I tend to have the same dream/nightmare over and over. When I was little I had a nightmare all the time that slime oozed out of the lightswitch in my room and filled up my house and killed my parents. Now my nightmares are more reliving bad things that have happened to me, or reliving any situation but with something bad in it that never really happened. My dreams are usually just strage, like dreaming that the rest of the united states was really under my couch :s

I have been having a horrible string of nightmares every night for the last week. Normally I don't have nightmares....I wonder what is wrong.

PH, are you under stressed now that you are no longer a mod? ;)

One thing is for certain, if you die in a dream, you don't die in real life. (Unless I didn't really die in that dream... hmm...) I have dreams and nightmares and I can remember parts of them sometimes...

Freud said when you dreamt you were flying, you were dreaming about sex. So if you were dreaming about sex, what the heck are you REALLY dreaming about? Some dreams I can kind of figure out what they are about, and some are just strange... Like the burrito one...

A question: if you are in REM sleep and you wake up for some reason, will you almost immediatly return to that phase if you sleep again right away?

I'm not sure on this one, but I believe you will cycle back down faster. However, disruption of sleep like this is not good: in people who have sleep apnea (a condition where people stop breathing and wake up without being aware that they are constantly falling asleep and waking up, sometimes hundreds of times every night) the constant interruption keeps them from sleeping in the way we should.

Another one: that's the phase when you are in your deepest sleep, isn´t it? Because I noticed that if I sleep between 1.30 h and 2:30 h and then wake up, I'll have about 20 minutes when my head is a mess. It's like I take quite a while to readapt to reality again. But this doesn't happen if I sleep less or more than that. I allways thought that this would be an indication of the time I needed to get into deep sleep.

Typically, it takes about 90 minutes for a person to cycle through the 5 stages of sleep. So yes, in about an hour and a half, a person should have had a period of deep sleep. Judging from what you say, it seems you are being aroused from a deep sleep stage, and perhaps you're having some sort of difficulty making the transition from Stage 4 to REM sleep.

I tend to not remember my dreams unless something was significant about them. I've had a few occasions where I solved a problem in a dream, and immediately woke up with the answer I had been looking for. That's a cool feeling. Also, if my subconcious is trying to "tell" me something, I tend to remember that. Finally, if a dream is really disturbing I might remember it. Last night, for instance, I had a dream about nuclear war. Very disturbing...

But as for the normal brain-takes-out-the-trash type of dream, those I don't remember.

Right now I'm dreaming about a thread where people talk about dreams. I can't get the stupid dream to end.

DIE! YOU STUPID DREAM! DIE!

Funny, right now I'm having a dream where someone with nothing to add to the discussion is spamming up the thread. I really wish I could wake up.

One way to teach yourself to remember your dreams is to keep a dream log. Immediately after awakening from a dream, write down everything you remember about the dream. Over time, this will help you to remember your dreams better. Remembering your dreams is the first step towards the absolute coolest type of dream - the lucid dream, where in the dream you realize that you are dreaming. At that point, you can begin to control the dream, and the real fun starts!

:jump:
I have done that before it was great. In my dream I was at my school in my spanish class and then I realized that IT WAS SUMMER VACATION! IM NOT IN SCHOOL! THIS MUST BE A DREAM So I left my spanish class, flew around smacked people upside the head, droped those huge pipes overhead on people, flew to the front of the line for food and ate eveything in there. but when I went outside it was raining.
So in my dream I yelled out I COMMAND YOU TO STOP RAINING OR I WILL WAKE UP AND YOU WON'T EXIST! but the stupid rain didn't stop so I woke up.
I was glad of that dream but I still kinda get pissed that I couldn't stop the rain. Mabey it has something to do with living in Oregon ;)
anyway I usually do remember my dreams.

People dream several times a night. I think one is a nightmare, too. I onlt took one course about this ares, so I don't know much about it.

I may have to pay more attention when I am asleep to my dreams. My last dream was about 4 months ago. They come by extremely infrequently. I don't really know why, just that I have never been able to dream nightly, or weekly, since I was young. No fun to not have dreams, because they are quite fun :) .

I dream regually. Sometimes my dreams are very scary, like when i dream about people trying to kill me. Sometimes they are very cool, like the time when I went driving around and around places with Johnathan Davis (KoRn's vocalist), or sometimes just wetrd like when i got chased by wolves and then jumped in a X-wing and attacked a tank only to get shot down and then get killed by the tank. Sometimes I dream about my girlfriend, and it feels like it's for real, just real life situations where we are in social gatherings and stuff before all your dirty minds get to work. Once I dreamed I was in a cave fighting mutants. My brain is werid.

I tried that once but then realized It was the first day of school. Then I got expelled and that sucked

Maybe your subconscious is trying to tell you something. :)

On a more serious note, it's probably cause you're switching to a day job and your mind/body are making adjustments or something. ;)

Most of my dreams are the kind that I can control, and they always have been back to when I was little. It can be kind of a drag after a while though, because I'm not actually accomplishing anything in these dreams and there's usually something I am looking forward to doing the next day, so I keep waking myself up over and over to see if it's morning yet. :crazyeye:

I do dream once in a while, but I don't recall having nightmares for a long time. But often, when I experience nightmares, they very often involve disaster.

I feel bad for anyone who thinks they do not dream or who thinks that remembering one's dreams is frivolous. I love dreams. It seems that the more boring my life is, the more interesting my dreams become! Needless to say, I've had alot of interesting dreams lately. But seriously, I love dreaming, I wish I could think so creatively and vividly in my everyday life. The thing I hate about dreams is that they fade, often if I have a very emotional dream, the feeling will remain though the details blur and fade away.

If I could invent one thing it would be a dream VCR, so I could capture my dreams and analyze them, not through some method or system but using my own intuition.

As for nightmares, I rarely have the scary kind (where my life is in peril). I do however often have dreams of being trapped in a place or situation (these undoubtably come from my time spent at the many "alternative" (read as "Reform") schools I had the pleasure (sarcasm) of attending during my adolescence.

The last "real" nightmare I remember having was in first grade. I dreamed I was at school, it was snowing out and all the class went out for recess. For some reason I couldn't move fast enough and I remember vividly as the last kid exiting the room and the door slammed behind him. At this point the floor began to open up and I caught a glimpse of the fiery hell below. That one freaked me out for years to come.
