I know almost everyone here is to FAR left, so this is kind of pointless, I guess, but do you think that the continued occupation of Iraq is justified?

I say yes. We got in there, and it is our duty to finish what we started. We should stay there and reduce the terrorist thread as much as possible. When the government WE put there is stable, we should leave.

PLEASE READ:But in the mean time, if we leave, another dictatoship will take power (openly terrorist supporting) and we will have another war that will cause the 3000 dead in Iraq to be wasted lives, and will cause another 3000 dead in the next war, not counting those dead in terrorist attacks founded by the new regime.

So what do you think on my arguments?

i agree that once we screw up we should take responsibility. America is the 18 year old boy that got his girlfriend knocked up. We gotta stay there now until it's stable. But we're not doing a good job of making it stable now.

and the bolded part just made me lol.

I never, never have supported the Iraq War itself, but right now I support American military occupation.

The US started the mess, they should clean it up.

This has got to be the funniest thing I've read on the forum this week

Well, its true.

And this was supposed to be a poll, will a go...I mean, Mod, make it? (choices, yes and no?)

No, I don't support this Iraq War. IMO, Bush is just waging his father's "unfinished war". Regardless of the arguments, I still see that we should just pull out ASAP and let them fend for themselves.

I really don't think it's anybody's honest estimation that we should withdraw outright at this point.

I mean, aside from those who are incredibly naive and ignorant on the subject matter. Sort of like those that got us in there in the first place.

Yeah, Like Hillary Clinton.

Hillary Clinton: When I'm president, I'll bring the troops home."

Stephen Colbert: Yeah, when your president, we'll bring the troops back on FLYING PIGS, that is, if it isn't to cold, withe HELL HAVING FROZEN over.

YAY I leveled the board.

I really shouldn't put this up, should I?

EDIT: Thank you whoever raised our side.

I really shouldn't put this up, should I?

No

You had no duty to get in there. It was done under false pretences. The majority of the world, not being a far right cfc poster, will remember this for a long time.
There was no terrorist threat in Iraq until the US started its ham fisted messing with things it didn't understand.
In case you've forgotten the party line, the US wanted to install democracy ().
So you're kind of giving the game away by talking about governments WE put there.
It's for the people, sunshine, you know, those bipeds with memories.
But in the mean time, if we leave, another dictatoship will take power (openly terrorist supporting) and we will have another war that will cause the 3000 dead in Iraq to be wasted lives, and will cause another 3000 dead in the next war, not counting those dead in terrorist attacks founded by the new regime.
I presume the figure you supplied refers to American soldiers dead. The breathtaking contempt you display for the tens or hundreds of thousands of others killed is a clear example of the thinking that caused this screw up in the first place. There's a world out there, bub.
So what do you think on my arguments?
Naive, pathetic, contemptible.

It depends on what you mean "support".

Do I think we should be there now or have been there ever? No. Do I think we should pull out today? No. Do I think something needs to happen in the US' favor in the near future? Yes. Do I support the troops? Yes. Can I see a solution that doesn't involve the continued deaths of either A)US soldiers or B)Iraqi People? No.

The Bush administration did a terrible job of planning this war and gathering intelligence for the war. Congress did a worse job of reading, interpreting, and analyzing the situation before the war. We, the people, did the worst thing by dividing ourselves while our soldiers continue to suffer, and the Iraqi people suffer more. A solution needs to be found, and fast.

Nope. Never did in the first place. I asked everyone I knew why we were still going through after the inspectors found no WMDs. Never got my answer.

Pre-invasion: no terrorists in Iraq.

Post invasion: terrorists everywhere.

Mission Accomplished?

but do you think that the continued occupation of Iraq is justified?

No. Holding a nation in civil war is always kind of stupid.

Wow, they really just made me want to change my mind. I have suddenly seen the light, and realized my communist viewpoints. Or... not. The idea that our withdrawal must end in dictatorship is incredibly simplistic.

It is truly incredible how many people miss the fact that Steven Colbert is satirizing conservatives.

I know almost everyone here is to FAR left, so this is kind of pointless, I guess, but do you think that the continued occupation of Iraq is justified?

I am not now and have never been a leftist of any kind, but I do not support the continued occupation of Iraq, any more than I supported the invasion.

I say yes. We got in there, and it is our duty to finish what we started. We should stay there and reduce the terrorist thread as much as possible. When the government WE put there is stable, we should leave.

It was a bad idea to go there in the first place, and it's a bad idea to stay. The terrorist threat you speak of did not exist in Iraq before the invasion--or at least, not in the parts of Iraq over which Saddam Hussein still had effective control. As for the government we put there, I say let it fall. A government that owes its existence solely to the presence of foreign troops is inherently illegitimate.

We'll only have another war in Iraq if we start it, just like we started this one. As for terrorism, most terrorist attacks since 9/11 have been directed at US military forces in Iraq and as such would not happen if we didn't have troops there, and 9/11 itself was a response (though a totally unjustifiable one) to US military activities in the Islamic world and to US support for Israel.

So what do you think on my arguments?

Nothing I haven't heard before.

I believe in democracy. I don't know better than Iraqis themselves what is best for them.
