DMI XII - Imhotep's Legacy

:bump: :D

IT (264): Okay, let’s get this war over with. I scroll through all our cities, it seems we drafted a lot, and we still are mostly in military mode. But this particular war in this peacefull builders game is nigh on over. Our current stacks are large enough, so good work I’ll let the current builds finish and will then swap to rebuilding our economy. That’ll include a civics swap to Free speech and Mercantilism (we have no foreign trade routes anyway). I mm Thebes to bring Oxford back to 10 turns from 14 turns and Giza’s bank to 10 turns.

Enter

T265
Move more units into position and upgrade some. Start building jewish missionaries in Memphis.

T266
Monty moves some units out in the open. Target practice! However, we lose one cavalry to a spearman at more than 90% odds.

T267 Take out some more units Monty foolishly keeps moving out in the open. Incite my first city revolt ever (!) in Malinalco and take the city.

Then I get a big surprise (which shouldn’t have been so great in hindsight): Boudica declares on us! We promptly loose Tlaxcala.

T268 Resuming play after I recovered from the initial shock. Taking Rolo’s advice I make peace with Monty getting his second-to-last city, Tula in the deal.

warpeace.gif

I move all available troops to Teotihuacan, including a tactical retreat from Malinalco. I promise the cowering citizens that Egypt will return.

T269 Memphis starts on a frigate to start harassing Boudica from the sea. Boudica starts a golden age. Ha, we’ll teach her.

T270 We lost Malinalco but we have a big stack nearby that starts taking out hers.
In the interturn Boudica suicides her remaining 10 units on our cavalry. We take them all out with no casualties. Maybe she would have fared better if she hadn’t used her catapults last.

T271 Alex is in WHEOOH-mode. He’s pleased with us but I trade him furs for dyes to make sure he won’t backstab us. This is supposed to be a peaceful game, right Lee? Taking back Malinalco from only 3 HA’s gives us another Great General. I’ll save him for a military academy.

T272 Steel is in, Military Science is next. For the Military academy as well as for building ships of the line. I finally, finally remember to switch to Mercantilism. It’s been available since forever. Here’s the difference:

MErc.jpg

We take Tlaxcala but loose 2 trebs and 2 cavalry against 90% odds.

Meanwhile Catherine vassalizes to Gandhi. Gandhi is starting to run away at the moment, but I’m sure we can regain any lost ground once our new cities get better developed.

T273 I’ve gathered a lot of troops in Tlaxcala, ready to invade Celtic territory. She doesn’t have that much units defending. No stack that I can see and only a couple of grenadiers, some cannon and musketman. The rest is knights and gallic warriors.
Oxford is in next turn. Maybe it’s time to get out of nationhood civic and start rebuilding and growing our cities. We have a lot of cavalry and some trebs that can be upgraded to cannon to start taking over Celtic cities. Somewhere in former Monty-land we should start building the FP. Keep an eye on Alex, he’s by far the most powerful nation right now.

Good set, MOC.

Boudica declaring shouldn't have been a suprise, but her timing couldn't be better :goodjob: It also saved us another war declarations :p

I feel we need to either take out Boudica completely or capitulate her, otherwise we will always have to watch our back. If she's pleased with any other AI, there's a chance she might capitulate to them causing another party to join in the war.

Once our economy are more stable, we need to either prepare an invasion SOD for the other islands or come up with a different VC other than war.

Lee, you were expecting a peaceful game. Do you have any suggestions for VC at this point?

I see it, I got it (and if MoC would actually attach the save could get get it :D), and I'll play it over the weekend. Well, Space Race is always an option. Bring our WONDERful egypt society up to the next stage... :)

What? I forgot to attach the save? That never happened before.:mischief: Or was it the other way around?

I might be offline tomorrow and Monday, so if I come up during those days, please skip/swap me.

I'm experiencing severe technical problems (my gamefiles are corrupted, I think), so I need to be put on indefinite skip.

Just a little update. I got swamped in work, but I'll definitely play & report tomorrow. Sorry for the delay.

@pholkherina:

Nice to see ya back. Do you want to play some turns'til Z is ready to go again :) ?

sorry but i'm starting my new teachign job on the 20th and have got to prepare, prepare, prepare until then. would love to, and thanks for the offer, but i can't right now.

(that's right, i'm turning down an SG ~ what is the world coming to)

As I said in another thread, I got a lot of sh!t on my mind lately. I greatly apologize for the delay. You're free to :whipped: me ;) !

Anyhow, on with the game. The three biggest madfmen in the game decided to engage in a frolicking threesome :D :

Never thought I'd say that ever, but: Poor Shaka...

The bald head has vassalized Cathy and comes begging:

No for this time.

MS came in.

Boudica makes a last desperate stand. But her units are cannon fodder (literally) for our superior army.

Military Academy erected at Thebes.

As Boudica is clearly a pushover I stopped building military and started our economic reshaping. One tech we needed:

Another stack of free XP.

Boy, the guy is hilarious :D .

Founded Gold City.

Boudica will talk peace. But as two major cities will fall next set we shouldn't take it :D .

We're fine at techs, but the AI are teching along the Physics path. As usual. We should finish off Steam Power => Assembly Line and head for SM and the Physics line then ourselves.

One of the greatest features of the new BUG build. You can now group units by orders (and other useful stuff too). So you see at a glance if units are on go-to's. Very useful for the first turns of a SG set!

My sugestion actually :p

Nice set.... too bad that LK is picking a lot of wars in this peaceful SG.... Well, we haven't DoW no one this game so far :p

Yes, Oxford resides in Thebes. Paired up with the NE  . Not the perfect combination, but better than to build them never...

Will be played today...

1826 AD
:hmm: A "peaceful builder's" game, and I get my second turn in a row with a war...

We have 20+ cities, 11 workers, and railroads are on the way. It looks like we have a major worker shortage.
(IT) I refuse to join Greece in a war vs. Shaka.
The Celts killed our ship to distract them away from the nets by Thebes.

1828 AD
We got a scientist. I will save him toward another golden age.

Our spy in Bibracte causes a revolt even though they are caught afterwards. We lost a few, almost ran out of attacking troops with movement points, but we get the prize.

We now own another shrine.
(IT) India thinks we might want divine right in a trade.

1830 AD
We begin to bombard down Verlamion.
(IT) Shaka just became a vassal of Alexander.

1832 AD
I just caught we are wasting most of our EP on Monty. I drop Monty to zero, and up our spending with Boudica.
(IT) Steam power research is completed, and I start on railroad. We have 2 sources of coal already mined. :)

1834 AD
Verlamion holds due to lack of attacking units. However, the majority of the defenders are dead.

1836 AD
This time we can capture the city.

(IT) Now the Greeks think we want divine right.

1838 AD
(IT) Gandhi built the Statue of Liberty.

I have stacks building up to take the next two cities.
