He sent me two long emails explaining the irregularities in his POWERgraph. I am somewhat convinced by his explantions...
Markstar suggested that I should split the HOF into Custom Map games and random map games sectins... I think I will do that (or at least add an extra column to the tables indicating whether the map is Custom or random). <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0>

First of all I want to say something, I'm not connected to the web, for this motive I'm not updated so fast to the "news" and my e-mails.
I read your article about my record, I want to explain a question (that I understood, because english is not my native language) that was written there:
The Roman civilization did not found a city because the only square available for this was a mountain. You can test this creating a new map. I don't know if someone realized that the computer never founds cities on mountains and artic (or ice, I don't know how this terrain type is called on Civ2 because I have the Portuguese Version). And I preferred to let Rome on a
Mountain because the defense bonus is higher than artic (or ice), this way it was easier for Rome to survive probable Barbarians attacks.
The other's civilizations graph were that way because Rome, of course even found 1 city, and Babylon that was destroyed at the beginning of the game, even had a chance to develop.
The max number of cities is 255. So it's important to be sure that the computer won't found any city, because I can found all the 255's whereas our friend Hulk Hogan
II found just 254. The last city I found on my game achieved the level 46. It means that I have 20 happy citzens and 26 entertainers. 2 X 20 + 26 = 66. Only with this merely city, I got 8,5% aproximatelly. Test it!
My objective playing that game was to put my name on HOF. I didn't care if it would challenge me or not, I liked that map because I didn't need ships to colonizate
and to be worried with attacks from others civilizations. When I want to have fun, I play with Japan on "world_s.map", with just one city, and then conquer the world.
As I didn't have to go to war, I played on Democracy the most important part of the game. With Democracy, when my cities became well structurized, I increased luxuries rates to provoke "Thanksgiving Festivals" for cities grow until the 41 level. It's very important to do this as fast as posible for the cities achieve the max levels.
Perhaps you don't know, but air bases are
like "Double Irrigation". Notice that on Oasis I made Mine, Railroad and Air Base. This way, on Democracy, I have 6 of food (air base with supermarket), 7 of shields
(mine, railroad, Factory, Hoover Dam and Manufecturing Plant) and 4 or 5 of "trade" (river, railroad and Highway). If you don't know test it!
I really don't know why my graph was that way. Perhaps because I destroyed Babylon and in some details of the game is like that the Romans dídn't exist. So my graph jumped to the max and then felt when the Barbarians apeared, so Barbarians were the proof that I
were not alone on the game.
Perhaps because of the population. The higher population displayed is 320,000,000, and If you really check my real population, it is almost 2.5 bilion people. And as someone said on your article, in one turn I
can "have" 320,000,000, then I press end of turn and hundreds of millions of people simply "disapear".
Unfortunatelly, the game has some limits. As I said before, we can just found 255 cities. The peace bonus points are just 100. And there are just 255 Future Techs to be discovered.
So I reached the following limits:
25 - Barbarians
100 - Peace
560 - Wonders
400 - Spaceship
+ 1275 (255 X 5) - Future Tehcs
-----
2360 (307% aprox.) + population points = final score
For this reason, it is very important to achieve the max level on all the 255 cities and to play on Democracy Goverment.
All the "resource squares" have to be "wheat" or "Oasis"/other resource of Tundra, because they provide 6 of food. The rest have to be changed to Grassland which provides 4 of food. I just found a city
if there is a resource square on the city area. For this motive my "piggest" cities reach the level 43.
e.g.: 1 resource - 6 of food
20 Grassland - 4 of food (4 X 20 = 80)
So, 80 + 6 = 86
86 : 2 = level 43, which means 63 of score
Note: I prefer Oasis than that resource of Tundra that I don't know the English name for it because I can mine an Oasis whereas I can't do it on the other terrain.
My cities are between sizes 43 and 46, 1 or 4 resources.
My city size rate was 43,7, so each city provide me aprox. 63,7 of population score. Which means that if I multiply this number for 255 (number of cities) I have
aprox. 16248 plus the 2360 points of achievements is equal to my score.
I read what Hulk Hogan II wrote and have my preferences in certain points:
* 255 cities instead of 254 as already explained;
* I really like rivers, he said he doesn't like so much. I like it because I don't need to make road to obtain "trade", and it helps a lot because of the movement;
* It's much better to let a Civilization stucked, like the Romans, than face the risk of a surprise attack. Note: My objective was just to achieve the higher score I could, and not to be challenged.
* My favorite Goverment type is Democracy. I don't care if most of the players prefer Fundamentalism. I always say to my friends that Everybody has his own
style.
Perhaps you realized that I'm a veteran player. It's because I played Snes's Civ, Computer's Civ and Civ2. And this is not my first Deity Game that I reached more than 2000%. As a good learner, I always learn some tricks every Deity "record" games I played. I don't know if you trust me or not, and perhaps I will prove it to you sending a new game.
In a new game case, I will improve my record at least on 10% and I won't tell how, it will be a surprise. I will use the same map with little changes. And I will encourage and teach some strategies to my friends, to let them the chance of break a record.
By the way, it will take a few months if I decide to play a new game.
P.S.: I wouldn't care, but as I played with my country, wrote my homecity in capital letters and send Special Thanks to my friends, I will probably try to
clean my name, country and friends.
P.S.2: I can't tell you if Hulk Hogan II cheated or not. Frankly, I even understood well about cheat. I'm not a programmer and don't know how to change the game. For me, just Sid Meier and Hackers could do this. Of
course I know there is a cheat mode, but I don't know how to cancel it. The only cheat I know is to save the game before attacking an opponent or enter a goody box.

Hi thunderfall,
I think I discovered why my powergraph was that way. I think the Barbarian theory that I explained in the previous e-mail is right, but I have a solution. Next time I won't let the Barbarians free to make that "dips"
on my graph, and I think I won't destroy the other civilization in the beggining of the game, if I do this I would conquer the world, because the other civlization
will be on that island, and my graph will go uphill very soon.
My next game will be in the same map with just little changes. By the way, have you already tested that things that I told you? You can see that what I did is possible
without the cheat mode.
I was thinking to make food trade rotes between the cities to increase the population, but it won't be possible because there won't be time available for this,
it would be possible on another level as Chieftain, for example, because there are more turns. Because of this, I will just increase about 3% instead the 10% I told you
before.
I will select just 3 Civilizations and that option to restart civilization will be off. The graph of the others civilizations will be like it was in the last game, but my civilization's graph will be different
because I discovered a way to fool the Barbarians. I will explain it when I send my game to you, and I will also send my map.
In Portuguese we have characters like that áéíóúçãõ. I'm sending to you a game with just one city called "áéíóúçãõ" just to know if your Civ2 accepts these characters. It's important to know this because there are cities here in Brazil with these characters, like Brasília (the Capital) and São Paulo (the most important city of the country). On the game I sent to you, I didn't put these characters because I didn't know what would happen when you open my game. But if the English version accepts it, now I will write the original cities names.
I'm also sending to you the Rom of Civilization for SNes. In my opnion it's much better than the Computer version of Civilization. I played this game for a long
time and when I got Civ2 it was very easy for me.
Do you think the #1 cheated because of the graph? I will tell you something. A few months ago, I downloaded the 3 better records, at that time were of Roger H.,
Srdjan and Joel T. If you think that the Roger's powergraph is a little bit weird, I think the Joel's record is more. I just took a quick look, and I found that the city called "Zeppelin" was in famine by 126
grains! And also with a production of -65. So, how could this city suport its units? If you want to ignore the "weird" records like mine, you should also do the same with Roger and Joel. Oh, and I just looked these 3
records, perhaps if you pay attention to the records you can find something "weird".
