My political compass score is -7.5, -6.51. Obviously, that isn't too centrist. :p

I aim to be a centrist, but admit I lean a bit left.

That's at least in Canadian terms, though I'd say the Canadian centre is roughly on par with the "world average" (i.e. left of America and Britain but right of continental Europe).

Values are inherently non-tradeable and freedoms differ in that aspects from ordinary goods. I cannot trade values in the same way I cannot 'buy' the ability to like the colour red. I can have the freedom to use a chair if I own it, that 'freedom' I can trade. But I cannot trade the freedom to own goods. I can give my life away, but I cannot give someone else the freedom to live by that action alone.

I laid out my pov in full detail here. Feel free to read it and comment on it.

Is it your oppinion that 'society' can manifest itself the same way a person can?

hmm... don't really understand your question. Society is very different from a person. Why do they need/can manifest themselves similarly?

Or maybe, do you have a set of first assumptions, which to use when you apply logic in this field?

I sure do; although I am a bit hazy on those. It is extremely difficult to come up with a solid set of axioms to logically derive the rest of your philosophy from.

I see myself as a "Centrist" in the sense that I don't find my views all that radical or extreme. Many would probably consider me a right-wing extremist though. ;)

It depends on the issue.

I see capitalism as something that needs to be done away with, so I guess I qualify as an extremist on that matter.

On most contemporary political debates in the US, I am definately in the middle, to a great extent because I think the parties stopped actually discussing the issues a long time ago. For example, I think abortion should be legal, but heavily regulated, and difficult to get.

On most matters I find my opinions sometimes change, whether from new arguments or new evidence, and that willingness to consider new information is probably what makes a 'moderate' or 'centrist'.

No I don't, I'm far right fiscally and far left socially.

Extremely eclectic. :D Like betazed, I need much more than 2 dimensions to locate my politics. If you recognize many dimensions, you're bound to find yourself extreme in some of them and centrist in others. Barring some bizarre personality disorder, that is ;)

By the standards of the political compass score I am very much a centrist. That was quite a shock to me, and more so to my wife. I'd always considered myself a right-wing extremist nutjob.

No. But I'm not an extremist. I push for a mixing of right and left economics (small time capitalism with welfare, and breaking up the largest corporations); because the political compass test isn't really that precise, I just get labeled as -9.75 or something. Socially, I am more of an extreme libertarian.

Right-wing, yes, extremist, no.

Yes, I do see myself as an centrist... escpecially seeing my political score thing was pretty close to 1,1.

Although, It could just be that I am too lazy to bother forming any opinions.

WTH is the political compass? Someone link to it or something please?

Well, I, like sysphus, aim my cross hairs towards the middle. But my bullet always seems to stray a la izquierda. Might be the wind.:p

Granted, I am not an extremist (more so a center lefty, i'd say), and consider myself rational, willing to hear any opinion. But its as though i'm in a tug of war, and those red devils are winning by an ever so slight margin.:)

Also like eyrei said, I can be extremist on some things, and more cautious and moderate on others. Depends on what you serve me.

I ain't positively sure about my political beliefs. They just come out of my pores.:crazyeye:

I'm cool.:king:

I'm a real, slam-bang, honest-to-goodness, three-fisted socialist. I know where I stand next to you people.
