DocT4-How to Rise as a Ruler (RaR Training SG)

Hey DocT, how are the turns going? Have you had time to play?

...Or did you really gift the capitol to Spanish and now you don't dare to hand the save over :lol: :mischief:

Cultural victory sounds good for my ear. Let's go for it. I play way too few games where the victory is something else than domination / conquest.

I agree, it seems to be the most interesting variant and my experience with cultural victories is limited, too.

Cultural would be fine, but I would like a chance to see each of the different military units (especially the modern age ones) in battle.

Maybe we should concentrate on settling the remaining available space and save Spain for the next set of weaponry.

Culture sounds like a good idea, hey those monoliths will come in handy after all ;).

How hard is it in comparison to a epic game cultural win? and how will this change our builds?

Gah, time to read the civpedia again :)

Tibet, 250AD

Ok, let’s go for Culture! :) (Btw, we have about 4x the culture of Spain, and the 2 top cities).

Thanks Tarasconus for the inspiration!

Doh' – Isabella dared to place Zaragossa where I want a city. That one has to go. :satan: - no Iron for her.

Cities:
Not much to change. I do switch Leh to the FP, that simply is a great city spot.

Research to max, saves one turn.
Buy Seafaring from Spain for Drama and 40gp.
Enter.

Sikkhim Colossus->Academy

Turn 1: 260AD
Please don’t leave units on goto!
Whack a Barb camp in the S.
IBT:
Feudalism-> Crop Rotation
Lhasa Temple->Theatre, Gartokh Ghurka->Shrine, Iekundo Ghurka->Shrine

Turn 2: 270AD
Our Longship has to cross exactly 2 Ocean tiles to find the next landmass (and a Persian Galley) to the SE :lol:
Persia lacks 2nd tier AA techs like Fermentation and Mathematics :rotfl:
Sell them those two techs for 220gp.
Sell off our Worker Housings (they obsolete with Feudalism; while they still show to give one Happy Face, that is not true).
Run our Workers to Barracks city for upgrading to Peasants.
Kill a Roman Champ and a Barb Horse for 2 Slaves.
IBT:
Sikkhim Academy->Temple

Turn 3: 280AD
Zzzz…

Turn 4: 290AD
Zzzz…
IBT:
Crop Rotation->Invention (on the way to Milling)

Fix riots, start irrigating.
IBT:
We become a Democracy.

Turn 7: 320AD
We can indeed research Milling in 2 @0gpt.

Turn 8: 330AD
Since Cumae’s borders have expanded, I start attacking it. 2 dead Spears, one Slave, one elite Elephant, Rome is history.
IBT: Milling->Stirrup
Use TBP to switch Lhasa to a Windmill, rush it.
Lhasa WM-> Chichen Itza, Leh FP-> Granary

Turn 9: 340AD
Bankrupt Spain and Persia. Rush some culture.
IBT:
Sikkhim Port->Wind Mill, Cumae Shrine->Courthouse, Pompeji CH->Harbor, Oma Shrine->Harbor

Turn 10: 350AD
Zzz..

NOTES:
*We still have about 4 times the culture of Spain :lol:
*Don’t think Persia has any other contacts; when they have gp, sell them whatever you feel like.
*I would raze Zaragosa in a limited war without triggering our GA; I prefer Spain to have no iron for some more time (she still has another source in the tundra to the N).
*Or: Connect another Sugar for them, and trade for it.
*I want to get 3 Courthouses before finishing Chichen Itza; otherwise we have to build those from scratch to be able to build District Courthouses.

Turn Log 3

Turn 0 – 350 AD – Not much to change, but I do decide to disband a regular Jomon Warrior, since he’s costing us 2gpt and we shouldn’t need to upgrade him, also wake up an Asian Spearman in Cozhe and send him to follow the Asian Pioneer

Turn 9 – 440 AD – Leif sinks another BG – NE Elephants try to block Spanish Settler – Several times I pondered trading for clockworks & athletics, but the price (3 techs) never seemed worth it

IBT: Leh Hardy Pioneer->Guild Hall – Gerze Forge->Monument

Turn 10 – 450 AD – NE Elephant runs from 2 BH – NW settler almost to spot – I’ve sent a settler NE and have another one about to complete hoping we’ll be able to keep that Spanish settler away from anything we want and maybe build a city chain to the SP – I built 3 courthouses and have the fourth completing next turn – I made my science decisions based on resources, units and culture items and stayed away from the optional techs – I built all those monuments because they are cheap and produce 1cpt – Please critique as needed.

According to the roster, it is my turn again (Gyathaar has dropped out).No sign of Knappagh1, too (he could have jumped in for the turn he has missed last round). So this is a got it.

Spain connected a second sugar source, but when I went to the trade screen they had no resources/luxuries available for trade.

I went for Guilds to get the production/tax increase and Scientific Theory as a stepping stone to education. I would think we should try to start adding libraries & universitites sometime soon.

We've probably got enough elephants (7-8) to run a brief war with Spain. We can build the Royal Tournament and a couple of Knights of the Realm would probably help.

I kept checking Persia and each time they'd spend their full treasury for drama. I was waiting until we could get full value.

Being that this is monarch, is there any reason to go for Circus Maximus?

EDIT: The roster...

DocT
Denyd
Pfeffersack - just played
Knappagh1 - Up! (?)
Tinkez - on Deck, up if Knappagh skips again/has dopped out
Disenfrancised

I do not have time to play tonight as DocT5 was up today. I'll try to grab this tomorrow unless Knappagh shows up.

Knappagh - Take this if you can! Remember to post "Got it".

I played my turns as Knappagh apparently has gone missing in action. He hasn't posted for a long time.

Pre-Turn:

Change preferences to show units over cities.

There seems to be blue borders east of Persia. Rush 2 longboats in coastal cities. We need contacts!

Spain needs our attention as they have quite a lot ancient age techs that we can take in peace :D

Hit enter.

IBT:

Scholasticism comes in and WE GET SGL! Dalai Lama appears!
Start Education, further goal Absolutism and Absolute Monarchy as government.

560AD:

Sell Polytheism to Persia for 96gp+4gpt
Dalai Lama to Sikkim where I'll build Leonardo's workshop (+100% science in town + 2 free advances)

570AD:

Accidentally move SGL into forest, Leonardo will be delayed by 1 turn.

IBT:

Astronomy -> Fundamentalism (only tech in 1 as we get 2 more next turn)

580AD:

Setting troops ready for war against Spain

IBT:

Fundamentalism -> Political Philosophy.
Lhasa Heroic Epic -> town clock.
Sikkim Leonardo -> GOLDEN AGE! WHOOPS. :mischief: :p Did not think about that... Sorry about that.
Leonardo gives us Political philosophy and matchlock. Start Astronomy.

590AD:

Well, now there's no reason to delay the war - ghurkas can be used. Declare the war on Spain.
Kill spanish inquistador.(1-0)

IBT:

Astronomy -> Navigation.

600AD:

Kill 2 spearmen in Zaragosa and take the city. Get 1 slave. (3-0)
Kill 1 bowman next to Zaragosa. (4-0)
Capture Pamplona at the cost of 1 samurai (6-1).

IBT:

Navigation -> map making (no more hurry to Absolutism, won't do revolution under GA)
Spanish counter-attack : win 1, lose 1 (7-2)
Americans complete pyramids.

610AD:

Woh? We have a hardy pioneer fortified in Gartokh. Totally missed that one...send him S. Please do not fortify settlers in towns. :crazyeye:

620AD:

Kill 3 more spaniards, but lose an elite jumbo against a wounded (4/5) imp. guard (10-3)

IBT:

Map making -> absolutism.

630AD:

Finish off the wounded imperial guard with ghurka (11-3).
Currency to Persia for WM+93gp

IBT:

Absolutism -> Theory of Warfare.

640AD:

Our longship reaches the blue borders north-east of Persia.
Rutog is founded in S.
Attack on Vitoria - 2 dead spanish spears and a new tibetian city (13-3).

IBT:

ToW -> Physics.

650AD:

We meet the Americans. They have 3262gp and have just entered middle age.
Trade Usury for WM+480gp. Not a bad trade as we now see indians, english, koreans and partly russians and arabs and the capital of celts :D
Our junk can meet arabs next turn if it survives a barb ship.
Set the junk on southern route around the foreign continent.
And that was a good choice : Meet an english galley (they were on the upper route)
Finish my turns by killing 2 spaniards (15-3).

Notes:

Not much to say. I'd take couple of more spanish cities as they are not much of a resistance (take their core!)
There are several boats coming up soon - change if need to. We now have good map and few more contacts, so that many boats are not necessary.
Also, as we're going for cultural, I would slowly assemble a task force to grab more cultural land from the Persians.
Sikkim is building Copernicus - keep that as it'll increase the science a furthermore 100%.
Keep improving the good cities first - Lhasa is still mainly unimproved (mountains!). Also Sikkim needs more attention.
Lot's of trading opportunities coming up soon...

Good luck to next one! :goodjob:

Got it but I won't be able to play till thursday as newly being 21 requires me to be drunk today and hungover tomorrow :)

It probably won't come up in my turns but are we planning on pushing the Spainish into the eastern ocean in this war or the next? also how long will we be able to sustain this war in democracy

:bday: Disenfrancised! Remember to behave at 4 a.m. :mischief: (see, no mention to behave good or bad, it's up to you :lol: )

The idea of Theaters is good, we should start building them. We can get good amount of cash from America for techs, but wait until we meet a couple more civs. Then just burn the cash on theaters.

This arrangement also enables us to keep high sci-rate -> we get now a tech/turn!

Are there any resources/luxuries that we should be on the look out for that we don't already have access to on the home island?

Is there any reason to leave Spain in the game?

It seems like the Persians would be the next target (backward tech, isolated). Which ships would be the best for the hauling a small invasion force safely to their island?
