Still back on topic. Solo games (prince/monarch) I tend to look for a religion and shrine and spread it around but I'm much more careful about adopting a state religion; its a balance between religious civics and abandoning religious neutrality.

And why is it so hard to make the AI vote for you? If you don't have the same religion as them they will most likely abstain. And it's so hard to get missionaries out early!

I'm now playing on emperor on a continent. I'm hindu (self-founded) and my two neightbours (Viccy and Mehmet) are buddhists. This s***s. They don't want openborders, don't want to trade, and Viccy already declared war twice. If you found Hinduism, you of course immidiately go Hindu, but if you don't have the luck others take your religion, you have to rethink it..

you're a poet.. I went to non-religion and it went immediately far, far better on the diplomatic front. Lesson: no religion is better than an other religion.
