I like it, it gives you a kind of a high to stand in front of hundreds of people and have them listen to what you say :) .

I only do it prepared though, I'm not good at completely improvised speeches and would not volunteer to hold one.

Shocking poll results.
I hate it, i even hate going to the blackboard. :( But i guess it's ok when those who are listening to you have no clue about what you are saying but have to act as if they pay attention because the teacher is there - that's usually the case. :D

Everytime I go into Public I make a public speaking.

Even if it is to strangers who make a completly ******** statement, I cannot keep myself from going into a rant that catches the public attention usually ending with me walking away more irritated then ever at the people's stupidity.

I've got no strong feelings for or against public speaking in general.

I however absolute loathe to speak publicly for the purpose of speaking publicly. Take high school as an example; I had nothing against presenting a projected I'd done before the class, but I hated those presentations about random subjects you had to do in Swedish class to show that you can speak publicly. If I'm to speak publicly, I want it to be because I've got something to say.

4) Public speaking for me is the worst. Whenever i am about to get up to give my speech for oral com, I feel like I am at a hanging, and I have to just accept my fate. Thats how bad it gets for me, and is the only way I can console myself.

It's great, it's fun, and it's stressful. Good about the first two, so what about the last?

:D

Uncomfortable and terrified of it.

can't stand it anymore.

The worst is when you teach different sections of the same course and you end up repeating yourself three times a week.

Uncomfortable with it, but not scared of it.

If I have to do it, I will (even though I get horribly nervous and stutter when I talk).

I hate doing presentations and proposal to my superiors, because i do not respect their opinions and it shows...I like doing public speaking as a performer or as a teacher maybe because i am quite good at it, i wasn't always good at it and therefore hated doing it. Im quite amazed by this polls really, one of the greatest fear by most people, taken in survey is public speaking. I must conclude that the survey must be wrong.

depend on the size of the crowd.

If 5-50 im ok
50-200 so so
200-1000 ok, dont mind my perspire.
1000-2000 man, i better know what im talking about
2000- XXXX I will be damn if i f*** this up...

For me, crowd size isn't much a factor. Crowd intimacy is, though.

I too am amazed. I do wonder, though, if the cfc population is different, or that of new generations (in which 2/3s call themselves extroverts, compared to the 1/3 pre-baby boom or whatever the numbers are), or some other factor.

All my experience with public speaking has been in the classroom. Since anything is better than spending 100 minutes in a class writing notes about 'Ode to a Grecian Urn' I have learned to love public speaking especially since I do it better than most people. However, giving a speech in a foreign language is awful.

I like it.

A large crowd might intimidate me a little bit, but I'm a rather glib person and it's easy to settle 'em down.
