DMI XII - Imhotep's Legacy

Well, I thought this would be a fairly boring set. I'd build the Taj and go in military build up mode. But I had not set Monty there for naught. He's the guy to spice things up :D . He got iffy and demanded 90 gold from us, almost all our treasure at that point. I declined as I have no inclination to yield to insane people, and as expected he behaved according to his legendary fame...

86540303lw9.jpg

War, and I saved even a precious DoW :D  . At the beginning of the set I thought it would be a good idea to move our SoD to the border. Came in handy now...

But first I had to mind more pressing affairs. Welcome Summer Home !

68745439jd4.jpg

And a spicy 12 turn GA courtesy of MoM is nothing to scoff at. Monty couldn't have choosed a more perfect time for declaring, as now we'll enjoy super-boosted production of units...

Boobica still hangs in WHEEOH mode and doesn't want to declare on Monty. Oh well, you can't have all things...

29925633uh8.jpg

Our Caravels are exploring nicely and met this beauty:

80352283yn3.jpg

This set was somehow the time for AIs to get uppish - another insolent demand...

76088897op2.jpg

Mr. Peace-is-all-Kumbah-Yah is in the game too...

25314931hg8.jpg

The Russian Hottie and Mr. Bald are better endorsed in tech then our ****** neighbors, but still behind us. Though we can't see yet how far down the Banking line they are...

We liberate a city [party] !

93857941xm1.jpg

And we get Engineering. This is heavily needed as Monty sports Knights. I queue up Pikes in our military cities...

98211797un6.jpg

And that was about my set. We're fine in tech. There may be some trades opening up soon.

10ut4.jpg

Demographics are promising too.

11tp1.jpg

We have a Great Prophet in the capital. Either we kick off another GA or we settle him at Memphis. Our troops are still healing in the newly aquired city. Don't move out before scouting - Monty's big stack consisting of Knights is right at hand in the fog. Have fun and good luck ! :)

I join a peaceful builders game and get stuck with war.

@Lee:

I'm sorry. But I didn't say this was with always peace setting on, did I ;) ? You should hold easy enough, there is only 1 really good stack to destroy. And we all know the AI can't attack if it has not overwhelming numbers...

Just a notice to the team. I will be OOP and civ-less as well as possibly no internet access starting tomorrow (9/11) night til saturday (9/20) night. Please put me on autoskip during that period.

Do we have any civics changes we want to make? I would prefer to take care of them during a GA.

Well, we could certainly go with Theocracy and a religion switch - should help for the war.

1550 AD
I don't know what happened with building National Epic in the capitol, but I just queued it up behind the pike.
(IT) This rather scary stack just showed up.
lak1504ye8.jpg

1555 AD
(IT) We held, but I think Monty came out ahead. Since I think this game is bugged, I am not risking checking the log.

1560 AD
We have a general. Since I haven't seen a super medic, I am going to create one.
(IT) With us being at war, I pick military tradition as the next tech.

1565 AD
(IT) Alexander proves the world is round when our caravels can all but touch each other...

1570 AD
I sell out map to Gandhi for $40 and his map. There is no reason to hoard it now that we lost the round world race.
(IT) Monty's annoying galley is no longer in the south.
I refuse to give Gandhi nationalism.

I am not sure which way the team wants to go with the Monty war. I send our soldiers back to the field on the random event.

1575 AD
(IT) Nuisance battles continue around Tzin.

1580 AD
(IT) Monty gets serious again around Tzin.

1585 AD
The Monty SOD around Tzin is finally gone.

I officially double our golden age with the priest.

1595 AD
I find a missing civ - Shaka.

1600 AD
We just picked up a scientist.

Heroic Epic is now available. IMHO we should decide on the location before ZPV plays his turn. Our active general should settle in that city. I would like to take advantage of the golden age to get the Heroic Epic built quickly.

Monty will now talk, so we need to decide how far we want to push this war.

Is this why there is no save?

I continue to hate using the attachment system.
I've been screwed up with saves ever since the old upload system was hacked.

Got it. I'll look at the save now and see which are our best production cities.

On the Heroic Epic situation, there isn't an obvious solution. I guess Alexandria is best with Pi-Rameses second. I wouldn't build it in the capital, and putting it in Moai City doen't feel right.

Yup, I agree, Alexandria would be my choice as well. It also has acces to the sea, while Moai will drop more in hammer output once the GA is over.

Concerning the war: if we continue, Tlacopan and Cempoala would be nice prices, especially the former for the wines.

There's a trade available to get theology and banking for printing press from Catherine. Should we adopt a religion (Christianity) and make use of theocracy?

I've played 10 turns, and we are now only 3 turns away from Rifling!

I built lots of Cuirassiers, and Monty has nothing to match them. (He has just gotten Engineering, and has one pike).

The Heroic Epic was built in Alexandria, which should continue pumping units.

First I captured this city, for the loss of a Treb:

A couple of turns later, Tlacopan is ours, for no losses:

I left some units unmoved, so that the next player can deal with this situation:

I think we have enough units about to capture the city, and when we do, Monty will show little further resistance. However, maybe it is better to move deeper into his territory (towards Tenochtitlan), watch as he moves his stack onto open ground, and smack it there.

Very nice progress, ZPVCSPLFUIFDPEF (yes copy-pasted this). I believe the team needs to make a decision: do we continue this war as far as economically possible (the "You have chosen unwisely" option) or get peace and give LKendter his peaceful builders experiece back :). With rifling on the horizon, war is very attractive, but we should consider theocracy and a religion (too bad our GA ended).

Well, I would like to cripple Monty (e.g. by taking Calixtlahuaca, Tenochtitlan and Tlatelolco), and then we can go builder again if we want.

If we are going to completely wipe Monty out, then we should capture the cities bordering Boudica last, as she will probably DoW us as soon as she has a route to our borders.
