern stooges.

We got a good event:
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0014.jpg

I betted the cash and it payed out ( so we should get machinery before it starts to decay ).

And decided to make a trade with Monty:
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0016.jpg

Monarchy because of our newly adquired wine source and Meditation because of need for monasteries to put our shrine going.

And I finished my set with Education. I placed research in machinery because of the event bonus, of allowing maces ( boudi already has them ) and x-bows and maybe as a trading chip with Monty. But OFC that can be changed ;)

Some extra intel:
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0019.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0020.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0021.jpg

A small detail: the greeks aren't putting any EP on us. They surely have neighbours, probably a lot of them.

Nice progress, my King :) . Yes, I think we should head for Machinery too - Maces and X-Bows are nice for both offense and defense. We don't want to get caught with our pants down if Boudica gets iffy again.

Well played indeed, your King. :king: Good tech trade, but for extra shrine income we need a jewish monastery instead of a Hindu one, no? Looking at the save, that's hard without Judaism in the city:rolleyes:

Can we still try for Liberalism? That's 14 turns away atm. Boudica has Philosophy but no paper yet.
Let's get open borders with Alex, maybe we can get a Christianity spread (hammer bonus).

But 1st priority should be our military, we're the weakest civ atm. We got lucky Monty saved us from Boudica (good call Rolo).

I've got it....

It's an alright set, as far as alright set goes....

Finished Machinery, and selected Philo next for no reason whatsoever...

Civ4ScreenShot0000-59.jpg

Then I got a kinda good event

Civ4ScreenShot0003-55.jpg

and an idea inspired me, so I choose the 2nd option

Got a GS, and built an Academy at Thebes

Civ4ScreenShot0004-48.jpg

Philo came in, and I selected Lib (7 turns)

Civ4ScreenShot0005-42.jpg

pumped up science to 90% and brought it down to 4 turns.

Got a bad event

Civ4ScreenShot0006-31.jpg

Spoke to Toynbee

Civ4ScreenShot0007-25.jpg

Captured a barb city (lost a sword due to a misclick and a war chariot to a warrior at 97.4% odds in out favor :rolleyes:)

Civ4ScreenShot0008-22.jpg

Made some trades

Civ4ScreenShot0009-16.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0010-15.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0011-12.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0012-9.jpg

I stopped when Lib is 1 turn away, here are the possible choices

Civ4ScreenShot0013-9.jpg

I also built a bunch of maces and pults. Built courthouses all around (except 3 cities) and a bunch of Universities.

A good set, berserks. I'd say we go for the good ol' fashioned Nationalism grab with Lib and get us the Taj. Also we should continue building Maces, X-Bows and Siege. At some time we may want to use one of our DoW licenses :devil: :D . Also I think it is time for a discussion about our victory goal. I'd say Diplomatic victory would be most in the fashion of our variant, but I'm open to anything. Still we should avoid big slugfests, so Conquest seems to be out.

IT (201): Things have changed a lot since since my last turn, lots of builds finished, probably thank to the :whipped:

Enter...

T202
Lib in, choose Nationalism and then Music (in 2) for the free Great Artist.
Natio202.jpg

Music204.jpg

3,14-Ramesses: University ->Barracks
Thebes starts building the Taj (in 14)
Switch Illinois from a University to our double-speed forge
Monty has build the Kashi-wossname.
Switch to Free religion for the extra beakers (29) and happiness.
Open borders with Alex (edit: forgot it in the replay), hoping Christianity spreads and that he’ll like us better

T203
Memphis Jewish missionary-> Jewish missionary
And the game crashes on the log. Darn! :badcomp:

I try to replay the turns as best as I can. I think I got it right the second time. grrr
Alexandria Market -> Longbowman. We mostly have axes as defenders.

T204: Music in, Compass next on the way to Optics to meet the other civs. On the same turn the Sistine Chapel gets built, somewhere far away. Huh? No GA for us. Geez, I thought I checked. I find out I forgot to open borders with Alex, so I do now.

T205: Compass -> Optics
Memphis missionary ->Harbor
Pi-Ramesses barracks -> Longbowman
Heliopolis Catapult -> Jew. Monastery

T206: Nothing much

T207: Optics in, Printing Press next. Have to drop science to 30%!

T208: Elephantine Catapult -> LB
Alexandria LB -> Harbor
Pi LB -> Caravel

T209: Memphis harbor -> Caravel
And we get a spoiler event, seems Gandhi is in the game as well. I take the relationship boost with Alex. Hey, we don’t even know this Gandhi guy and he still gets pissed off.
GAndhi209.jpg

Ilinois: Forge -> University

T210: A nice number so I stop here.
Boudica has enough on her hands again. She has a lot of units in Isca but no boats atm. I believe Monty and she will have another slugfest.

Isca210.jpg

Taj in 6 turns. PP in 6. A 50% chance GS in 9.

I removed my old signs and added a new one for gold city. It will pay for itself when it uses the sugar from Anasazi.

Boudica and Monty still haven't met Alexander. Two caravels will complete soonish and should go prove that the world isn't a disc carried by 4 elephants on the back of the great A'tuin.

And a couple of screenshots.

And yes! I remembered to attach the save! :woohoo:

... and then Music (in 2) for the free Great Artist
The quote in the tech tree is a constant - it doesn't change with what happens in the game. The quote you get (bottom left) does ... so if it says 'free artist' or 'found religion' there - then the freebie is still available.
And the game crashes on the log. Darn! :badcomp:
Looks like someone is playing with a pre-v3.0 version of BUG. Or that they didn't follow the install instructions.

With "the quote you get (bottom left)" you mean the pop-up when you hover over the tech you want to choose? That's where I checked, so maybe, just maybe, someone else discovered Music just before we did and used a GE to build Sistine's/ [/covering up].

The problem with BUG is that it won't let me play the game with it. Does that have to do with the version or installation? I can't check now which version I have (@work)?

Got it. Nice progress :) . Guys, how do you feel about the game? Is it fun for you up to this point?

To be frank, I feel an urge to cash in on our wonder chips and kick somebody's ass. But I just reread your first post about the objective of this variant and re-realized this is supposed to be a more peaceful game. :rudolf:
My suggestion is: meet the other civ's first and see we're we stand and then decide what type of victory we'd like to achieve.

Finishing the game without at least one war would feel kind of 'tantric' to me though, nudge, nudge, know what I mean?. :cooool:
