UPDATE EIGHTEEN
The end of Ulm
All over the
Mictlan empire, with the exception of the island of Eriu, a terrible blight has struck. Crops are diseased and thousands of persons died. This phenomenon is obviously of magical origin. In the desert of a hundred tombs, where crops are already hard to grow, the situation was mitigated somewhat by immediate actions of the local authorities which used their reserves to feed some of the population.
Mictlanese troops disembark in
Shinuyamaisland of Kitajima and take it easily against a weak bakemono resistance.
The vanir of
Vanheim celebrate the reign of Thordai and build up the infrastructure of their province. In Helheim, accidents in a mine caused the death of many workers and a loss of gold.
In Baikal, a group of
Arshnoc patriots raised a militia to defend their country from invasion.
Priests in Dark woods managed to convince some inhabitants to forgive the state for their past mistakes.
Deadly diseases spread in Arshnoc.
The forts of T'ien Ch'i have been stormed by Abysian and Lankan forces. Lankan wizards summoned imps that flew over the enemy walls and then sent their heavy infantry against the defenders.
After a short but bloody fight, T'ien Ch'i fell to the might of Lankan and Abysian forces.
Further north in Ural, Shinuyamans from the east and Arshnoc troops from Caelum converged into Ural where they relieved the besieged troops. This resulted in a battle between Jotunheim and Arshnoc.
Most of Jotunheim army was destroyed. Only Magni, a few wizards and several niefel giants managed to escape and flee to Utgard.
Lanka marshes spread deadly diseases among the population. In Ashdod, several amurite giants joined Lanka armies.
In
Ermor, Etimmu the Wraith Lord came to serve the Emperor. Etimmu once lived in the land of the Sauromancers. He learned their secrets and used them to establish a kingdom of terror in a distant land. He gave himself the title of Priest King and made his people worship him as a god. Etimmu used his dark powers to summon Black Servants to aid him. The temples, the towers, and the palaces were all filled with walking Shades. Etimmu and his servants were finally slain by Udum'ukinna, the son of Ekishnugal, and his Sauromancers. Etimmu was given further powers and immortality by the King of the Underworld. Etimmu rides a horrible, flayed spectral horse into battle.
In Slavia, many undead rose from the Mound of ancient kings, joining their forces to the already massive Ermor undead army.
The combined armies of Ermor and Pythium invaded Ulm. Masses of undead backed by some legionaires and wizards attacked Ulm soldiers.
The battle was long and most Ulm soldiers fought to the death. Their wizards managed to kill many undead and a few of Pythium wizard priests. After beating Ulm armies, Celes tried to destroy the monolith, but it proved too hard a task for even him. Inside Ulm's dominion, Celes's strength was far from enough to even liftt the stone, and even less to harm it. As legionaires were called to dig around the huge slab of stone and strike it down, the monolith managed to evocate divine light that destroyed some of Ermor wizards, but it was finally struck down.
After their victory and the destruction of the monolith, Ermor undead army occupied the province, destroying Ulm temples but leaving the population alone. However, Pythian soldiers started capturing slaves and killing all those they couldn't catch. As a result, Ulm peasants fought the invaders, and soon, Pythian soldiers were received with pitchforks and fought. Although Pythium legionaires hadn't suffered many casualties on the battlefield, their campaign of pillage and destruction caused them to lose many soldiers, who were met by peasants and old veterans, local knights who wouldn't die without a fight.
Ulm had been the most populated and richest province in the world. After Ermor, and, surprisingly, mostly Pythium, intervention, most of Ulm peasants fled, a few to the Mictlan provinces, and a lot into Jotunheim lands, to seek life under a less cruel master.
Ulm is now an Ermorian province.
