War with Persia, Part 3: The Arbela incident
…
What was planned to be a bloody disaster turned out to be… …well… …a bloody disaster. The advance on Arbela started as planned, but already after a march of two days (two turns), General Supersnaat was facing heavy resistance… …and, to make things even worse, Cyrus somehow has managed to copy the patent to make artillery and the losses for the USoF army were very high, extremely high.
But finally, after another two days (two turns) of bombarding Arbela day and night, there came good news form France… …the concept of infantry was finally known to the USoF scientists and new weapons were delivered to the frontline near Arbela immediately. And, with some elite soldiers equipped with the new weaponry, General Suersnaat deemed the chances high enough to storm the city… …and, surprise, surprise again the losses were giganormous…
Still, the operation Arbela was considered a great success by the USoF high command (=General Supersnaat and Don Deity), because human losses and sacrifices were things that didn’t really concern them… …Don Deity being and immortal deity and General Supersaat being… …well… …an ignorant and cruel idiot…
But then, it turned out that Cyrus had his own plans… …Arbela was another Persian trap… …and with the newly acquired concept of building artillery (I didn’t pay enough attention here I must confess) Cyrus once again had lured General Supersnaat into a death-trap, catching most of the USoF soldiers wounded and unprepared after the battle for Arbela, killing more then 10 USoF battalions in his initial counter-strike. Although the USoF army was finally able to repel the Persian attacks, their hopes went down drastically, when two new Persian armies were sighted, one containing 5 battalions of infantry, 1 battalion of artillery and 3 battalions of cavalry, the other (not visble in this screen, but stationed 77 form Arbela, hidden behind the hill with the windmill) contained 9 battalions of artillery and 3 battalions of infantry… …although Don Deity deemed this to be the last reserves Cyrus had, quickly upgraded and sent in directly from Persepolis, the Persian capital, there was no way the USoF army could withstand this Persian assault with the 11 remaining USoF battalions near Arbela…
Ant to make things worse, not even with all the reinforcements and border-patrol troops stationed still in France was there a chance that the USoF army could cope with these excessive losses, even IF Don Deity would be able to ship them to the front in time (which, in fact he couldn’t…

, it became more and more obvious that the USoF army would be extinguished soon, only a tiny notch away from victory… …what a shame… …first time in history ever that the glorious USoF army was forced to retreat by an enemy… …a concept so far completely unknown to Don Deity…
But having another look at the information the USoF secret service had gathered around Arbela didn’t help… …Don Deity had to face the hard facts… …Cyrus was about to turn the tide in this war, only a peace treaty would save the small band that was left of the USoF army near Central Persia (not that Don Deity really cared about the men, but he liked his army in general, because a big army simply meant big power… …and that he liked big times):
The hidden Persian army is marked with the red cross…
…
And so another USoF messenger was sent towards Persepolis, in the hopes that at least the plan, to force Cyrus into negotiations had worked, at the cost of the USoF army… …and it DID, Cyrus was finally willing to grant Don Deity an audience, apparently completely unaware about the sorry state the USoF army was in:
To Don Deity´s big surprise, Cyrus not only was willing to pay 500 gold immediately and another 13 gold each month for a year (=ten turns), he even was willing to hand over all his maps and the command of the city of Bremen… …which meant that Cyrus really hadn’t burned it down… …although now it would have been better for him if he would have…
It was pretty obvious that Don Deity couldn’t refuse this offer… …and, despite his agreement with Germany, he spontaneously decided to keep the city of Bremen, just for a while off course, to make sure it was save from all evil Persian influence…
…
