Don Deity: Warlords 2.08, huge random continents map, epic speed

Luckily don deity seems to already have railroad... Machine gunners are at least a capable defensive counter to the infantry... as for offense, if you have enough cannons/artillery then your promoted cavalry should be able to do the job.

Lovely! I haven't read for a month or two so I can read more than one section at once.

Good work!

read this all today, grpiing stuff, cant wait to see how this war turns out.

remember that Germany is still under pressure aswell, maybe some reinforcements to stiffen there resolve would help?

This is all turning out rather exciting!

You turned on Persia and the rest of the world hates you know because of it. Moreover they got infantry and you'll probably get squashed! Atleast you can build 'Broadway' now!

I remember a long long time ago in a galaxy far away, I fought the French who also got infantry. I like you only had cavalry and machine gunners, (didn't even got artillery just goold ol' cannons) I survived by fighting a defensive war. I put my machinegunners to defend the cities and the cannons to weaken the enemy infantry. And then use my cavalry to take out as much of the enemy cannons as posssible. Then I got infantry myself and the tables turned. In the end I got obliterated by Montezuma, but that's a different story.

@ everybody:

Thanks everybody for your support and advice:goodjob:

Since I´m apparently back from my holiday, I might find the time to play out the USoF-Persian war this weekend. I will give you a short summary beforehand when I find time to let you know how I plan to cope with the situation at hand... ...and to put the blame completely on General Supersnaat, if it things should turn out bad:lol:

Ummm, you're not sure if you're back from your holiday? Here's a tip: if the boss calls and asks why you're not at work, that means your holiday is over. :) Hope you had a happy.

Aw man, I thought you'd have finished the game by now, this means I have to wait for the end :(. Serves me right for laughing at the people who had to wait for updates :crazyeye:.

Great games and stories, anyway, been reading them for a week or so, it's amazing to see you take on Deity AIs with such force when I rarely win above Prince...

Well, took me longer then expected to play out the war with Cyrus:D

But now it´s played and I have already (almost) finished the writeup of the first part of it... ...sadly, things didn´t go as smooth as in the previous wars (what was sort of expected thanks to the persian infs) and DD was forced to accept peace after successfully having his whole army slaughtered by General Supersnaat and the annoying fact that Cyrus was starting a mayor countersrike ASAP once he also had artis:mad:... ...which, off course happened WAY to soon

After reading through your story playing as the Persians, I've read through every page of this story and can't wait for more. Add 1 to your loyal reader base. ;)

I took a gander at the mini-map, and got to pondering some ideas for your foreign relations. Can Korea be made to favor you, as in becoming a stepping stone for future conquests of those other continents after the Persian war is over? They look very small, have the lowest score, and if I remember correctly haven't had trouble with you diplomatically (other than joining 'MATO'.)

I've only played Civ4 vanilla (which currently doesn't work due to fatal scratches on the discs :(,) but can a nation you haven't gone to war with accept your offer to become a vassal? If so, making Korea a vassal, gifting them some military tech, maybe gifting them a city or two in Persia and a lump of gold would give you another formidable ally for the future. Also, what plans do you have for your current vassals against the Persians? If I were you, I'd tell them to target Persian's west coast, or at least give Bismarck some breathing room in northern Germany.

War with Persia, Part 2: Operation “Chaos”:

…

Well, the war against Persia turned more and more from an organized operation into a complete chaos… …troops were running around more or less aimlessly, the USoF headquarter in Susa was under constant siege. General Supersaat was in panic. The only way he deemed possible to survive this deathtrap was to send more of his troops towards Bactra, to relieve the Persian culture pressure from the south-west on Susa and to try to take control at least of the southmost end of Persia by controlling (and securing) the cities of Susa and Bactra. But the advance on Bactra wasn’t proceeding very well, due to numerous Persian ambushes and therefore high USoF losses. Only the new weapons the USoF had shipped in recently, called machine-guns seemed to provide at least a little defence against the Persian infantry. Still, quite some USoF soldiers lost their lives on the way towards Bacta and in the end, about half of General Supersnaat´s army had to be redirected towards Bactra to give them at least a decent chance to take this important costal Persian city…

While laying siege on Bactra, another Persian advance killed some more USoF battalions and krippled the advance again… …and General Supersaat had to sent some more soldiers there, quickly ordering more reinforcements from France. But due to the outdated infrastructure in USoF-Germany (and all over Germany btw), it would take them at least 7 days (=turns) to arrive in Susa, including the shipping. So the big question was what to do now… …go on with the war against Persia or retreat (only good was, that 2 or 3 USoF cities have been producing troops all the time and additionally there were still numerous battalions stationed as border patrols in the cities between ancient England and the newer provinces, to protect the innocent inhabitants there from harm (=shoot heaps of them in case of a revolt), so the USoF army had quite some reserves left.

…

Here you can see, what was left of the first USoF army group advancing on Batra and an overview over the situation near the front:

104.JPG

The USoF army was trying desperately to reinforce the troops laying siege on Bactra, while Persian infantry was executing ambush after ambush with a horrible precision. Even some Celt troops were shipped now to the front, to assist the USoF army in their holy quest (the were given the honorable taks of cannon fodder…). You also can see some machine-gunners fortified in the desert east of Susa, who were ordered to supervise the reinforcements coming in from USoF-Germany, after the horrible incident that happened to the 101-105 battalion of USoF redcoats… …running strait into a desert trap there and getting slain by Persian infantry… …all in all, the operation “desert breeze” originally planned as a short and easy war against an unprepared enemy was turning more and more into a big bloodbath, with almost 20 battalions of brave USoF soldiers already that never would leave the desert around Susa again. And since the Persian losses were about the same, dead bodies were piling all over the desert… …thanks only to the wind and the sand that they didn’t show up that often…

…

But then, more frightening news were pouring in:

105.JPG

Despite the heavy fighting going on around Susa, Cyrus still seemed to be able to fight on two fronts… …the ruins on the picture was all that was left of Bremen, the most important German city up in the north… …the only hope that General Supersnaat and Don Deity had was that the city was only in revolt and NOT burned down completely to the ground… …and now it became quite obvious that Germany wouldn’t be able to hold their ground up there against Persia, despite the USoF providing them with the latest technology... …since the latest USoF technology was pretty outdated compared to the Persian infantry…

It was pretty clear, that the battle would be going uphill from now on… …only good was that Cyrus didn’t have artillery at that point, leaving still a small chance to the USoF army.

106.JPG

France tried to provide the new USoF provinces in Germany with everything they might need, most of the time shipping units, but once in a while even civilians (workers), to help to build up some infrastructure (right now, what was needed most was a railroad connection from Stuttgart to Susa, but this railroad line would not only take a while to be built, it would also have to go through the desert east of Susa, and this area was still not completely under USoF control, as the incident with the battalions 101 -105 recently clearly showed…).

…

One of the few good things in these dark times was that despite loosing more and more ground in north Germany, Bismarck kept to his promise and helped in controlling the channel with the frigates he had left (his navy was still double size then the USoF navy altogether, consisting only of 4 gallons and one frigate), providing the USoF gallons with a secured passage from Knossos to Stuttgart. This assistance was vital to keep the reinforcement lines towards Susa open, which again was vital for the survival of General Supersaat himself, so General Supersnaat could only hope that Bismarck would stick to HIS promise, although Don Deity still refused to send any help towards north Germany (what he had actually promised to do in exchange…)

I'm curious, will General Supersnaat ever lay siege to the Persian capitol?

Good job, it's a very nice read and game!

This is not going to have a happy ending. How do I know? You've already told us. You can't bring Supersnaat home because you have neither the transports nor the wish to fight Persia in France. Supersnaat is destined to be added to Don's collection of statues.

Meanwhile back home a bit of a military build up is, I suspect, in full swing as you try to research the modern war techs you're going to need to finish of Cyrus. Who knows, your vassals may even share their techs with England. Germans and their panzers.

The Persian cities that are retained in peace will become a site for drafting and whipping.

War with Persia, Part 3: Operation “Suicide mission deluxe”:

...

Don Deity was running around in his palace in London like a madman, infuriated by his ever rising rage… …but at the same time, he turning it into a sculptor’s paradise, with beautiful statues all over the place. Just when the head servant cautiously tried to approach Don Deity with more bad news (most of the remaining staff had fled from the palace recently) Don Deity disappeared into thin air.

About the same time, in Susa, the USoF commando tent:

“What??? That cant be… …how can this ZENSORED idiot refuse to talk to me?”

“Um… …I don’t know General Supersnaat, but all of your requests for an audience with Cyrus have been turned down so far… …you really want to send another messenger…”

“Yes… …I will send messengers, until they run out of silver plates… …then Cyrus has to rethink his strategy…”

ZUUMMMPPPP

“What are you babbling about “silver plates", General Supersnaat… …we have more important matters to discuss…”

“Oh, hey Don Deity… …well… …actually we have a problem… …Cyrus refuses to talk to us… …but I have a plan…”

“With “silver plates”???”

“Umh… …actually yes… …look, Cyrus kills all our messengers and has their heads sent back to us on a silver plate… …so I actually thought that…”

“AARRRGH… …You ZENSORED idiot, how can you ZENSORED ZENSORED be actually stupid enough to believe this ZENSORED ZENSORED and even dare to call this ZENSORED crap a plan???”

“Well… …umh… …ahem… …do you have a better plan?”

“Hm… …I would… …we could… … ZENSORED… …OK, you win… …show me your records concerning the overall Persian stock of silver plates and give me an insight about the schedule you have come up with for sending out our next wave of messengers…”

…

With the Persian Leader (the Persian Leader... ...that sounds strangely familiar...) still refusing to speak to Don Deity, and General Supersnaat´s glorious strategy based mainly on silver plates, most of the USoF soldiers preferred to volunteer for the suicide mission towards Bactra, because it was in general considered saver among the USoF army to face Persian infanry then to stick around Don Deity and General Supersnaat… …even the diplomats and the medic corps volunteered as cannon fodder near Bacta, because most of them didn’t really like the Silver Plate plan the USoF leaders had come up with and tried to avoid being assigned to the next wave of USoF messengers by all means…

…which, on the other side, turned out to be very effective in breaking the Persian resistance in Bactra with sheer numbers and the strength of will within the USoF ranks… …and after the smoke had set and Bactra finally was under USoF command, even the Persian civilians in Bactra had to admit that they were truly impressed with the courage the USoF troops threw themselves into the deadly fire of the Persian defenders... …some USoF soldiers even seemed to be happy to be that close to the front, willing to sacrifice their lives for a greater cause… …and thus crumbled the support from the Persian people for their own leader and army more and more. And, after weeks of fighting (well... ...mainly dying actually) in the dusty outskirts of Bactra, the Persian army finally had to retreat through the hills of Bactra towards Ecbatana, another heavily defended Persian harbour city, already pretty close to central Persia… …but again the USoF army was more then eager to pursue them, no matter how hostile the terrain was and how many of their own would die.

And so it came, that the Persian defenders in Ecbatana, although almost equal in numbers to the USoF troops, again decided to retreat, only trying to block the USoF reinforcement lines and to prevent the USoF army from advancing deeper into the Persian mainland.

107.JPG

Although this seemed to be a major success for the USoF army, the price had been incredible high… …the USoF losses had been giganormous… …all USoF mobile task forces had been lost and the main host of the the USoF army got reduced to what you can see in the picture above… … 4 battalions of artillery, 5 battalions of cavalry, 1 battalion of MGs and 1 battalion of redcoats. The new plan was now, to hold Ecbatana with all that was left of the USoF army, but Cyrus seemed to have other plans… …he ordered 2 battalions of infantry to block the passage through the hills of Bactra, to cut Ecbatana completely off from any USoF reinforcements…

…

The USoF commando tent in Susa, Don Deity and General Supersnaat:

“I know, Don Deity, but we have to do something…”

“But I don’t know if ordering the remaining defenders here to march into Persian mainland also is such a good plan…”

“If we don’t manage to establish a passage around the Bactra mountains, we might loose everything… …not only our remaining army in Ecbatana, but also the control over South-Persia…”

“So please explain your plan to me once again then.”

“OK… …we keep the “Silver Plate” campaign running, but in parallel we will order all remaining troops from Susa to advance towards the city of Arbela, guarding not only the North-Eastern passage around the Mountains of Bactra but also the passage along the Susa River into the Persian mainland…”

“But how do we hold Susa then?”

“We will leave behind 2 battalions of MGs. This and the fact, that Cyrus will very likely focus on defending Arbela should keep us relatively save here…”

“And you really think we can take Arbela?”

“Yes, I’m pretty optimistic that we could capture Arbela… …but…”

“What BUT???”

“Well… …the main problem wont be capturing Arbela… …our artillery has proven to be pretty successful in taking cities, even when they are defended by infantry… …but holding Arbela could be a different story…”

“Even when risking to repeat myself… …why for heavens sake are we attacking Arbela then, when we know right from the start that we very likely not only would loose the remaining sad bit of our army, but also wont be able to hold the city in the long run???”

“Well… …it is a gamble… …but remember that our scientists claim, that they would be able to discover the secret of infantry units soon… …and backed with our “Silver Plate” operation, the plan behind this is, to finally force Cyrus to negotiate a peace deal with us… …and, when faced with the fact that, after capturing Arbela, our army threatens the Persian mainland from two sides and we have also some infantry units among our army, Cyrus might give in and finally start to talk to us…”

“But even if our scientists discover the secret of infantry it in time, we don’t have the money and the time to equip enough of our soldiers with the new weaponry…”

“Yes, I know… …but Cyrus doesn’t… …you see?”
